- Is easily offended
- When offended, she lashes out

- Not exactly the most "fun" person to hang around with
Personality: On the surface, Viola is prim, proper, and more than a little uptight. She's got the haughty, stuck-up act down pretty well, and it can make it hard to like her. In fact, she doesn't have a lot of friends, and is generally better at alienating people than she is at getting close to them.
But to those select few who know her well (her husband and half-sister), she can be warm and caring. She just doesn't show this vulnerable side very often, because she feels that the only way she can make it in the world is by being cold and hard. And yet, she's never cruel or mean or even openly rude. Her manners are too good for that. No, she's more likely to come out with left-handed compliments or veiled insults that leave the listener wondering just how they're supposed to take it.
She can be bossy and domineering, especially to those who work for her, but to her husband she is sweet and affectionate. She was raised to believe that the man was supposed to be in charge, and she lets Barry believe that he is. When she wants something, she persuades him gently, making him think it's his idea and not hers.
Neatness and organization are obsessions for her; she cannot stand anything out of place. She'll lose sleep over a misplaced vase or a crooked picture frame. Some might say that this comes from her need to control everything around her, and it might even be true. She likes to feel that she's in control.
She is easily offended, however, especially by comments about her looks, her status as a half-blood, or her marriage. She's secretly insecure, and covers it up with her snobbish attitude. But when insulted, her calm demeanor may slip, causing her to lash out in a most improper way. She'll apologize later, and seem all smiles and cordiality, but in reality, she's just struck you off her list. No, she won't forget the offense, and revenge might come when you least expect it.
Family

- Father: Earl Wharton, 55
- Siblings (if any, list names and ages):half-sister: Lorraine, 18
- Other family members (if significant): Stepmother: Jocelyn Wharton, 48

History: Viola was born in Northern England, the daughter of a rich pureblood and a free-spirited muggleborn. They were an unlikely match, to say the least. Earl Wharton had been brought up in a very strict family, most of whom would go on to be death eaters or death eater sympathizers. And he was very much the product of this upbringing: stiff, arrogant, and cold. He was sorted into Slytherin in school, and was chosen as a prefect and later, Head Boy. But while working at the Ministry after graduation, Earl Wharton fell in love with a fiery muggleborn in his department. Freya Emeric had big dreams and aspirations, but she threw all that away when she married Earl Wharton. Suddenly, she was the wife of a pureblood who had been cast out of his family for marrying her. It didn't matter, since Earl had his own income and savings, which were more than enough to keep them in the lifestyle he was accustomed to. He forbid Freya to work, and she spent much of her time at home alone. Even when Viola was born, it became clear that Freya was not happy.
Viola was 5 years old when Freya died of a prolonged illness. Viola was then raised by a nanny for a while, until she was 11 years old. While Viola was starting her first year at Hogwarts, her father remarried to a more appropriate pureblood woman, Jocelyn Montague, who was 7 years younger than he was. Viola's half-sister, Lorraine, was born less than a year later.
Viola's new stepmother was the complete opposite of her mother. While Freya had been free-spirited and passionate, Jocelyn was cold and unemotional. She took absolutely no interest in the little half-blood. Between that and the fact that she'd been raised by the nanny for most of her early life, Viola became hardened and cold, just like her stepmother and father.
Viola met Barry Carter at school. Though both of them were in Slytherin, it took a while for them to notice each other. They started dating in seventh year, and he slowly began to awaken a different side of Viola. She fell in love with him, and he with her. For the first time since her mother's death, Viola knew what it felt like to be loved. Both her father and stepmother encouraged the union, and two years after graduating, the couple married.
Since both Barry and Viola are busy people, it took a while for them to start thinking about children. In fact, there have been times when the two of them didn't even see each other for weeks at a time. Viola felt that he was slipping away from her, so she suggested a romantic get-away... Now she is 4 months pregnant with the couple's first child.
Anything else? It's odd how I do applications. I never do them in the order that they're listed, and I never do them the same way twice. This time I started with the history, because I felt that was crucial to her character.
