Personality (At least 4 sentences, but longer is preferred): Dolores is sickeningly sweet, but it covers an inner core of pure evil. She dresses in pink, frilly outfits and wears her hair in curls. She is usually seen wearing a sweet smile, but it's all a lie. She puts on a good show for authority figures, whose approval she craves above all else, but when their back is turned, watch out! She also hides behind "rules" to get away with treating other people badly. On the rare occasion when she is caught doing something wrong, she always blames it on someone else. She would never willingly accept responsibility for doing anything wrong. In her eyes, she is perfect.
Among her peers, she acts as if she thinks she is better than everyone. Even her sweet smile gives off an air of superiority. Sometimes she watches other students with a disapproving glare that makes her look older than her 13 years. She also is the type to pretend to be friends with someone, but actually talk about them behind their backs. She, of course, would deny her tendency to gossip, but she's notorious for it... and most of what she says isn't true. She never forgets a slight or an insult, and she silently plans revenge against everyone who wrongs her. Or she'll just tell on them. She has few true friends, as she trusts no one and that lack of trust is returned. The only thing she truly likes is cats--the fluffier, the better. She has a white persian cat named Princess, which she dresses in a pink satin bow. (The cat frequently chews off this bow, so Delores must replace it often.) She also decorates her side of the dormitory with lots of stuffed and ceramic cats, piled up on her frilly pink bed. It's kind of creepy.
She is a strong believer in blood purity. Half-breeds like werewolves are especially offensive to her. She doesn't necessarily support the killing of mudbloods; rather, she believes that they should be heavily restricted and denied many privileges. They should all have to register as muggleborns, and be required to pass a series of tests to prove that their powers came about organically and were not stolen. She believes that the spells they be allowed to learn should be severely restricted and that they should not be permitted to hold public office. Unlike some purebloods, she does not particularly have a problem with muggles, but she believes that they should be kept separate from the wizarding world. She is a big advocate of the international statute of secrecy and is fanatical about avoiding performing underaged magic outside of school.
4History (At least 4 sentences): Dolores was raised in a pureblood family, where she was spoiled and pampered like a princess. Her doting mother convinced her she was beautiful and perfect, and she still carries this belief today. Her father gave her whatever she wanted, and whenever she cried, he gave her even more. She was an only child, and had very few friends growing up--even her birthday parties were often filled with strangers who were given gifts just for attending. Her only friends were her cats, and she spent hours dressing them up for tea parties. She took ballet lessons, but had no talent for it. Same with piano, singing, and art. The only thing she was really able to do was sew and crochet, and she mostly used that to make doilies and frilly dresses for her dolls.
One important thing she learned from her father was how to “suck up” to people in positions of power. Her father works in the ministry, and would frequently entertain his bosses and even, on occasion, the Minister of Magic. On such occasions, Dolores was always asked to dress up nicely and act very polite. Her manners were always impeccable, and she would play at being the perfect adorable little angel, always complimenting her father’s guests. The guests were always so impressed with her and with the family’s hospitality, so her father was often given promotion and raises over those who probably deserved it more.
Although strictly a pureblood, Dolores on occasion would go into muggle London with her mother, and from there she experienced many muggle things. She came to prefer muggle clothes, although her idea of muggle clothes is decidedly against the fashionable trends of the day. Most of what she wears is pink, lacy, frilly, or fuzzy.
Upon entering Hogwarts, Dolores was sorted into Slytherin. She didn’t exactly fit in there, and yet, she didn’t seem to fit in anywhere else, either. She mostly just sucked up to kids from influential families and of course to teachers. But her insistence on following the rules and making sure others follow them as well did not exactly make her the most popular girl in school. Friends do not come easy to Dolores—at least not those of her own age. But she doesn’t care. All that matters to her is that she continues to do well and that she tries to impose a little order into the chaos that is Hogwarts.
5RP Sample (At least 4 sentences, must be as the character. Pretend it's your first post):
Delores leaned back against the wall, her arms folded across her lace-covered chest. The so-called Marauders were at it again. They must not have been paying attention to who else was around when they aimed a trip jinx at the Slytherin first year. She had seen it clearly. James Potter fired the trip jinx, and Sirius Black aimed a second spell at the floor to make it slippery. So the poor boy went skidding across the floor as if on ice. Oh, she was going to enjoy getting them in trouble!
"That was really stupid, Mr. Potter," she said in a snide voice. "You know it's against the rules to use magic in the halls. I do hope you have fun in detention."
Turning on her heels, she walked away briskly, a superior smirk on her face. Oh, yes, their head of house would be hearing about this.

Why this is good:
1. Although a description here is not necessary, because the details are filled in below, a nicely-written description does give a good impression that you've really thought about your character and how he or she appears, rather than just rattling off facts and figures about your chosen celebrity.
2. If you want to give specifics on height and weight, it is certainly acceptable, but not necessary. What we're looking for is more of a body type. Is the character skinny, heavy, muscular, toned, etc.? Are they short, tall, or average?
3. The use of more bullet points than are required on the application is a good step. You don't want to be the person who only does the minimum, right?
4. Note a few things in this description: Although the character
thinks she is perfect, the application acknowledges that she is not. Also, note that although she is a malevolent person, she is not a wannabe death eater and she does not worship Lord Voldemort. The application takes into account the time period, in which Voldemort is really just beginning to rise in power. It is also an age-appropriate personality for a 13 year old.
5. Note that although the minimum for a history is 4 sentences, this history (as well as the personality above it) is considerably longer. Try to take the character's past into account as you create the character. A person's past is an important component of who they are and who they will become.
6. Note that in the RP sample, although Dolores is speaking to James, it does not show James speaking back. It is best if you post only as
your character in the RP sample. It becomes distracting when other characters speak.
