Kryshna hadn't been sedated when she was brought in, only under a body bind curse. But she was fighting it with every ounce of her energy. The pain, alone, caused her to try to fight it, let alone the thoughts of what was going to happen to her when Voldemort found out what had happened.
Her chest began seizing before anything else began moving. It was very clear to the medics that, no matter what they were going to do, this creature was going to feel every bit of it. Her eyes said it all.
Beyond the complications of not being able to sedate her and having to constantly recast the Body Bind curse, her body alone was complicating things. Her anatomy was completely different than any witch or wizard that this hospital had ever dealt with. Her organs were completely rearranged. Her stomach was smaller and let to her heart, she had very few internal organs at all, did not actually bleed, merely just oozed blood. Her lungs, if one could call them that, were practically non existent. As a vampire did not need to breath unless they were speaking, they were completely useless except for that ability. Everything was black, as that was the color of her blood.
It was her heart, though, that was the strangest. Other than being directly connected to what they supposed was her stomach, her heart was irregularly pumping. It would just stop pumping for minutes at a time before suddenly pumping extremely hard. It was almost as if she could control the pumping of her own heart. Only when her heart pumped did any blood actually get forced out of her body. And her heart was the only organ that was not completely black. The first chamber was a bright red, the normal color of blood. As it progressed through each chamber, though, each one became darker and darker until the 4th and final chamber, which was completely black.
On the rare occassion that she fought for control, the same words were repeated over and over again in arabic.
"dam... a'yan... fasal" 'blood... lord... failure...'

Angelique had followed Chase and the other Healers assigned to treat the creature, figuring that they would need a Ministry presence, just in case. She had actually been surprised when Rutger chose to go with his partner and not Kryshna, having assumed that he was the type who would want to be responsible for his own prisoner. But then she had seen the way his expression softened when he looked at Alana, and she understood.
She and Chase had run into each other several times before, all in similarly chaotic emergency situations, and it was honestly becoming something of a running joke at this point. But there would be time to joke about it later... right now, they had the seemingly pointless task of treating a vampire. A murderous, brutal, violent vampire.
Maybe it was unprofessional of her, but she was prepared to kill the creature if she thought any of the hospital staff was in imminent danger of being killed. Rutger could deal with it... He had to understand the impracticality of treating a vampire in a hospital staff with other patients.
So as she stood back, allowing the Healers to go about their work, she not only held her wand at the ready, but she also clutched a shard of wood from the shattered door that she had grabbed before they left. She hoped she wouldn't have to use it, but she still felt better just for having it.

Darryl had been sent to the room before Chase and the others had arrived, and had just finished prepping the room for the patient. He had no idea, however, that the patient they were to be treating was a vampire; only that he had to be prepared to help hold her down in case she became violent.
He held her down on one side, while Galen held her on the other side. Darryl thought this might be a bit extreme, actually, given the size of the patient. At th moment, she also wasn't moving much, but he was aware, by her attempts, that she was under a body-binding spell.
Usually Darryl didn't get involved in the actual cases... as an orderly, that wasn't really his job. But this time, he had to ask, "What's the deal with this girl? She's smaller than my sister Trina, why does she need two of us to hold her down?"

Chase didn't even notice Angelique. What he noticed were two of his friends and a ministry employee all in the same room as a very deadly creature. For a split second, standing by the creature, he got the urge to order everyone else out of the room. If something happened... but God, he might need their help.
Darryls question shook him. He had a large family. Galen had a wife. Who knew who Angelique had waiting for her back home.
"Okay. Here's the deal...vampirere treating a vampire. She will break loose of the body binding curse. She's strong, she's no better than a wounded animal right now. This is dangerous. So it's your decision... if you want to take yourself off this case, go now, no harm. I want you all to know what you're walking into."
The creature was saying something, but he paid it little mind, locking gazes with the other three in the room.

Galen wasn't going anywhere. Yes, his thoughts did drift to Janis back home, and he knew she'd be worried if she knew he was about to help treat a vampire. But no one here was "expendable." Chase had Maia, not to mention his sister Adrienne. Darryl had a whole huge family of siblings. And Kieran was the only other member left of his family, except for his mother. Besides that, they were all a family on their own--the hospital staff, and they would all back each other up. It might get ugly, but that was why no one was doing it alone.
"No, I'm staying, bro," he said, shaking his head. "I'll help hold her down, while you work on her. It's fine."

For Kieran, this situation was having a surprising effect. He was sober, for once, and he was clear and focused. There was something about being in that sort of panic mode, risking death and injury, to treat a patient that, by all rights, shouldn't be allowed to live at all... it made him feel curiously alive.
He stood at Chase's side, ready to help him with the procedure however possible, while the others held her down. "I'm fine, Chase," he assured him with more confidence than he'd shown in a long time. "Just tell me what you need me to do."

Just then, the binding spell on Kryshna wore off. Her body tensed up and the first thing she did was screamed. It was a horrific scream, as loud as a banshee and showing such pain, one would not think she could feel such pain, being what she was.
Her back arched as she began struggling against the medical assistants. Her yelling continued as she trashed back and forth. It was at that moment that the attendants realized why three of them were needed for her. Her strength was beyond any normal human. She was practically throwing the men around. If there had not been two of them, she more than likely would have.

Darryl had loosened his grip on the creature at just the wrong second. She thrashed suddenly, and the force of her movements flung him backwards. He crashed into the IV stand, which wheeled, along with Darryl, halfway across the room before coming to a stop.
Although it made a lot of noise, everyone was focused on the creature at that moment, so Darryl managed to get to his feet using the IV stand as leverage. "Ow..." he groaned. His back hurt, and his arm. He didn't think it was anything serious, though, and he quickly made his way back to the bed, dragging the IV stand with him.
"No, it's OK. I'm fine," he said quickly.

It all happened so fast. The spell faded too soon, and the creature began to thrash violently, screaming in agony. The sound sent chills up and down Angelique's spine, but she refused to feel sorry for the creature. How much agony had she caused to her many victims? Maybe it was cruel and unfeeling, but Angelique felt no pity.
For a moment, she couldn't get a clean shot to cast a fresh body-binding spell. Chase and Kieran were busy with their equipment, getting ready to treat the beast, while the other two attempted to hold her down. It wasn't until Darryl was thrown backwards that Angelique was able to get a clear shot in, and she moved in closer, aiming anotherl body-binding spells squarely at the creature's stomach. Then, just for good measure, in case she missed, she fired a few more.

Chase looked at each one of the people in the room as they all said they would stay. His eyes shifted to Darryl, his hands every busy while he waited for that response, when the creature broke free of its body binding spell. Darryl was thrown halfway across the room, leaving Galen to manhandle her on his own. Neither he or Kieran were holding their wands at the moment, having been preparing things.
But the vampire went still, and he flashed Angelique a grateful look, knowing it had been her, keeping an eye on them, and not for the first time, saving his hide.
"Hold tight to her... you have to assume at any moment she'll break free, but watch for the signs and say something. Kieran and I, as well as Ms. St. Claire, need to be alerted. I want to be over cautious here. And if you're all in, I'm in. Kieran, work on getting the wood out of her chest. Darryl, see about binding her to the bed if we can, while that body binding curse is fresh."
In all honesty, even if all of them, including Angelique, bailed, he would have stayed. But he respected everyone in this room so much for staying with him through this.

Kryshna's body went very still. So still, they might have thought she was dead if it was not for her eyes. No organ moved, no muscle twitched while the body bind was in play. If she closed her eyes, they probably would have mistaken her for dead.
But, for now, it was easy enough to work on her, as she was very still. The splinters could be seen very easily in her chest, but they were very deeply embedded in her flesh. Many of them were even too small to see. They were very close to her heart. If she trashed too much, it was very possible that they would pierce the heart and kill her instantly. As long as she stayed still, though, it was possible to save her.
The problem was that every time the body bind curse dropped, she would thrash about. It was obvious the creature did not know the threat that this wound had. In her mind, the stake was out, so the threat was out, only pain remained behind.
There was one other problem that they faced, though. Now that she was laying still, the problem was obvious. Her healing and regenerative capabilities were far beyond that of any normal human. Being a vampire, she healed very quickly. But, as they could now see, her healing flesh was forming around the splinters. If they did not work fast to get them all out, and continue to re-open her wound, the shards of wood would be sealed within her flesh.

It was a delicate job, to be sure. But Kieran was up for it. Somehow, the adrenaline was pumping through his system, giving him greater focus than he'd had lately. Once the creature went still again, he bent down low over her, trying to remove the splinters one at a time with a magical scalpel. But it was going to be slow going, and her skin was healing over the wound at an alarming rate.
"She's healing herself..." he grunted, as he struggled to pick another splinter out from a layer of skin. "I'm going to need to make incisions, and I'll need to see where each one is before I do it...."
Standing up, he waved his wand over her, muttering a spell that would cause the wood to glow a soft green color. He could see glowing under the skin already, and a few pieces were dangerously close to the creature's heart.
"You guys, keep her still, I have to cut near her heart," he said.

Kryshna did not move for a long while this time. She was completely still for at least ten minutes before the first movements were seen. Her hand was the first as it clenched into a fist. Then her eyes blinked and turned to look around. Slowly, she regained control over her body. But still, she did not thrash about.
When Kryshna finally had movement in her head, she turned it and looked at Kieran. Her eyes were different. They were not the blood red, feral eyes that they had been when she had first been brought in and was thrashing around. They had faded to a deep brown color and looked rather human.

Kieran kept working quietly, his brow furrowed in deep concentration. Each remaining piece was now deeply embedded in the creature's skin, and if not for the glowing spell he had used, he wouldn't have been able to find them at all. He made another small incision, cutting cleanly into the skin just above the next glowing spot. It was then that he noticed Galen and Darryl both tighten their grips on the creature. Kieran looked up and saw that her eyes were blinking at him. He froze, expecting her to lash out again, and hoping the Auror would be able to get another body-bind spell in so he could continue his delicate work.
But the creature surprised him, and probably everyone else in the room, by not struggling. Her eyes connected with Kieran's, and he was surprised to see that they were brown. "Help," it said, looking straight at him.
Kieran nodded slowly. "I'm trying," he said very seriously. "Just don't move. I'm almost done."

Galen was a little less trusting than Kieran was. He and Darryl had bound the creature's arms and legs to the bed, but the still kept a grip on her shoulders, one of them on each side of the bed, holding her down. Galen was on the creature's right side, gripping her shoulders and holding her down. From his location, he was facing Angelique, and he looked up at her, nodding for her to move forward and be ready to cast the spell at any moment. Kieran might not have cared much about the danger to himself, but Galen, like Chase, felt responsible for the troubled young healer.
But he also noticed the way the creature stopped and looked at Kieran, then spoke. It seemed that the creature was finally realizing that they were actually trying to help her. Galen frowned, focusing his gaze on Kieran. For some reason, he was beginning to wish they hadn't allowed Kieran to work on this case. Yes, he seemed well, he seemed focused and clear... But he also seemed to be almost enjoying this. Somehow, Galen didn't think this was a good thing.

While Kieran worked at the creature's heart, taking the splinters out, or trying to, Chase devoted himself to everything else that needed to be done, with half an ear on Kieran in case he needed help.
Like the younger man, he froze when the creature started moving again. He caught the way her hand curled into a fist, and he swore his heart rate sped up, looking first at Galen, then over his shoulder at Angelique.
But when his attention was back on the vampire, her eyes had gone human, for lack of a better phrase, and he glanced worriedly at Kieran. "Don't fall for it," he warned the boy. It was easy to sympathize when a human was asking for help. He didn't trust it at all. Especially not when Kieran replied.
"Angelique," he said, that warning tone still in his voice, though not directed at her. "Cast the bind, please. Better safe than sorry. It'll be better for her, too," he added this last part as a touch of humanity crept back into him.

Kryshna's heart completely stopped pumping. She was obviously not dead, though, as her eyes remained on Kieran, occasionally looking at Chase and the others as well. She avoided eye contact with the woman in the room. But her heart no longer pumping blood actually helped the young healer do his job. Her regeneration slowed down, she no longer struggled against the hold and, even before the body bind curse, she actually began to relax.
Then, suddenly, blood began to swell in her eyes and slowly drip down her face. In a sick, morbid way, it looked as though she was crying. She looked as though she had completely given up. Exhausted, trapped, injured and in pain, she had never been in a situation like this.
"Dark lord... death to hound..."

Angelique had been watching the procedings carefully, and had moved forward when Galen looked over at her. But like everyone else, for a moment, she was transfixed as the creature seemed... almost human. Luckily, Chase was keeping a cool head about him. When he said her name, she nodded quietly and aimed her wand for a clean shot to recast the body bind. Just as the creature spoke, Angelique cast the spell.
"It's never dull here, is it?" she couldn't help but comment.
She was already wondering about the next steps. Rutger didn't technically work for her; he was with the German ministry, and so when it came to Kryshna, this was pretty much his game. He didn't have to follow the protocol--which would, of course, involve sending the vampire to Azkaban. But would Azkaban actually hold her? If she didn't go to Azkaban, where would they keep her?

Kryshna lay still for the rest of the surgery. Even her healing slowed down a bit, making it easier to remove the shards. She was quiet for the rest of it as well. But her eyes never left the man who was digging around in her chest. She stared at him diligently. Not maliciously, just watching him like an animal curiously watches a human.
Inside her mind, though, she was racing. Her very small world had suddenly been thrown upside down. It was already crazy enough, but now, she did not even know what was going to happen to her. At least under Voldemorte, she knew that as long as she killed for him, she would be given steady blood and safe. But these people were not like the dark lord. They did not revel in killing. Death was all she knew, but these people would want none of it. Would they just set her out in the sunlight to die? It was the only option she could see for her future. They had been after her because of all the people she had killed. It was only appropriate that they would kill her for it.

Kieran kept working quietly, his brow damp with sweat as he concentrated on removing each of the still-glowing shards of wood and dropping them into a small basin. Some of the pieces were quite small, barely more than splinters, but as the vampire's healing slowed, it became easier for him to work. He could feel the creature's eyes fixed on him the entire time, and it sent chills up and down his spine. He managed not to let it distract him, but it wasn't easy. He wasn't sure if she was memorizing his face and movements so she could kill him later, or if she was relieved that he was helping her. Did vampires understand anything other than death?
He finally pulled out the last splinter and dropped it into the basin, then straightened up, looking at the others. He was somewhat surprised, actually, that Chase hadn't attempted to step in when he was finished taking care of the other injuries and setting up the monitoring equipment. He didn't think Chase trusted him much anymore after the time he'd caught him drinking in the lounge. But if he had attempted to step in, Kieran would have protested. He was sober today, and in better shape than he'd been in a while. Somehow, he had needed this case. After all, he could hardly screw this one up, could he? The vampire was already dead... sort of.
"It's done," he said needlessly, wiping his forehead tiredly.
