(There's no rush to respond to this, but I had this idea for the perfect opening thread for George, and I just couldn't resist.)
It was intended to be an experiment. This was what George told himself as he walked through the doors of the dodgy little pub on the outskirts of town. He had chosen this place for his experiment because it was out of the way, and therefore less populated than the larger, more well-known pubs of Hogsmeade. He had no idea how this part of the experiment would go, and he wanted to avoid making a scene.
The purpose of the experiment was simple: He needed to become inebriated enough to induce a hangover, so that he could test his new hangover cure potion. The problem, of course, was that George had never been intoxicated before, and therefore, he had no idea how to go about it, or what kind of effect it would have on his system. The first part he understood--he would need to consume copious amounts of alcohol. But how much would be enough? And what would happen to him when he had imbibed enough to become intoxicated?
He'd heard stories of varying degrees--some said that they'd had a good time while drinking... they'd had more courage, they had danced and flirted with girls... well, they actually didn't say "flirted," but the terms they had used were rather vulgar and insulting to George and he preferred not to think on them. He quite hoped he wouldn't become like that. But there were worse stories, which worried him greatly--stories of staggering around, falling, vomiting... it all sounded most unpleasant. But if he was to achieve the desired hangover to test the cure--and George always endeavored to test his own potions before selling them--he would need to experience the sensations of intoxication.
And so it was that George Merryweather walked into Stu's Bar that evening and attempted to act as confident as possible. It was early, so the bar was nearly empty, save for an elderly wizard crying into a pint of ale, and a tiny witch crooning a song called "Crazy" on the makeshift stage.
George took a cursory look around at the billiards tables (he had never seen one before, and they looked fascinating), then made his way up to the bar. He cleared his throat to get the barmaid's attention, then announced as boldly as he could, "I wish to become inebriated."
