Victoria smirked at him. "Oh, does that mean I get to take a bite out of you when you take me out to dinner after I win our sparring match?" she teased, giving him a little nudge with her elbow.
She was getting cocky again, but she was really convinced that she was going to win. It didn't occur to her that he might let her win... she hoped he wouldn't. She wanted to be able to believe she was winning this thing on her own.
She gave him an assessing look, as if contemplating the idea of biting him. "It's a tempting offer, really, but I think I prefer cheeseburgers. No offense or anything."

"Oh, someone's feisty," Daniel remarked with a smirk. "I mean I don't know about the whole taking a bite out of me. You'll have to try extremely hard to beat me. Although, if you had been the one to take a bite out of me in the first place, it would be a whole different story." He winked at her.
Daniel was going to make it hard for her. It was just the way he was. There was no way he was ever going to take it easy on Victoria. Who would he really be if he did?
At her last comment, he gave her a shocked expression. "You haven't tasted me yet then," he said with a grin. "I'm sure one taste and you'll come back for more."

Sean was running on very little sleep again. This time, it wasn't to force any visions, though. No, now he was just legitimately busy. He was working almost non stop to find Danica, the little girl who'd been kidnapped. Every day that passed that she wasn't returned home made him feel like a worse and worse human being. At this point, he felt like he was this little girl's only hope, and he was just at a loss. That in itself was a clue though- he was convinced Pavel had wizarding help, or he would have been able to track them down by now.
What time he wasn't wracking his brain there, he was buried in books. He'd gone to the rather seedy bookstore his father suggested and found a handful of new books that he'd never heard of before. And they had new information. He didn't know how helpful it was, but at least it was new.
What he wanted to be doing was spending time with Lydia. She was always in the back of his mind, that sad smile of hers making him ache. And he wanted to be taking care of his brother.
As he hurried through the hall of St Mungo's where Dan's room was, he hoped to manage both today. He turned into Dan's room just in time to hear nothing but his last comment, and maybe sleep deprivation was to blame for his reaction, but he laughed, well aware that he probably just ruined the moment.... for a second time now. "Oh, Godric. Worst timing award to me, it seems. Should I come back later?"

It was probably a very good thing that Sean walked in at that moment, because Victoria was very close to either slapping Daniel... or kissing him. The trouble was that she couldn't quite decide which one she wanted to do more. The conversation had turned a bit... suggestive, and although she felt the proper thing would be to slap his face, she really kind of... liked it. She was feeling really attracted to him right now, and she was seriously tempted to lean over and kiss him.
Victoria wasn't sure whether she was relieved or disappointed to have been interrupted.
"Oh, hi, Sean," she said, a little too brightly. "I'm sorry... I didn't bring a burger for you... but you can have some cheese fries, if you want."

Daniel looked to the door when he heard a laugh. Sean really did have bad timing skills, but then again so did he. Maybe it was just a family thing. He raised an eyebrow and then laughed. He wasn't exactly sure how long Sean had been standing there, but he realized that the conversation had turned a little suggestive.
He was fairly surprised Victoria hadn't slapped him yet. Most females would have already slapped him and left, but not her. She responded to him and maybe that was what caused him to be drawn to her.
"It's alright," Daniel said with an amused look to Sean. Quite honestly he was having fun, but then again it might have been a good thing his brother appeared. "Come, have a seat and fries. You haven't eaten yet today."

Sean was about to tell Victoria not to worry about it, and actually take his leave after dropping off some papers for his brother, when Daniel piped up, and Sean gave him a look.
"I had breakfast," he lied, almost laughing at how eerily well his brother knew him to make a statement like that. Still, Daniel was the one in the hospital, and Sean didn't want him to worry about him. One way or another, all reason to worry about Sean would pass soon enough. Sean, though, was in a good mood. "I'll leave you guys. Dan. I just wanted to drop this off... Dan, it's about the little girl. I just wanted to see if you'd take a look. Maybe see something I'm missing."

"Don't look at me like that," he said raising an eyebrow. It didn't matter how many times Sean told Daniel to not worry about him, he was. Both brothers could read the other like an open book. It was just a brotherly thing for Daniel to worry about Sean, especially since he sensed something was going on that he wasn't telling him.
"The little girl," he repeated. Daniel wiped his hands off on a napkin. "What is it?"

Victoria sat back quietly for a moment, watching the two brothers together. She couldn't explain what it was, but there was something really beautiful... and kind of hot... about the way the two brothers related to each other. They worried about each other, they understood each other, they seemed able to communicate without words. Maybe it was just because she'd never had brothers, or even any siblings at all, but it intrigued her, and it made Daniel seem even more appealing than ever.
Merlin, at this rate, she might as well just sleep with him now and get it over with.
"You don't have to hurry out on my account, Sean," she spoke up. "Maybe I can help with your case?"

Sean hesitated. He did feel bad for interrupting their moment (which was quickly becoming a habit with him, he realized with a wry grin), but since they both asked about it, Sean nodded. It wouldn't hurt for Victoria to take an interest in it, he reasoned. And he knew Dan would help him.
"All right," he said, grabbing a chair from the other side of the room and dragging it over, sitting next to Victoria, and handing her the file, which really had very little in it.
"I don't get it... I mean, I've handled kidnapping cases before, and they fall into different categories, but they're always straightforward. You'll see it in the file, but Danica's mother got a "come alone" note, except that there were no details. Details were to come in a second letter that hasn't shown up. We even know who the kidnapper is, but he's a muggle. Obviously with a wizard's help, especially since the dark mark was seen over the place where she was taken. But we can't find any other death eater ties, and every lead we do get comes up empty... whoever's helping him hide is really good at this. I just... Dani's 11. She must be terrified, if she's even still alive..."

"A muggle," Daniel repeated. He looked over Victoria's shoulder as he glanced over the file. "It could be something to attempt to throw off anyone trying to find her, but the mother." He saw the look on Sean's face. "The girl is still alive. I'm pretty sure of it. After all, the person wants the mother to come. If the person killed Dani, then his bargaining would be completely useless." The situation didn't really make sense. Daniel heard Sean talk about it before, but now even Daniel was confused.
"Maybe we could check on the muggle's records. That might lead us somewhere, anywhere."

"I would agree," Sean said, leaning back in the chair and running a hand through his hair. This made him feel better, having Daniel and Victoria digging into this too. "Except that the note was sent a week ago, and they haven't heard from him since. Something could have gone wrong. Apparently, Dani is pretty vivacious. She could have taught or tried to run away, he could have lost his temper..." He trailed off, sure they would pick up on what he was implying. "It's just the sudden lack of communication that bugs me."
He nodded again. "Yeah, did that too. Rich, has a temper problem. Hired several PI's to try and find his wife from a loveless marriage. Suspected of some sour deals, but over all, he's got a clean slate. I've been looking into anyone in the area who may have seen him, but nothing. I suspect whoever is helping him is the face that people would have seen, but I have no way of knowing who it is. I pulled up a list of suspected Death Eaters, but that only narrows it down so much."

Victoria's brow furrowed as she peered down at the file. She had some ideas running through her head, and she leaned in closer to read the file carefully, eventually taking it from Daniel as she focused on one part of the file.
"OK," she said at last, looking up at both of them. "I think you can narrow it down more than just Death Eaters. Whoever is helping this guy would almost have to be a regular at the club. How else would he know that the mother worked there and that the girl was there a lot? He would have had to see her before, and he'd know how to get her out without anyone seeing it. This had to have been planned, in order for him to disappear with the girl so quickly. And... correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't most of the people who go to Ambrosia rich? Someone who's actually rich isn't going to accept money from a muggle to help with a kidnapping. If this person's a Death Eater at all, then they're not really a strict one... most of them wouldn't deal with a muggle at all. This one needs money... so he's not really rich. He just wants people to think he is. I'd be willing to bet he's a sort of con artist type."
Then she stopped talking and blushed deeply. She was probably way off base, or maybe they'd already thought of these things. She didn't even know if it was her place to just butt into the case, even though Sean had asked.
"Or... I don't know. I could be wrong, but that's what it seems to me."

Sean's brow, in turn, furrowed as the blonde spoke, and he nodded slowly, mulling over everything she said. When she finished up with that second guessing remark, however, he laughed once and turned his gaze to Daniel. "Marry her."
Growing serious again, he turned back to Victoria, having a sudden urge to make sure she knew as much about this case as he did, if not more. He wanted to push her and see what else she could come up with. It wasn't fair of him, but he didn't let himself dwell on that.
"I think you're on to something about him not being a very strict Death Eater. You're right, or he... or she... wouldn't be dealing with a muggle. Which also means he's not very loyal, either, which means he can be bought and that might work to our advantage. But he doesn't necessarily have to be a regular. He could just be really lucky... it wouldn't be hard to figure out where Aurelia- that's the mother- worked. He could have shown up, seen the girl and made a comment to the hostess, and all of a sudden, he knows the girl shows up all the time."
He ran a hand through his hair. "He could be rich, too. Maybe the father is offering him something that money and magic can't get him. Doubtful, though, I'll give you that. But if he's not a loyal Death Eater, that probably also means he's not on our suspected DE list, either."

Victoria's face flooded with warmth at Sean's comment, and she found for a moment that she couldn't meet his, or Daniel's eyes. She didn't want to know what Daniel was thinking about that suggestion, even if it was meant to tease him.
But as Sean brought the topic back to the case, she looked back up at him with a determined look on her face. She didn't want to be a girl about this; she wanted to prove that she could focus on the case and ignore the chemistry between her and Daniel for just a few minutes.
"That's true," she agreed. "And even with suspected Death Eater lists, there's no guarantee that he or she would be on the list. It's a starting point, nothing less. Maybe you could ask the staff if they remember any customers that were there that night, preferably people who had been there before? I'd still think that, even if he wasn't a regular, he would have been there more than once, because he'd have to plan a way to escape with the girl and not be seen."

At Sean's comment about marrying Victoria, Daniel's eyebrows went up. He couldn't ponder too long on that thought because the topic changed. It was amazing how fast the brothers could go from an amusing moment to a serious one.
"I agree. The person has to have been there before and know the layout of the place. I'm fairly sure even if we look at the list, it wouldn't be one of those people who are on it. They would have to be a lower rank so to speak I do believe. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be anyone that Aurelia would know. Maybe the bartender remembers any people looking around or just seemingly out of place that night."

Victoria thoughtfully chewed on a cheese fry and looked over at Daniel as he was talking. Her cheeks still felt warm, as she thought to herself just how attractive he was when he was talking business. This was a dangerous thought to have, and yet she found it difficult for a moment to think of anything else.
"Maybe we should monitor magical activities in muggle areas," she suggested. "Chances are, they're keeping the girl near the city, and she'd have to be in a muggle area because of the father. But if a wizard is helping, then sooner or later, a blip of magic would have to show up in an area where it shouldn't be."

Sean relaxed. Victoria was using "we" which was a good sign. It meant that she at least was invested, and he would put a note in the file later that both his brother and Victoria were across the case. It would be a quicker transition if anything happened than getting someone else up to speed. He was, at this point, banking on the fact that he needed this. He was calm about te prospect of something happening to him, and very soon.
"Yeah.... We'll do that. I've checked with the staff about anyone who looked out of place or suspicious, but none of them were really... Sure. The hostess seemed skittish and said there was someone she hadn't liked, but that's not much to go off of. I've been monitoring some of te outlying areas... Te ransom note had iron residue and we've been watching the factory district. Nothing yet. Do you mind if I leave you with the file? Just in case you think of anything. I've memorized the thing backwards and forwards."

"You can leave the file," replied Daniel. Just like his brother, he would study the file over and over and learn it cover to cover.
"We'll get it figured out," he said. "I'm getting out of here soon, hopefully tomorrow, and we can go from there. Maybe we can pull off one of those undercover things where we look through the warehouses. I'm sure we can get a warrant for that. Quite honestly if we want to find her sooner, we're going to have to do it the non-magical way to start with."
Daniel let out a sigh. He knew Sean had been stressing over the file for awhile now, but that wasn't everything that was wrong. He wanted to ask him what else was going on, but Victoria was right there. More than likely if Daniel decided to press what else was wrong, there could be an argument.
Deciding to lighten the mood a little bit, Daniel put on a light smile. "How are you and that nurse getting along Sean," he asked with a hint of teasing to his voice.

Sean smiled slightly. When he and Daniel were little, they always said they wanted to be MLE so they could go undercover or do a big bust. They loved the idea of being extremely bad arse. Maybe they would finally get their chance.
"It's about time, Dan. One vampire bite and you're milking this for all it's worth..." He refrained from winking, especially when Daniel changed subjects.
"Okay... That's my cue to leave, I think. And shes a mediwitch, not a nurse. For the record." There was still a hint of a smile on his lips, though. He and Lydia were doing well, in fact. Just an hour ago, he'd been in the staff lounge talking with her after an awkward, perfect kiss.

Daniel rolled his eyes at Sean's first comment. Okay, so maybe he was attempting to milk his hospital visit for what it was worth, but he couldn't help it.
"Oh, touchy touchy," he continued to tease Sean. "Excuse me, how are you and that mediwitch, doing? What is her name? Lydia?" Daniel did not refrain from winking at his brother this time with his infamous smirk on his lips. "I can tell something is going on there. I can see that smile on your face."
Daniel loved more than anything to tease with Sean. Mainly because he knew he could take it and would push back. "It's nothing to be ashamed about."
