Personality: (at least 4 sentences) Ricki can be hard to read sometimes. While she comes off seeming energetic and even bubbly at times, there is something guarded in her personality, always a sense of something holding back. When she is most uncomfortable, that is often when she is at her funniest. She has a sarcastic, even dark sense of humor at times, and she uses it as a shield to keep people away emotionally.
Still, she can be a lot of fun to be around most of the time, and she has an active social life. She goes out on a lot of dates, but it never seems to go anywhere. The reason, of course, is that she's secretly in love with her partner, Milo, but she'll never admit it.
She could be called "hyper-observant." This means that she can, at any given time, tell you how many people in the room are wearing red, how many men there are compared to women, and if ever anything is out of place, she knows it immediately. She can tell when someone has a headache, if they're about to get a cold, and she can tell when someone is lying. This is, of course, a very useful skill for her chosen profession, but it sometimes drives people crazy when she hands them a tissue before they sneeze. She's not psychic; she's just good at seeing signs and interpreting them instantly.
However, when it comes to the people closest to her, she tends to have a blind spot, to the point where she misses even basic cues because she assumes she already knows what's happening.
There is one thing that can trigger an instant change in her. She gets "weird" around babies. Sometimes she'll just freeze up and stare, other times she tears up. If she sees a child or baby in danger, some protective instinct kicks in, and she'll spring into action. Merlin forbid anyone hurt a child in her presence, because she may just commit murder.

History:Ricki had a happy childhood in Northern England. Her parents were very close and loving and spent a lot of time with her. Although they were purebloods, they spent a lot of time around muggles as well, so Ricki learned about both worlds and was very open-minded. It was her mother, a writer, who helped her to sharpen her observation skills, while her father, a professor at Hogwarts, taught her to sharpen her memory. As a result, by the time Ricki started Hogwarts, she had better study skills than most of her peers. She got very high grades and at times came off as a bit of a know-it-all (like Hermione). Because of this, she didn't have a lot of female friends, and the boys only liked her because she was pretty and they hoped she would help them in their studies.
In her sixth year, she met Tom Linwood, a Slytherin boy who was so charming and handsome that she fell head over heels in love with him. She ran away with him right after graduation and eloped. For his part, Tom really did love her, but his love was fleeting. They lived together as husband and wife for 2 years, while Ricki went into the auror training program. Little did she know that her husband was taking a different path. Unemployed, he spent his days in pubs, and it was here that he met Tom Riddle himself. Listening to the man talk, Tom found himself drawn in to his ideas. He had never shared his wife's open-minded opinions about muggles and muggleborns, and to him, Tom Riddle made a lot of sense. He became a death eater.
Not long after completing her auror test, everything fell apart. Ricki became pregnant. Not wanting to be a father, and having different allegiances, Tom left her. Ricki was determined to have the baby and raise it on her own somehow, so she moved back in with her parents. Tom sent her divorce papers, and although she was hurt, she accepted it.
She worked through most of her pregnancy, and everything seemed fine. But six months in, she was on her first mission, and uncovered some information about the early death eaters. She followed a suspect to a meeting, and spotted someone familiar there... her now ex-husband. She freaked out and lost her cool, charging in and confronting him. There was a fight, and he used a Cruciatus curse on her before escaping with the rest of the death eaters.
The stress of the revelation, and the fight, and the curse, sent Ricki into labor. be the time she reached St. Mungo's, they couldn't stop the labor, and she gave birth to a severely premature boy, who she named Billy. The healers said he wouldn't live the night, but he surprised them by living almost a week before dying. Ricki sat next to his small crib night and day, and was with her son when he died. She has never recovered from the loss.
Ricki took a year off from work, staying with her parents and trying to deal with all that had happened. Finally, although she still ached inside for her son, she was able to toughen up enough to get back to work. Never again did she make a mistake like she did with her ex-husband. She wouldn't deal with any case that might involve him, knowing that she could not be impartial. Eventually, she was even able to date again, but it was never anything serious. She always seemed to break things off when they got too close.
When a handsome, dashing American auror joined the department, Ricki liked him instantly. He was so different from the British men she knew, and was a breath of fresh air to her wounded heart. They worked together a few times until he decided to retire. When she heard he was opening a private investigator's office, she asked him if he would like a partner. He agreed, and they've worked together ever since.
Anything else? I like that her real name, Rachael, is only one letter away from Milo's real name, Raphael....
