Naive. That would be one of the better words to describe Garrett for the time being. Some how Cadence Dearborn talked him into doing her homework for her several times, and Garrett never thought twice about it. He was starting to slowly think maybe he shouldn't do her homework for her. That was really the only time he saw her. If she wanted him to do something, she was there. He didn't really get to see her any other time for that, and he wished that he did. She was so pretty and that was probably the reason Garrett asked how high every time she asked him to jump.
He didn't really put two and two together with the whole Cadence situation just yet. Garrett thought that if he continued to help her, that would give him chances to talk to her. That was really all he wanted.
Today happened to be a nice sunny day. Garrett wandered out to the lake. He finished the work Cadence asked him about, as well as his own homework. Now, there wasn't anything else to do. Going outside seemed like his best option because it was a decent place to relax.
Reaching the lake's shore, Garrett stopped and put his hands in his muggle blue jeans as he looked out toward the lake.

Cadence was in a good mood. Cas' offer to take her to Florence in the summer had her excited, if a little impatient. It was so annoying that she had to deal with school and finals and all those other things that, in her opinion, were not the least bit important. She wanted to buy pretty new clothes for her trip, to plan all the places she wanted to go, and to brag about the trip to the other Slytherins. Finals were about the lowest thing on her priority list, if in fact, they made it there at all.
Luckily, she had a game plan. And as she walked out toward the lake, she saw him sitting there. Ah, Garrett. What a fortunate discovery he was!
Breaking into a smile, she approached hi. "Garrett, there you are!" she said happily. "I'm so glad we ran into each other!"

For a few moments, Garrett was completely relaxed as he looked out at the water. For a fourteen year old, he felt like he was busy all the time. He liked to have time to himself, and right now was the perfect moment. It was getting warmer out, and the sun was shining. His thoughts drifted from here to there and back again.
This moment of complete quietness and relaxation didn't last. He heard her voice and he fought the smile that wanted to appear on his face. Part of him wondered if she wanted him to do something for her. More than likely she did want him to do something. When was he going to finally tell her he couldn't continue to 'help' her in the way that he was?
Garrett turned around. "Hey Cadence," he said with a smile. "What's going on?"

Cadence may have acted stupid sometimes, but she was a lot smarter than she let on. She had to be, growing up with so many older brothers. She had watched them for years, how they handled situations, how they talked to people, everything they would let her see. Her best examples had always been Anton and Cassius. Constantine had that troublesome conscience, Quincy barely talked, and Damon may have had the charm and humor, but he was directionless, always trying to keep peace in the family. Anton, meanwhile, controlled every situation he was involved in with ease. Cassius had the temper, but he also could be quite persuasive.
By emulating them, Cadence had learned to read people, to know what they were thinking even if they didn't express it. She noticed a very slight hitch in Garret's movements, a hesitation before he turned to face her. He was getting suspicious, and that would not do. If she wanted him to keep doing things for her, she was going to have to do something for him.
"Oh, nothing at all," she said pleasantly. "I was just so tired of being cooped up in that stuffy old castle... I thought maybe we could spend some time enjoying this beautiful weather. What would you say to a picnic?"

Garrett let all previous thoughts fall as he looked at her. She really was pretty and he didn't deny it to himself that he did have a crush on her. He knew that he did, but he wasn't going to just tell her. He thought that if he said something like that, it would cause her to avoid him, so he kept his mouth closed about that.
"A picnic? Sure." Garrett smiled genuinely. "It is a nice day to be out." Did she really come out to maybe find him? He did notice that whenever she was around her friends, it was as if he didn't really exist unless she wanted something. When she was alone and it was just the two of them, she paid him a lot more attention. Garrett was confused about what that meant, if anything at all.
"We could go over there and sit under the tree."

Cadence's smile was as sweet as warm honey. She knew she was pulling him in again, but she would have to be gentle. Let him think that this was all about him, and about the two of them. She could even let him believe that she liked him.
"OK," she said. "Tell you what. Let me go down to the kitchens and get us a picnic lunch from the elves. And you can wait for me there, all right? What's your very favorite food, so I can make sure to get it for you. Oh! This is going to be so much fun... what a beautiful day for a picnic, don't you think?"
