Evie sighed as she kicked back at her desk. It had been a long day and she was getting a head ache from all the writing she'd been doing. Her hand was hurting and she needed a break from her quill. She didn't have anything important to report right now and that irriated her. It was worse because on days like this she was stuck doing boring stories on whatever her boss told her to do at the time. Today she was working on a story about Centaurs.
"Is it time to go home yet?" She muttered to herself as she looked at her muggle watch. It was one of the few things that actually worked in the office. She still didn't like how her every day muggle items didn't work around magic. She was however grateful for her wand. It helped with the simple things.

Bree was not in a good mood, although this was not unusual for her. She had already lost out on a story that she'd wanted to cover, because it had been assigned to Paige Owen instead. Then she'd been stuck with some ridiculous puff piece about Hogwarts' stupid summer camp and how it was supposed to build connections and increase inter-house relations or some such nauseating nonsense. It was enough to make Bree want to vomit on her Italian leather pumps.
Unlike Evian, Bree was not actually writing any of it herself. She'd enchanted a quill, which was even now, scrawling out the words to the article while Bree busied herself by filing her nails.
"I guess all this house unity is a nice idea and all," said Brenda Blair, a lovely blonde graduate of Slytherin house, "but if you ask me, it'll never work. They spend so much time during the year emphasizing the difference in each house, and then they expect us to just mix with other houses? Some people just can't forget, you know?"
Bree peered over at the quill to check the article's progress. It seemed to be coming along nicely. With any luck, she'd be out of here early.
At the sound of Evian's voice, Bree glanced up, rolling her eyes at the other girl. She couldn't actually hear with she'd said, but it didn't matter. Bree was already annoyed. "Does it help you write faster if you talk to yourself?" she said.

Gabe was just trying his best not to fall asleep at his desk as he sat editing his article on the Ministry's "Employee of the Month" which happend to be, this month, the 90 year old witch who sold coffee every morning since she was 18. Whoop-de-do. Gabe just wished he could get a real story. How was he supposed to make a name for himself when he couldn't even be granted an eighth of a page in the paper. All he got were little blurbs that he was barely even acredited to anyway.
He looked up as Breanna snapped at Evian and dropped his head to his desk. "Leave he alone Bree," Gabe said. "She's hardly making a noise."

Evian and Bree didn't get along. Evian had tried being friendly to her coworker but the two usually clashed and couldn't have a conversation without it turning nasty. Today was no different. When she heard Bree throw a snide comment her way, she rolled her eyes. What a surprise, the little princess couldn't keep her thoughts to herself. She was about to respond when Gabe spoke up, trying to resolve the conflict before it started. She didn't blame him. Thanks to the three seated so close to each other, he was stuck listening to their constant bickering.
"Oh it's fine Gabe. She's just in a sour mood because I actually have something interesting to be writing about while she's stuck with her interviews from Hogwarts. It's sad really." She said, not even turning from her desk.

He didn't feel like adding fuel to the fire by saying that ONLY Evian had good stories right now, and that his was crap too. But he sighed and sunk down in his chair a bit, trying to focus on writing as much as he could. Knowing these two, that little remark would rile them both up and Gabe would be in the middle of trying to calm them both down with enough time that they finished their deadlines.

Bree rolled her eyes. "Yeah, right, like your story's that great," she mumbled bitterly. "Everyone knows all the good stories go to Paige. I don't know who made her the Golden Girl around here, but I'm getting sick of it. Other people work here, too, and we should all get a chance at the good stories."
As much as Bree disliked Evian, she was even more resentful of Paige. She wasn't even that great... but she seemed to have sources that no one else had. Or maybe just amazing luck. Bree wasn't sure, but she couldn't help but think that the woman had an unfair advantage.

Evian frowned at that. She didn't have a problem with Paige, personally. They weren't "friends" exactly, but she wasn't the worst person to work with. Despite that, Bree was unfortunately right. Paige got all the good stories and Evian was envious of her sources. She was lucky that she had Marcus to give her some leads but she could only do so much before he caught on. And it wasn't like she could go around the office bragging about her success.
"I can't believe I'm about to say this but I have to agree with you. She gets front page, everytime." Evian shook her head as she thought about it. She would kill to have the stories Paige got.

"I'd like to point out that at least you two HAVE stories," as he sat there writing, he became more and more sure that this fluff piece wouldn't even make it into the next issue of the paper. It would be put on the back burner and used to fill space if they ever needed it.
Gabe had never met Paige, but he was well aware of her success on the paper, having read plenty of her articles before he got his job here. "How does she get them? I wouldn't mind a piece of the front page pie, you know?"
