(I wanted to get the sparring match under way...)
It had been a week since the attack inside Hogwarts. Daniel had long since been released from the hospital, but due to the nature of his injury, he had been on a forced "leave" for the rest of the week, until he had recovered from his sensitivity to sunlight. As a result, Victoria had not seen him since she kissed him in his hospital room.
That kiss was on her mind almost constantly. She missed him and their banter, but she couldn't very well visit him at his house. She found herself silently cursing Felicia for forcing Daniel to take the rest of the week off, even though she was fairly certain that he was still working in some capacity with his brother. She did see Sean on occasion in the office, and it was all she could do not to go up to him and ask how Daniel was doing. But she caught his eye once or twice and he silently answered her questioning gaze with a silent nod. It was all she needed to know, and she continued to wait.
When he finally returned to work, she immediately reminded him of their planned sparring match. It was then fixed for the next day, which was Saturday.
On the Saturday of the match, Victoria arrived early at the gym for a bit of last minute training. She was just cooling down after a vigorous workout when she heard a familiar voice speaking her name.

Naturally Daniel did not want to be on "leave" but he was forces. That of course didn't stop him from helping Sean. He just didn't go to the office. Now it was time for his and Victoria's sparring match. He was goIng to let her win, but she didn't know that. The kiss had been on his mind and Sean had called him out for spacing out a few times. Daniel didn't really know what he was getting himself into. He liked her, yes. Did she like him? Signs pointed to yes, but Daniel wasn't quite sure how he was going to go about the whole situation.
Entering the gym, he grinned. He could see her blond hair immediately. "Well hello there sweetheart," he called out walking up to her. "Been working out already? Don't you think you're going to be tired already?" He gave her is usual smirk.

Victoria quickly used her towel to mop a bit of sweat from her forehead. Otherwise, her expression was perfectly cool and she hoped he couldn't tell that her heart rate sped up more at the sight of him than it had during the workout. Finishing her stretch, she got to her feet, letting him know that she wasn't the least bit tired.
"Oh, I'm just getting warmed up," she assured him. "Maybe you should get warmed up, too... I wouldn't want to beat you too quickly."

"Oh, I'm warmed up enough already." Today was going to be highly interesting, at least from Daniel's perspective. He would be lying if the kiss hadn't reentered his mind the moment he saw her. She was proving to be a weakness to Daniel. At first he thought that he shouldn't find any weaknesses, but he knew that Sean was his biggest weakness. He would go crazy if anything ever happened to him. Now, Daniel was feeling some sort of attachment to Victoria.
"I'm glad you warmed up. I wouldn't want to beat you too quickly." He winked at her. "You look nice by the way. The sweaty look looks good on you." Daniel hid a laugh. "Ready to start this?"

Victoria straightened up, stretching her arms out in front of her in one last cool-down exercise, then quickly mopped the sweat from her face and back of her neck with her towel.
She was dressed in a tight, white leotard topped with a pair of baggy yoga pants, and her blonde hair was pulled back from her face in a long braid. "OK, Mr. Impatient-to-Lose. Hold on just a minute," she replied.
Her bag was nearby, and she walked over to it, stashing her wand inside it and pulling out a fresh towel and a small box. Inside the box were bobby pins, and she took out a handful, wrapping her braid into a tight bun and securing it tightly on her head. "Don't want to be accused of using my hair as a weapon," she added with a grin.
Once she was ready, she pulled a bottle of water from her bag and closed it up. "All right, let's go downstairs. There's a boxing ring down there, and I reserved it for about half an hour."

"I like your hair up," Daniel remarked with a grin. "With that white thing you have on and your hair up like that, you remind me of a dancer." He actually meant that as a compliment, but the tone of voice he used ended up being a little more flirty with a hint of sarcasm.
"For half an hour? You think it's gonna take me that long to beat you?" He let out a chuckle. "It might take you that long to get over the fact of what will happen." Daniel winked at her and then followed her downstairs. "I might even go easy on you at first. After all, I don't want you to think that you don't have a complete chance of defeating me."
He grinned as he took a drink from his water bottle, then stepped into the ring. "Are you sure you're ready for this?"

Victoria blushed at the compliment. When she was younger, she had always believed that her hair was her best feature--long and thick and shiny. In school she almost never wore it pulled back or up, and she had spent a lot of time trying to make sure it had just the right amount of wave to it. But now that she was older, she was more confident in her other qualities, not just the physical ones. In fact, it was that very confidence that made her most attractive.
"No, I don't think it will take that long," she replied, still smiling. "But I figured that after I beat you, you might need a little extra time to clean yourself up and regain your dignity."
She paused to take a drink of her own water bottle, watching him as she did. Was it terrible that she didn't actually want to fight him at all? She was already thinking about their dinner date... and what she hoped would happen afterwards.
"Oh, I'm ready," she replied, putting the lid back on her water bottle and wiping off her forehead one last time. She stepped into the ring, on the opposite corner from him. "Let's go."

There was the infamous grin on Daniel's face as she stepped in the opposite corner. He knew exactly how today was going to play out. He finally figured it all out. Today was going to be interesting and he had an idea of where things were going to go. For the longest time he debated with himself about a few things but he was able to finally push them out of his head before he left his apartment this morning.
"Come on sweetheart, let's see how good you are." He gave her a wink and then started to move in her direction.

Victoria was determined not to look at his face. If she did, she would surely start blushing or laughing. This little sparring match was beginning to feel a bit like an elaborate mating ritual, and even she had a feeling of how it was going to end. For all their talk, they both knew it almost didn't really matter who won. It wasn't even the point anymore.
"All right, on the count of three, we'll start," she said, brushing off her hands and adjusting the strap of her sports bra. She looked over at him them, quickly scanning his face before looking away. This was going to be interesting...
(I should say so! I have no idea how to write a sparring match...)

(I don't either... haha)
The look on her face told him she was determined. Daniel liked to think that he could read Victoria well after working with her for a little while. For a moment he wondered why she wouldn't really look at him. She did for a moment then looked away, but he grinned and winked at her just before her gaze turned away.
Daniel counted to three aloud and then he took a few steps toward her. With a few quick moments, he went for her to pin her to the mat.

That wicked grin of his was almost enough to turn her legs to jelly, and the wink was even worse. If she lost this match, it would be because she looked at him too long and his smile caused her to melt into the mat. And that was just such a girly excuse that she couldn't allow herself to fall victim to it. No, she wanted to stay strong and prove that she could fight her attraction to him for just a little while longer. But, oh, how she was already imagining what might happen later...
But she had to focus. On the count of three, they moved to the center of the ring and he made a swift move as if to try and pin her. She ducked out of the way and swung around so that she was behind him. She then moved to try and grab him around the waist.

Daniel had an idea what he did to Victoria. He was fairly observant. This whole idea of a sparring match was still highly amusing. He had never had a sparring match and he never really fought a female other than one assignment he had to go on. Although the woman at that time was his target, he still felt bad for fighting with her. This time, however, was completely different. Daniel thought of this sparring match as more of a play fight than anything. Play fighting was something he could do, especially with Victoria.
Once her arms went around his waist, Daniel laughed. "Trying to come at me from behind, are you," he asked with a light teasing in his voice. He spun around in the attempt to bring her down to pin her.

It was at that moment that Victoria realized that this had been a very bad idea. He had turned around so that he was facing her, and she had her arms around him and they were standing so very close... She felt heat rushing through her that had nothing to do with exercise. She could see the laughter in his eyes, feel the rumble of his voice against her, smell his scent. Any moment she was going to kiss him again, and that couldn't happen. She'd kissed him the first time, so now it had to be his turn. But oh, was it tempting...
Victoria took a breath and forced herself to move away from him before he had a chance to pin her (although at the moment, that was sounding like really good idea).
"Can't blame a girl for trying," she said, keeping her voice light and breezy. But inside she was nervous for the first time. She was going to have to try to pin him without touching him--at least not touching more than his hands. Maybe if she tripped him, but that didn't seem fair. Why couldn't she seem to remember any of her moves?

Daniel knew exactly what was going on. He was very aware of Victoria's expression. This sparring match could be a bad idea, but it could also be the best idea that happened. He had to keep up his front. When they were close to each other, he was more aware of things about her, like what her hair smelled like, the color of her eyes, the feel of her skin. He liked being close to her.
He laughed a low laugh. "Especially since you're the girl that has a crush on me." Daniel winked at her. He moved closer to her again. "I mean, I can't blame you. I know I'm hard to resist when it comes to you. You're just playing hard to get, but I can see through that."

"A crush on you?" Victoria said, raising her chin and forcing herself to sound and look more confident than she felt. "You wish. Maybe you're the one with the crush."
She began to circle him slowly, looking for an opening. It would be easier if he would attack first, because most of the training she had received was in self-defense. They didn't often teach women how to attack people, especially men. That seemed like something that should be changed; after all, sometimes the best defense was a good offense.
"And I'm resisting you just fine," she added, swinging low as if to knock him off his feet.

"I think you've figured me out sweetheart, I couldn't deny that." Daniel gave a wink and a smile. Now that wasn't a lie. He did admit he had a crush on her. After all, who wouldn't? It was up to her, however, to take it how she liked.
He was actually wishing the same thing. It would be easier if she attacked first, but not from a defensive stand point. Daniel could make her even more flustered and willing to attack him. That was what he wanted anyway.
"Oh really," Daniel started. He actually wasn't paying attention to her swing, although he would have usually been able to stop her. He was knocked off his feet. "And knocking me off my feet is your plan to resist me," he asked laying on the mat.

She hadn't expected that to work, and she was taken by surprise. As he hit the mat, her first instinct was to rush over to him and make sure he was all right. That was her first clue that this was more than just an empty attraction, and the realization shook her. She stood there, dumbly, for what seemed to her like an eternity. In reality, it was mere seconds, because as soon as Daniel spoke again with his trademark cocky remarks, she snapped out of it.
"Yeah, it is," she replied, again with more bravery than it felt. "After all, you can't sweep me off my feet if you're already on the ground, right? You'd better get up, though, because I'm not finished with you yet."

"You have a point, but there is still that possibility that even if you have already swept me off my feet, I could do it to you." He grinned as he started to get up. "As for you not being finished with me, I would hope you wouldn't be." Daniel did his best to hide his laughter.
He circled her. "Now if we both continue to circle each other and just stare, we're going to get no where." Daniel winked at her and then took a swing at her legs.

"I'll have you know that I intend to keep my feet firmly planted on the ground, thank you very much," Victoria replied, raising her chin defiantly.
Was it terrible that she was getting really turned on by this? The circling, the staring, the banter... it was all very intense... or at least it seemed so to her. She wondered if the windows on the other side of the room were starting to fog up.
He swung out at her legs, and she wasn't expecting it. In her haste to dodge him, her legs somehow became tangled, and she hit the mat.

As Victoria hit the mat, Daniel made a move to pin her. "What was that about your feet being firmly planted on the ground?" He grinned and then moved to where his face was just above her's. It was obvious that the situation was getting intense. The attraction was obvious.
He was glad that no one else was around them at the moment, or at least Daniel didn't think there was anyone else around. It didn't seem like there was anyone else there. For a moment, he looked down at her. Yes, it would be the perfect moment to kiss her, but it was still a little too early for that. The match would more than likely end sooner than expected and Daniel didn't want to just go ahead and end the match. He was having too much fun bantering with her. There wasn't any issues with a little teasing.
Daniel leaned down a little further, almost touching her lips, he made sure that his breath at least touched them. "I know you can't give up that easily," he said in a low whisper.
