Today had been a long day at work. Barry decided that he was going to try to take jobs closer to home and ones that wouldn't take as long as his usual jobs. Now with Viola pregnant, he didn't want to leave her for a long period of time. He could understand where she came from seeing as he was never home and he was glad that they went on their getaway.
They were finally starting a family and Barry honestly was happy. He wanted to take things as they came and part of him wanted to disappear with Viola again for a few days. Naturally, he knew that neither of their jobs would more than likely allow it.
Walking into the house with his briefcase in hand and his hair a bit disheveled, he closed the door behind him. His tie was a little loose and he placed his briefcase in one of the chairs in the parlor.
"Viola," he called out taking off his top layer of robe, leaving him in just dress pants, a button up shirt and his tie. "I'm home."

Viola was home at last, after a long day. She'd spent the day meeting with clients, planning menus for two upcoming events, and distributing the leftovers from the ill-fated wedding of this past weekend. She'd had so much left over that she had divided it up and taken it to three different homeless shelters, and she had packaged some of it to bring to her sister-in-law, as well. Of course Caroline hadn't seemed to appreciate the food, even though Viola had actually selected the best of the leftovers to bring to her. But that was Caroline... ungrateful and bitter. Viola felt really sorry for the woman's unfortunate husband.
Viola came home directly after her visit with Caroline, with a splitting headache. Something about that girl always gave Viola a headache. But then, Viola never liked anyone who argued with her.
She wasn't expecting Barry to come home today, and so she had changed into some more comfortable clothes and was stretched out on the couch, with a hot compress on her forehead and a cup of tea in her hand.
So when she heard the door open, she sat up suddenly, nearly spilling the tea all over her. "Barry?" she said happily when he called out to her. "I wasn't expecting you so soon..."

As he reached the living room area, Barry smiled as he saw Viola sitting on the couch. He loosened his tie even more and pulled it off as he approached the couch she was sitting on. "I figured the boys could finish up the job," he said leaning over the back of the couch and kissing her forehead.
Showing affection toward his wife was something that Barry wished he was better at. Growing up, he never saw his parents show affection to each other, nor did they show affection toward him so he never really learned. Slowly, he was learning and slowly he was getting a little better at it, but he wished he could do things that would sweep his wife off her feet and surprise her all the time.
He moved to sit next to her. "Plus, I wanted to come home and actually enjoy an evening with my wife and see how well she's doing."

If anything could soothe her pounding headache, it was having her husband here with her. She closed her eyes and leaned back against the couch, just enjoying the warmth of his touch.
"I'm so glad you're home," she sighed. All the tension seemed to melt and she began to relax again. He always could bring out the best in her. "I've had a simply horrendous two weeks, and I feel like my head is going to explode. But it's better now that you're here. When do you have to go back?"

"I have a few days to myself that I can use. I did the major things that needed to be done and I told the others that they could finish it. I've been working on the same thing for too long and it's starting to drive me mad," he said with a smile. "But now that I'm home I don't have to worry about that."
Every once in awhile, Barry could spend a few days at a time at home. He tried to enjoy the moments when he could. Putting his arm around Viola's shoulders, he leaned back bringing her with him so she could rest against him.
"Tell me about your past two weeks. Why have they been horrible?"

Viola felt relaxed for the first time in weeks. Merlin, she'd needed him, and she couldn't be more relieved that he was here. Hopefully, he would find a way to be home more often, because it really was difficult being without him so often. As much as she tried to be strong and confident and sure of herself, she sometimes just really needed him to feel like she was alive. He was always the only person she could truly be herself with.
"I lost two clients, had a disastrous wedding where only half of the expected guests showed up, I've had morning sickness, aching joints, and migraines... and I had a horrible confrontation with your ungrateful sister."
