It was a nice day outside and Dorcas had finished the remainder of her homework, which included writing a paper on her favorite magical creature. That class was not her favorite, and she wished she had the nerve to write nonsense and turn it in. She wasn’t the best student, but she knew her teachers expected more from her, so she at least attempted why the unicorn was her favorite.
After putting her name on what she was sure was her worst essay yet, Dorcas decided to leave her common room and find her friends, wherever they might be. She didn’t see any of them in the common room, so took this opportunity to explore to find them, something she hadn’t been doing enough of lately.
She walked down to the lake, one of her favorite spots. Usually when she had a test to study for and the common room was too loud, she went to the lake for some quiet time, if it wasn’t too late. As she neared the lake, she saw one of her friends.
“Hey!” She greeted as she got closer. “I figured one of you would be out here.”

"Hey, Dory!" Lily greeted Dorcas. She was lying on the cool grass, her red hair fanned out around her head like a fiery halo.
Today was so warm, it felt like summer, and a lot of kids were splashing around in the shallows of the lake, but Lily just wanted to relax and feel the warm sun on her skin. It was a good day to just relax and not worry about school and finals for a little while.
Sitting up, Lily looked over at her. Even though Dorcas was a few years older, Lily considered her a close friend. "Come sit with me. I haven't seen you in a while... How have you been?"

Dorcas smiled as she sat down next to Lily. It seemed that, even though they were in the same house, Dorcas didn't see as much of Lily as she would have liked to. They each had their own group of friends they spent the most time with, but Dorcas tried her best to see her younger friends, too.
"It's so warm today." Dorcas said with a smile. She liked the winter better, but she was never one to complain when it got warmer. She wished she could run into the lake and splash around with the others, but she decided to sit and talk with Lily for a bit.
"I've been pretty good, but I think these finals will be the death of me!" She said with a laugh. She studied a lot and had her own system that worked for her, but some of her classes...she wasn't sure how she would pass a couple of them. And this wasn't even the year for her OWLs yet. She was dreading that. "But besides academics, nothing much has happened. You know me, boring ol' Dory." She said. Truth be told, she was missing Ireland and was hoping she could go visit her grandparents this summer.
"What about you? What's new with you?"

Maura had been so bored. She'd spent most of her morning in her pajamas upstairs in her dorm room while working on homework. She always told herself she wouldn't put her homework off until the last minute but here she was, the day before her astronomy assignment was due pouring over her text book and hoping to finish without falling asleep. She figured it had something to do with the fact that the class was always late at night, which was understandable since they were learning about stars...kind of hard to see them during the day. But she always seemed to find herself falling asleep during class or even while doing the homework. It was either that or the class just bored the hell out of her.
After finishing up Astronomy, she decided to take a break and ignored the pile of homework beside her that was demanding her attention. She put on a tshirt and some shorts, having heard today would be warmer, and walked out her room. She continued walking until she found herself by the lake. There she found a bunch of her friends. She chose to sit with Dorcas and Lily. She didn't talk to Lily Evans much but she knew the red head was nice enough. Dorcas and her were in the same year and so they had talked often.
"Hey guys! It's so nice out today isn't it? Look! I wore shorts even." She said, sounding giddy as she sat down beside the two other girls. "How are you doing?" She asked them with a wide smile.

Lily shook her head and her red hair shimmered brilliantly in the sunlight. "I don't think you're boring, Dory," she replied. "No more than I am, anyway."
She didn't get a chance to say much else, however, because Maura Mosely walked over to them at that moment. She was dressed in shorts and looked almost like she was ready for a walk on the beach.
"Hi," she greeted the other girl. She didn't know Maura very well, but she was very friendly, so she was glad for the chance to talk to her more. "It's beautiful out... I thought spring would never get here, after the long winter we've had."
