Kylie's eyebrows came together again in a confused like expression. She didn't understand how something so jumbled up could be helpful, but if that was what Dr. Burkhardt wanted and he said it could help, maybe it would.
"Alright then, I'll start one first thing in the morning," she said as the crease in her forehead smoothed out. Kylie was never one to really think dreams meant anything at all, just the brain sorting out thoughts, trying to make sense of the events that happened. However, she saw people in them that she knew she never saw before, not even in passing. Maybe it was a glimpse into the past, but they left as fast as they came and she had no idea.
"I know it's your job Dr. Burkhardt, but thanks for helping. I feel more calm than when I first met you. Don't take any offense or anything, but it's hard for me to trust people no matter how nice or helpful they are, but you've done well so far."

Walter gave her a friendly sort of smile. This was going better than expected. She was already starting to trust him. And once he got this whole situation with her "friend" sorted out, he was fairly confident that she would be his again. Once again, she'd be the good little soldier, as she'd always been.
Yes, it was all coming together.... and soon he'd be able to put his plan into motion.
"See, Kylie?" he said teasingly. "I'm not so bad, after all. I'm really glad you decided to stick with me after you were switched to my care. I really do believe that I can help you."

Part of her was telling her not to trust Dr. Burkhardt at all, but he had been nothing but kind and helpful to her. There was no reason that she should not trust him, or maybe that was exactly why she shouldn't. He really was nice and helpful to her, but what if there was something else? Kylie told her wild imagination to stop. There was no reason for Dr. Burkhardt to do anything to harm her. She didn't even know the man, or so she thought.
She smiled. "Well, I had a decent feeling about you Dr. Burkhardt. You seemed familiar and I felt like I already knew you, which yes I know is fairly strange, but I thought be good. Besides, these visits have been helping so I don't want to stop even though life seems to be balancing out. It's nice to be able to continue to come here and continue to be stable."

Walter smiled at her. The truth was, he really was relieved that she hadn't decided that she didn't need to come to their sessions anymore now that her friend had come back for her. Still, it didn't change the fact that he needed to separate her from this man. In general, all of his other "children" were loners, outcasts... they needed to be that way, because he couldn't have outside influences affecting them. That was why he'd had Zane's wife and child murdered, and he was still considering whether it was worth it to do the same to the man that Colleen was supposedly engaged to. And he'd dispose of Ewan, too, if that was what was necessary.
"Well, I'm glad to hear that, Kylie. I wouldn't want you to give up now, just because things are going well. Things can change without warning... It's good to have extra support, just in case. But tell me, what else is going on? How's the job search going?"

"Exactly. I don't want to just give up on something I know is working so far." Had Kylie known what Walter was planning, she would leave all together, making Ewan go with her.
"The job search," she repeated. "I still haven't found a place I feel comfortable yet. Although, I am looking maybe at a coffee shop somewhere or maybe even a restaurant. The whole clothing store thing does not work for me, so maybe something like that. A restaurant or coffee shop would be a little more comforting I think." For a moment, there was a puzzled expression on Kylie's face. "I just have to go talk to the owners and find out. Is there anything in particular that you would recommend?"

Walter had to suppress a smile. He had wondered whether he could get Kylie to meet some of the others, purely by accident, of course. Colleen worked at the coffee shop, and Joey was a regular there. But she also knew about the coffee shop--the coffee she had brought him was definitely from there. And besides, he had become a regular there already, because he was working on Colleen and watching Joey. If Kylie saw him there, she might get suspicious that he was up to something.
"Well, Joe's coffee shop is nice, but I'm not sure they're hiring," he replied. "There's a little restaurant not far from there, though... an Italian place. Maybe you could be a hostess or waitress or something like that...."

"I might look into that. I thought about Joe's, but I think they might get too overwhelming sometimes with the long lines. I usually tend to avoid it when there are a lot of people in line. Sometimes I think it might be a madhouse early some mornings." Kylie was still trying to get used to a lot of people being around. Sure, she could handle a few and maybe the Italian place would be better. She would only deal with a few people at a time and she could concentrate.
"I'll go look at the Italian place today and ask if they need any help. I might get lucky." She smiled.

Walter did smile this time. He had rather hoped he could get her to consider the Italian place. The reason was that he knew Siobhan was partial to Italian food, especially pizza. And he suspected that Nikola and Siobhan would end up staying closer than intended. Oh, they'd set off planning to leave town, but he hadn't taught Nikola how to apparate, and Siobhan was far too scattered to apparate. Which would mean they would need transportation to get out of town. Nikola wouldn't trust the bus or the Knight Bus, and they didn't have money for a cab. So they would end up traveling on foot. And Siobhan was too fragile to travel long distances on foot... so they would have to hide, and it probably would be close by. So there was a chance, if Kylie worked at the restaurant, that she would run into one of them.
It was convoluted, and the chance was slim, but his "children" did seem to have a way of running into each other accidentally. There was no reason he couldn't help them along a little bit.
"Good idea. I believe it would be good for you to get a job... you'll feel useful again, and you'll interact with more people."

"Yeah, I suppose so. I think it'll be a good place to work." If only it was evident what was really going on. Kylie never really thought twice about only a few people being familiar or that she actually felt comfortable around Walter. It took her several weeks to feel comfortable enough around Dr. Cardenas, but only two sessions to feel more comfortable around this man. It didn't make sense and Kylie didn't want to think about it. She attempted to remember where she saw him before but she started to get a headache when she tried to remember. After the headache, she stopped because she didn't want anything to happen.
"You know Dr. Burkhardt, I feel like we've been more successful in our first couple of times together than Dr. Cardenas and I were successful at first."

Walter actually broke into a genuine smile at this. Of course, his reason for smiling was not the reason she probably would have interpreted it as being, but that hardly mattered. She would never know.
"I'm very glad to hear that, Kylie," he said, his normally mild tone raising slightly to a "brighter" pitch. "I know you were not sure about me in the beginning, and you weren't happy about being switched over. I'm glad that you gave me a chance and that things are working out so well. "

"New people always cause me to be a little off, but there's something about you that I can't put my finger on. Remember how I said that I had been running into a few people that seemed familiar?" Kylie stopped for a moment and studied Walter's face. It bothered her that he seemed familiar. There was no way that she could have known him before. That would have just be crazy for her to have already met him and forgot him.
"I feel like I've known you before now, but that's impossible. Maybe it's just because I've seen you around here multiple times before and I already feel a little comfortable with the fact that you're here. Besides, everyone deserves a chance."

Kylie had always possessed a sort of instinct, some kind of sixth sense that made her so good during training. Walter was not surprised to hear that she felt like she knew him... in fact, a part of him felt strangely pleased by this fact. It had always frustrated him that Siobhan never seemed to have any glimmer of memory. In fact, other than her trigger and the suspicious ways she sometimes reacted to things, she had almost seemed wiped of her training. It wasn't until Nikola had been brought in that Siobhan had shown any subconscious memories of the past.
But Kylie... she was different. She had buried a lot of it--and Merlin only knew how much Dr. Cardenas had done-- but there were hints of it just beneath the surface. He was beginning to get excited at the prospect of poking around in her memories to see just how much she remembered.
"Sometimes people just connect, and there's no rhyme or reason to it," he said simply. "I'm just glad that things are working out so well and that you're feeling so comfortable with me. But tell me, is there anything else you'd like to talk about today?"
