Aracelis came in to the great hall in her signiture plack pump heels and walked over to the gryffindor table. As she sauntered her red and black plaid skirt flowed and her loose tie wagged back and forth over her black vest and white long sleeved blouse. She sat down and her eyes immediatly searched for something sweet. She had just ran out of her store of candy and was in desperate circumstances. Her eyes were greeted with a bowl of homemade bananna pudding. She served herself some and searched the room for someone worth talking too.

Chip was sitting a few seats away, oblivious to the rest of the room. He was nibbling on a treacle tart, while listening to some music on his specially altered music player and flipping through the latest issue of the music magazine that his mother had owled him the other day. Though he and his mother didn't have a lot of money, she always tried to send him the latest magazines whenever she could, because she knew how much it meant to him. As much as he loved Hogwarts, he needed to feel connected to the outside world, the muggle world. Muggle music was, in his opinion, far superior to wizard music... they did everything without magic and they sang about different types of subjects. Wizards, for as smart as they were, were actually rather isolated and uneducated about the outside world, and Chip never wanted to be like that.
As he finished his treacle tart, Chip happened to glance up and noticed that most of the Gryffindor table was deserted, except for a red-haired girl sitting a few feet away. He realized he must seem rather rude, keeping to himself the way he was, so he took his earpiece off and smiled over at the girl.
"Hey," he greeted her. "You like music?"

Aracelis saw only one boy sitting at the table. He seemed to be engrossed in his music so she dosed into a dreamstate while tapping out her favorite song by ever green trees on the table top. She was startled when she heard someone speak. She looked up and realized it had been the boy. She smiled wide and nodded at his question. "I love music." She answered and stared at his cd player. "What are you listening too?"

(Remember, this is taking place in the 70s, so the music and everything should be close to the time period.)
Chip grinned at her and nodded. "Right on," he said, and got up from his chair and went over to set next to her. Holding the ear piece out to her, he poised his finger above the "play" button.
"I hope you don't mind muggle music," he said. "This is Jimi Hendrix.... He'll blow your mind, I swear. You've never heard nothing like it."
Or maybe she had. He didn't know what she knew about muggle music, but he had found that most people he talked to had never heard most of it, so he got used to assuming that people didn't know about the music he liked. Most were surprised that such music could possibly come from muggles.

((I know, I made up ever green trees as a wizard band from that time))
Aracelis nodded and took the earpiece. She laughed and said, "I like Jimi Hendrix, my dad use to play his stuff all the time. Though I like the Beatles and Journey more." Her father had loved muggle music, he was infactuated by it acctually. He would play it every chance he got, so she was well versed in all types of music, and with her memory skills once she heard or saw it, she would always remember it.
Thinking of this she was taken to a dark place and her face became placcid for just a moment before she shook it off and went back to her usally slight smile.

(That's fine, just a general reminder. ) "Yeah, the Beatles are cool. They're tight. They sing about stuff, you know? Stuff that matters, like peace and love and change. I think more wizards should listen to stuff like that." He trailed off then, giving her an appraising look. She didn't look like someone to worry about, but then, sometimes it was hard to tell. Expressing opinions like his could be kind of dangerous these days. Sure, she was a Gryffindor and a girl, but he didn't think it was fair to underestimate her based on that. Besides, he didn't know who else might be listening. "Anyway, it's cool that you like muggle music. I don't know a lot of wizard bands.... Although the Wrackspurts are kind of OK. I heard that they're heavily influenced by the Beatles."

"Thats why I love them, they send a great meaning into the minds of every person who listens, and they are fun to dance too." Aracelis smiled. She chose not to get into his second comment as to not knowing exactly who he was or who else could be lurking in the shadows. She liked muggle music and wasn't against muggles, but she wasn't exactly gungho on them either. They were the same as them just without the magical qualities. While they were all dandy and all she didn't quite get what all the fuss and war over them was, well other than world domination.
"I don't particularily enjoy the wrackspurts. They are a bit to chorus like for my taste, if you know what I mean."

Chip appeared to think that over a bit. He considered himself to be an expert in most music, but he admitted that he knew more about muggle music than about wizard rock. He just liked it better, and he thought it had more soul.
"Yeah, I see where you're comin' from, at least about the earlier stuff," he agreed at last. "But they've been a lot more experimental in their newer stuff... rocking pretty hard, even. I heard they played a phenomenal show at Enchanted Night Club last week. I wanted to go, but I still have a few more months before I turn 17...."
It occurred to him rather suddenly that he didn't even know this girl's name, and he broke into an embarrassed grin. "Oh, hey, my name's Chip, by the way. I don't think I got your name...?"

Aracelis appeared surprised at his age. He didn't look 17, but of coarse looks can be deceiving. She knew that from past experience with kids in her wizarding community.
She blushed and said "Oh how terribly rood of me, I am Aracelis Summerlin, 5th year." She smiled and shook of the blush, her cheeks looking almost as red as her hair. "So will you be taking your apperation tests soon?" She asked looking particularly enthusiastic about it. It was a stepping stone in any wizards life, just like getting a drivers license in the muggle world.

"Cool name," Chip said. "Nice to meet you."
If Chip was going to do what he wanted to do when he left school, he was going to have to learn to Apparate. So far his lessons hadn't gone well, but he still had a few months to go. It probably would have surprised most people who knew Chip, but he wanted to be an Auror. He was always so laid-back and casual and seemingly only interested in music, but the truth was, Chip cared deeply about the events going on in the world around him. He wanted to make a difference somehow, and he believed that he could. People would probably not take him seriously as a threat, but his calm and relaxed demeanor meant that he was very good at calmly assessing a situation and reacting without panicking. A cool head was needed for the job, and Chip definitely had that.
"Yeah, I'm working on it," he said in answer to Aracelis' question. "I'm probably going to have to take some extra lessons during the summer, I think. It's hard. My birthday's in October, though, so I have time."

Aracelis nodded. "Lessons during the summer would be a good idea." She had wanted to get a job outside of her small wizarding village, but since she couldn't drive yet and walking would be impossible at at least 20 miles comute each way, she couldn't wait tell she turned 17. "Yeah I have heard it takes enormous amounts of energy to do it your first time, and even after that." She was kinda of nervous she wouldn't be able to do it at all.

Chip nodded. "Yeah, it's pretty tough," he agreed. "In our last group session, one girl splinched herself... you don't want that to happen. Looked painful, man."
He shuddered for added effect, then shrugged. "As for me, though, I can't seem to do anything at all. I thiunk the group sessions are too nerve-wracking... everyone's all trying to impress each other or see what everyone else is doing. That's why I think private lessons over the summer might be better."

Aracelis shuddered herself imagining being split in-half between two places.
She nodded and said "You might do better at that. Like you said less pressure, but as for me, the more pressure there is, the better I do. I don't know why, maybe it's because I push myself harder or something. Of coarse my sister is the exact oppisote, you push her too hard and she just shuts down." She shrugged her shoulders and took another bite of pudding, trying to convince herself it tasted like a sugar quil.

Chip shrugged. "That's cool," he said. "I guess I'm the low-stress type. I like to keep things casual, and I get distracted easily. I'd really rather chill out than stress out, you know? Life's too short for stress."
That was how he had always lived his life, keeping things casual and loose. What did it matter in the long run, what he got on a test? He refused to make himself crazy over things like that. He'd learn what he needed to know, and the rest was all just unnecessary pressure.
"So, what, are you a good student? What classes do you take?"

Aracelis nodded. She understood his learning type, her sister was exactly the same.
She pondered his question for a few moments. "Well I guess you could say I am a good student if you looked at my marks, but it's mostly because I have a photographic memory and I just read all the text books before term begins." She smiled and added. " I do believe I am taking Charms, Transfiguration, Astronomy, Potions, Care of Magical Creatures and Divination." She nodded knowing it was right because she had read her schedule 4 times over.

Without realizing it, Chip made a face when she mentioned Potions. It was his least favorite class, and if he didn't need it to become an Auror, he wouldn't take it at all. As it was, he was just barely holding his own in that class, and he was thinking about getting a tutor to help him along.
"I don't think I've ever read the whole book for any of my classes," Chip admitted. "That takes a lot of dedication... I wish I could make myself work that hard. Any idea what you want to do when you're done school?"

Aracelis laughed at his face and said, "You can't be that bad." She never once had trouble with potions, it was one of her best subjects. That was probably due to helping her mother all the time in the potions lab while she was experimenting.
She pondered his question while taking another spoon full of pudding and licking it clean. "Well I guess if I had to decide, I would be a potions expert, and somewhat of a doctor. Just like my mum. I would continue her work and try to find the absolute cure for werewolves. She was really on to something too." Her mind dawdled off as she thought of her mum.

The trouble with potions, for Chip, was that it was such a precise science. One drop too many of an ingredient could mean the difference between a perfect sky blue color and a thick, muddy brown sludge. The directions had to be followed exactly, and one little mistake could literally blow up in one's face.
"Oh, there are plenty of people worse than I am... but it's not easy. I always make just one small mistake and end up with a cauldron full of swamp water."
Still, he had a good amount of respect for anyone who was good at potions. Her ambitions were pretty impressive. "A cure for werewolves?" he said, raising his eyebrows at her. "That's pretty cool. Your mum... She's not around anymore?"
