Rabastan was cursing Brenda right about now. He should have never accepted that bet, but since when was he one to ever drop a challange? Merlin forbid someone think he couldn't do it. But Callie was a lot harder than he thought to even find. He hoped this wasn't telling of how hard it would be to get a kiss from her. She was supposed to be the easiest one in the group. Godric, if he was losing his touch for reading girls...
"Thank Merlin," he breathed, seeing her around one of the greenhouses. And she was alone... finally. He rather suspected that Linette or that Ravenclaw boy would be hangiing around.
Oh yes, he did his research. He knew the two of them (Callie and whatever his name was) were spending more time together that Callie was ever known to spend with boys.
When he was close enough, he casually, smugly, said, "Well well... fancy seeing you here. But then, you were also the one that wasn't afraid of getting...." he looked her over. "Dirty."

Callie was in a mood. Bobby hadn't talked to her in over a week, and had actually taken to avoiding her altogether. She slipped into bed after curfew, or she would already be asleep when she and Linette came into their room. It was the longest the triplets had ever gone without talking to each other, and Callie was getting very frustrated.
So to turn the corner after a particularly trying Herbology class and see the very reason her sister wasn't talking to her standing in front of her, was really the last thing Callie needed right then.
She came to a complete stop, pulled out her wand and aimed it at him. "You've got the wrong sister," she said fiercely. "I suggest you turn around and walk away before I hex you."

(God I suck)
Rabastan could only smile. He expected this from Callie, after all. She was the sister with the spark, that was for sure. Bobby was like a tamed version of both Callie and Linny. "No, no... I was looking for you, Callie. And I'd appreciate it if you waited to hear me out until you break out the want... but then, you do strike me as the type of girl to just... jump right into it."
Okay, so he wasn't here to make friends. His eyebrows went up at the girl, though, and he softened his smile a bit. "What do you say, give me thirty seconds of your time? It might get you and Bobby talking again. She misses you, you know."
He was dealing a low card here, knowing that this might be the quickest and easiest way to get her attention.

Callie's eyes narrowed to slits as she stared hatefully at Rabastan. He was up to something; she was sure of it. She was not at all fooled by his smile, and she absolutely refused to acknowledge the way it made her knees feel all wobbly. Yes, he was a very good-looking man, but it was possible to resist him. But what did he want with her? Surely he knew how much she hated him. She'd never made any attempt to hide it.
"You disgust me, you know that?" she snarled, still resolutely pointing her wand at him. "I don't need you to 'help' me with Bobby... We'll work things out just fine without your help."
But at his last line, she faltered, and the hand that clutched her wand wavered a little. "How is she? Is she all right? If you hurt her, I swear, I won't even bother with spells, I'll just rip off appendages.... starting with the smallest one."

Rabastan just barely refrained from rolling his eyes, but managed to keep that Salazar may care grin on his face. "Come now... you don't really mean that. At any rate, everyone else may believe you despise me, but I don't buy it for one second."
His posture was relaxed, like Callie wasn't angrily pointing a wand at his face. He was confident... and it would probably get him in trouble one day. But not today.
"Oh yeah?" he asked, almost laughing when Callie said she didn't need his help with Bobby. "How's that working out for you so far? See... we both know you're wrong there. Bobby isn't going to talk to you until you tell her you're okay with me... and please recognize that I'm being the bigger person and reaching out to you. Whatever you may think, sweetheart.... I do care about Bobby."
When she faltered and asked how Bobby was, quickly following it up with a threat, he smirked. "You would want to play with that one first. And about Bobby.... I mean, you'd know all that... if you were working things out with her, wouldn't you?"

Now it was Callie's turn to roll her eyes at him. "Oh, please. Believe it or not, Mr. Lestrange, not everyone thinks you're Godric's gift to women. You're not even that good-looking."
OK, the last part was a complete lie, and she was pretty sure he knew that. He really was that good-looking, and up close he was positively breathtaking. She had to close her eyes for just a second to remember the exact blue color of Dierks' eyes. It gave her strength.
"Oh, right, you're the bigger person all right," she said sarcastically. "I'm sure you're telling her how you're just 'misunderstood' and you're really just looking for someone to love you for your true self, is that it? I don't know what your game is, but I am never going to be OK with you seeing her. I mean, really... You even dated Linette already. So what do you want from me... are you going for the trifecta? Sorry... it's not going to happen. I have a boyfriend."
This last part was also a bit of an exaggeration, but she said it as boldly as she could manage. The truth was, she and Dierks were still really in the "just friends" stage... they hadn't even kissed. Yet.

Rabastan stood there, watching her as she went off on her little tangent. His eyebrows were raised and he was actually kind of amused. And judging by the quick way she was defending things that hadn't even been brought suggested that she was lying when she told him he wasn't good looking. Godric... this was going to be almost too easy.
"Relax, sweetheart. You're not my type." He let this comment hang in the air for a moment, letting her make out of it whatever she wanted, and then unfolded his arms from across his chest and took a deep breath. "Look... whatever you want to think is fine. And actually my being misunderstood or... whatever... hasn't even come up. I really am here on behalf of your sister. Not talking to you is tearing her apart, and I want her to be happy. The thing is... I'm not making her choose between me and you, and you... are. Ease up a little, hm?"
He knew each of the sisters were each other's weakness. He'd learned that while dating Linette. So he was going to keep playing on that until Callie gave in.

Callie practically had to bte down on her tongue to keep from demanding just how she wasn't his type. As far as she could tell, his "type" was pretty much "female." Apparently both Linny and Bobby were also his "type," and she looked just like them. What was so different about her?
Luckily, though, she was able to refrain from questioning this statement, even though it actually sort of hurt. She could not let him see that he could get to her.
Sighing in irritation, Callie crossed her arms over her own chest in what was supposed to look like a challenging pose, but instead looked a little bit defensive. "Fine," she said, her tone still venomous. "Clearly you have some idea that's supposed to help, and you want to share it with me, so let's hear it. I could use a good laugh."

Rabastan actually laughed, and even he didn't know if it was real or part of the act he was putting on for her.
He pressed his lips together and shook his head once. "You know what, forget it. You're obviously doing a superb job keeping your relationship with Bobby together, so why would you listen to the one person she's actually talking to right now? I'll see you around, Callisto."
He turned slowly, putting his hands in his pockets and mumbling something incoherent under his breath. He was counting on Callie stopping him, thinking better on shunning him so quickly, and if she didn't, he was going to have to act very quickly on a new approach. But he was pretty confident she would play right into his game.

"Son of a banshee," Callie hissed under her breath.
She was completely aware of his tactic, and that he was setting a trap for her. She didn't know why, of course, but she knew that he was bluffing about walking away. And yet, she couldn't take that chance. Because he was right. He was the only one Bobby was talking to right now, and if he had some insight... she was going to have to at least hear him out. She didn't have to go along with what he said... but she should at least listen.
But Merlin, she hated that she was stepping into his trap.
"Wait," she said with a sigh. "Just tell me what you were going to say."

Rabastan's lips quirked into a smile. Merlin, it was just too easy sometimes. Girls were just so easy to manipulate.
He dropped the smile and turned back to her, crossing her arms over her chest. "Oh, now you want to listen." He glanced behind him, finding the little rock wall there and leaning against it.
"I'm not a bad guy, Callie. I'm willing to tell her that I'm no good for her, though."

Merlin, she loathed him. Even though his back was turned to her, she somehow knew he was smiling when she told him to wait. When he turned back to her, feigning an innocent expression that she didn't buy for a second, she really wanted to rush at him and slap his smug face. But she listened to his "proposal," watching him with wary eyes.
"And why would you do that?" Callie demanded. "Are you tired of her already? Or are you hoping that if you tell her you're not good for her, that she'll just throw herself at you because she thinks you're so misunderstood?"
Bobby probably would do that, too. He had her so convinced that he was a good guy, that the rumors weren't true, and Callie didn't even think she'd believe him if he said he wasn't good for her. Bobby was a romantic, after all, and she would believe that if he was willing to sacrifice his own happiness for her, he couldn't possibly be as bad as everyone said.
"Oh, Godric. You haven't slept with her already, have you?"

"Good Godric, you are an angry girl." Rabastan frowned for a moment. She didn't know about the bet he had going with Brenda, but God, she was making it so much sweeter to want to get a kiss from her. It was kill her- probably literally rip her soul apart to know that she had kissed Rabastan Lestrange. And when it happened, he was going to make sure everyone else knew, too.
"No, I'm not sick of her. And whether or not I have slept with her is really none of your business, so you can just keep guessing there. What do you want me to do, Callie? I date her and you're unhappy, I offer to tell her she shouldn't date me, and you're unhappy.... what do you want? What is your solution to all of this?"

Callie pressed her lips together into a thin line. Just when she thought she had him all figured out, he did something that confused her. Why would he offer to tell Bobby that he wasn't good for her, if he didn't want to break up with her, and he didn't hope that it would make her want him more? What exactly did he want? He had to be up to something, but Callie couldn't figure out what it was. It was curiosity, more than anything else, that was keeping her from hexing him now.
"OK, I'll bite," she said, her tone lightening a little. She even lowered her wand and loosened her aggressive stance. "So you don't want to dump her already. Then why would you want to tell Bobby that you're not good for her? I know it's not because you actually care about her relationship with me and Linny. You want something. So why don't you tell me, what's in it for you?"

The left corner of his lips curled into a very subtle, almost imperceptible smirk. He couldn't help it, and hoped the look in his eyes would help him pass it off as a ponderous look instead.
"It's not that I don't care about the relationship with the three of you... but I'll be honest and admit that it's not at the top of my concerns. What is, however, is her being happy. I can't have a girl be miserable while I date her. And anyway, you seem to think I'm no good for her.... so I'm willing to tell her exactly what you've been trying to tell her.... because of the two of us, she listens to me. But you have to let her make the decision afterwards." He was stalling, actually, because if he just came out and told her what he was really looking for, she would curse him to next week. It was hard finding a proper in.
"But.... if you're willing to negotiate a bit... I suppose I would be, too."

"Negotiate?" Callie repeated, narrowing her eyes at him coldly. She knew it. He wanted something. But what? The Gryffindor password maybe? Help with a paper or a test? Even Callie, who thought herself so cynical, had no idea what she was in for. She had suggested it earlier, after all, and had been told that she "wasn't his type."
"You really are a slimy son of a banshee, aren't you?" she said harshly. "OK, out with it, then. What do you want?"

Rabastan laughed. It was easy, and he held his hand over his heart, mocking offense. "Calm down, Callie. One of these days, you are going to have to sit back and realize that not everyone has an evil agenda. You obviously don't want to believe that about me, and that's fine. But you're going to age yourself early at this rate. And anyway, I don't want anything."
The smile didn't leave his lips, and he shook his head, as if still amused. "You just look like you want something. My head on a platter aside... what's your ideal outcome, here? That I'll break it off with Bobby before she gets hurt? Too late, she's already invested. And you know that. So what else?"

Oh, Godric, how she longed to slap that smile off his face. Her hand positively itched to do it. But she shoved her hand in her pocket to stop herself. "Oh, you want something. You wouldn't be here if you didn't," she said coldly.
And she also wanted to reply that she didn't want anything from him, but that wasn't exactly true. Since she couldn't have his head on a platter, and he wouldn't break it off with Bobby, there was only one other thing to ask of him.
"I want you to promise--swear--that you won't sleep with her. And if it's too late, then we have no further business here."

Rabastan's smile faded into a rare, serious expression. "I haven't slept with her," he said quietly, and honestly. Whatever he was thinking in that moment, he didn't let on.
Though it was strangely selfless, and that was a weird emotion for him. He shook his head once, and snapped himself out of it. He couldn't be a bleeding heart all of a sudden.
"And sure, I'll swear it. But there's gotta be something in it for me, right?" There, that felt infinitely better and more familiar.

Callie rolled her eyes. She'd expected it; she'd even been waiting for it. It was just like Rabastan to drag her into this whole conversation, holding back whatever it was that he actually wanted from her. And the sad part was, she knew she was probably going to do whatever it was, in order to protect Bobby.
It made her feel a little sick. But she forced herself to ignore the nervous flutter in her stomach and continue to act like she held all the cards.
"Of course there does," she replied bitterly. "All right, what is it? You have my full attention."
