(I just want to close out this part of the story and take care of a few little details. It doesn't need to be a long thread, and either one or both of you can post. I may send in Angelique at some point as well.)
After he had finished talking with Kryshna, Rutger went back to check on Alana, finding that she was sleeping somewhat peacefully. He knew he should now keep his promise to her and go back to the hotel to get some sleep, but instead he went back to the receptionist and found out which room Daniel Leviner was in. He was apparently recovering well after the vampire bite and was expected to be released the next evening.
Relieved to hear that Daniel was all right, Rutger made his way to the room he was in and tapped lightly on the door before stepping inside. "Hello?"

Sean had been dozing lightly in the chair next to Daniel's bed. He had too much to do, and only meant to visit with his brother for a while before heading home. No, correction, before heading back to the office. A couple of days had gone by where he was sleeping well, but he felt guilty for that. This only lasted until he found Danica, he swore to himself.
His sleep was light enough that he woke up most times anyone even walked by the room, so when Rutger stepped in and knocked on the door, his eyes opened instantly, not even needing to focus or search his surroundings. He glanced at the Auror and sat up straighter, nodding a greeting. "Come in," he said, turning to see if Dan was awake or not.

Rutger walked into the room the rest of the way, his posture stiff and awkward. It was as though he was trying to will himself to keep moving, keep awake, keep from breaking down. "I apologize if I woke you," he said awkwardly, glancing over at Daniel for a moment to see that he was still sleeping. "I just came to see how you and your brother were faring. I would have come sooner, but Alana..."
He trailed off, not quite wanting to admit that he hadn't wanted to leave Alana while she was in such pain. He was sure Sean could infer that, anyway... he just didn't want to say it.
"I am sorry your brother was hurt. It should have been me."

Dan was asleep, and Sean had no intention of waking him. The sleep alone would probably heal him faster than anything else, given his unique affliction. His eyes, once assured that Dan wasn't jumping up to make any kind of greeting, moved back to Rutger, and he waved off both apologies.
"I've been awake off and on. And don't worry about it... Daniel's fine. Ideally, no one would have been hurt." His eyes remained on the older Auror for a moment. He had more tact than his brother, so he refrained from telling him that he looked like dragon's dung. They all probably did, to be fair, but it seemed like Rutger was the one going more non-stop than anyone else. And he was correct about what the blonde Leviner could infer.
Tilting his head ever so slightly, he motion to the other empty chair. "How is she? Alana, I mean." He felt the need to amend his question in case Rutger thought he meant the vampire.

Rutger sank into the offered chair, and found himself wondering whether he'd be able to get back up again. he was pushing himself too much, he knew it, but he didn't know how to stop. "She's still got a bit of a rough time ahead of her, but she'll recover," he replied, sighing. "She was actually very lucky. Only a very small amount of the poison entered her bloodstream and we had a sample of the antidote from when I was attacked several months ago."
He rubbed his head tiredly, trying to remember what else he had wanted to talk to the boys about. He was still feeling a bit scattered from his talk with Kryshna, and he was having trouble focusing. "I wanted to... thank you," he said at last, meeting Sean's eyes just briefly. "You didn't have to tell me about your... gift. I imagine it wasn't easy to know if you could trust me. But because of you, two people are alive tonight who probably would have been killed, and Kryshna is in custody. She can't hurt anyone else. So I wanted you to know... this the last time I will ever speak of it. Your secret is safe with me."

Sean nodded. "She sounds lucky. And fortunate to have you." The end of this sentence lifted in what could have been considered a question, but Sean was definitely implying something here. Not romance, exactly, just that the two Aurors seemed to care a lot for each other, and that had a lot to do with luck, he figured. Well, he was sure of it. If it weren't for Daniel, he was sure he'd have been killed by now. And he knew Daniel would have been.
His eyes had unfocused, looking towards the floor, or the window, or whatever was an easy eyeline for him. But when Rutger continued, Sean wasn't quiet expected it, and he focused again on the older man. His first thought was just that he was thanking them for the help, but he was quickly proven wrong. He remained quiet for some time, unsure of how to respond for a moment. The truth was, when he'd come clean to Rutger, he had been too tired to tell himself it was a bad idea. But it worked out. Maybe there was a lesson in that- he needed to trust his instincts more than whatever visions came to his head. If that was the case, it was going to be a lesson slowly learned.
He took a deep breath and released it as a sigh. "We all had a part to play in this, so I won't take the credit for how well this turned out, considering. But it just... well, it seemed like the right thing to do."

"She sounds lucky. And fortunate to have you."
Those words pierced through Rutger's armor, and he felt a shiver run through him. He looked up at Sean, and for a split second, he felt as if Sean could see right through him. The thought made him uncomfortable, and he quickly looked away.
Whether Sean meant romantically or not, it reminded Rutger of the words Alana had said to him earlier, when she thought she was dying. He didn't know if Sean had witnessed that, although others had been present at the time. He'd been too caught up in Alana to even notice anyone else. And when she'd told him that she loved him... It was like the first crocus peeking out through the frozen soil--the first sign of life when all around it seemed frozen over. Later, she had tried to tell him to forget about it, so he wouldn't be uncomfortable, but he couldn't forget it. He didn't even want to.
But things were so confusing and unsettled and he wished she wasn't lying in a hospital bed, suffering in pain, so he could figure out just what was supposed to happen next. No, she didn't have him, not yet... and he wasn't sure that she would really be all that fortunate if she did. Really, he was the lucky one. When she had been assigned to be his partner, although it hadn't seemed it at the time, it had turned out to be the best thing that had ever happened to him. He surely would have dropped dead by now--or been killed by Kryshna--without Alana to take care of him. One day he'd have to tell her that.
After a very long silence, Rutger looked up at Sean again. He didn't even bother to deny Sean's statement. He wasn't sure it wasn't accurate. He also, true to his word, chose not to address Sean's "contribution" further. He'd said all he wanted to say on the subject. Instead, he turned back to easier subjects--business.
"We need to find a place to keep the creature," he said. "She can't go to Azkaban--" he shuddered involuntarily as he mentioned the place-- "But she obviously can't stay here. Do you have any other options... somewhere we can keep her while I interrogate her? Maybe even keep her there long-term?"

Sean was grateful for the change of subject, and his posture relaxed in that chair by Dan's bed. Bloody arse that he was, Dan was still sound asleep, despite Sean and Rutger not bothering to whisper for his sake.
"The Ministry has a few cells in the lower levels. The MLE uses them fairly often for suspects and small time offenders- people who aren't condemned to Azkaban. I'm not sure they're secure enough for her, though. And I know that everyone here will breathe easier when she's gone, so the sooner we get her out of here, the better. I wouldn't keep her at the Ministry long term- it's a temporary solution, at best. I wonder.... The Department of Control of Magical Creatures might have something serviceable . I can talk to one of the girls over there in the morning."

This was good news, as far as Rutger was concerned. The Ministry was a more appropriate place to keep Kryshna than the hospital, and they could surely find a way to make the cells more secure, at least for the short term. He'd worry about the long term later, after he had finished interrogating her. Although he'd already questioned her once, he was sure there was a great deal more information to be learned from her, so the interrogations could take a while.
"That sounds good," he said. "Look into that for me... I can talk to Miss St. Clare as well. I think it's important to get her out of this hospital as soon as possible. I talked to Kryshna earlier... I think she's already developed an odd attachment to one of the healers, and I don't think it's a good idea to allow her to stay so close to him."

That bit of information troubled Sean. Kryshna was dangerous, and he'd been opposed to keeping her at the hospital from the very beginning. His reasoning had been, first, the doctors who saw to her. The funny thing about heroes was that no one asked to be one... they just happened. And everyone who'd been in that room to save Kryshna's life for the sake of an interrogation at a later date, with the hopes of saving lives even further in the future.... they were heroes in Sean's book.
Then, it became a matter of what if she escapes? He saw more than anyone knew about what she was capable of, and if she broke loose and attacked the hospital, he couldn't live with himself, plain and simple.
It never occurred to him, however, that something much more human might happen, like a connection between her and a doctor. That was almost more dangerous. "Whatever happens, I would really like her out of her no later than tomorrow evening. I'll let you know what the department says."

It was definitely something Rutger hadn't expected, either. If, as she had claimed, she was like him, a sudden bond with a near stranger was simply out of the question. It made him suspicious. Alana probably would have accused him of seeing conspiracies everywhere, but it wasn't in Rutger's nature to trust so easily.
"I agree. We need her out of here as soon as possible," Rutger said, nodding. "Thank you for your help. Oh... and when you go in to the office, could you have someone run a full background check on Kieran Dawn? You don't have to do it yourself... You can ask the new girl to do it, if you want. I just want to make sure he's not a potential threat."
