Personality: Like most of the sleepers, Zane is a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde. Most of the time, he exudes a quiet intensity mixed with a wry sense of humor. He's very intelligent, and he can even be friendly if he chooses. He's not necessarily the guy you want to go to for a good time, but you can sometimes get him into a good conversation if you catch him in the right mood.
He's defensive, and doesn't tend to let many people get close to him. Even to those few he does call friends, he is guarded and keeps a lot inside. His memory problems trouble him greatly, and he's tried, on occasion, to explore his past, with very little success. Still, he hasn't give up hope that he will figure it out eventually.

History: Zane was another unwanted child, born in Northern Ireland to a 17-year old witch and a much-older, married man who didn't want to take responsibility for the child. The mother abandoned him on the father's doorstep, then disappeared. The father, wanting to be rid of the baby, gave him to Walter to use as one of the first sleepers. He was in the program longer than many of the other children, and was kept until age 15, when the last of the sleepers were turned out. He was one of the few who did not participate in the rebellion, and was deemed to be one of their strongest trainees.
When he was turned out, his memory was wiped clean. He didn't attend magic school, but started right to work as a freelance dark creature catcher. He was actually a very high-functioning sleeper, and was even able to date and maintain normal relationships with others. It was one of these relationships that changed his life. He was 21 when he met Faith. She was beautiful, sweet, and caring, and he fell completely in love with her. They dated for a year, then they were married in a small private ceremony. Faith soon became pregnant, and it looked like all was going well.
But of course, it couldn't be that easy. Not long after his son was born, there was an attack. Zane was out on a job when it happened, and he came home to find that his wife and baby had been brutally murdered. Zane went crazy, but he didn't snap... yet. He investigated the murder on his own, identifying and tracking down the killers. He held them both at wand-point, forcing them to confess, when one of them uttered a curious phrase. That was when Zane snapped, killing them both by breaking their necks and mutilating their bodies. He was found at the crime scene, covered in blood and no memory of how he got that way. He was arrested on the spot. He's been in Azkaban for two years now....
