He wondered – as the elevator in Ariel’s building rose to her floor – if she would even be home that afternoon. If she wasn’t, Daniel decided he would probably just leave the flowers in his hand on the door mat. He’d make sure she got them of course. He had made good friends with Ariel’s neighbors and best friend Brandon.
No, she was going to be home, this was a good plan.
Of course, it wasn’t really planned out at all, the thought just sort of came to him as he finished grading papers.
He wanted to see Ariel again. And not in a club at a bar, nor at a party with a bunch of people like he had seen her before. He wanted to take her out.
So here he was, at Ariel’s doorstep, flowers from the herbology garden in hand. He knocked on the door and held his breath.

Ariel was looking forward to spending a day at home. Without a job, it was so easy for her to do that, although she knew she should probably start looking for one. She was an adult, and therefore shouldn't be relying on her mother to give her money if she needed it.
Because of this, Ariel was dressed in a pair of sweatpants and a plain white short sleeved shirt, and she left her makeup undone and hair in a messy ponytail. She wasn't expected company, so when a knock came to her door while she strolled past with a pint of ice cream in her hand and a spoon in her mouth, she froze and stared at the door. She placed her snack on the coffee table and went to the door.
"Daniel! Sorry, I wasn't expecting anyone. Come in!" She said cheerfully, apologizing right away for her appearance. She noticed the flowers in his hand but said nothing about them as she held the door open for him. Great, the cute guy comes to see me on a not-so-great appearance day, Ariel thought, wishing she had taken some time to make herself look presentable.

Daniel let out a breath when Ariel opened the door. Thank godric, she was home. She let him in and he stepped inside before extending the flowers to her. "For you," he said with a grin. Daniel didn't care that she wasn't wearing make-up or had her hair done, he was just glad to see her.
But he figured for the next part of his unplanned plan, she may want to change, "Give up all hope of getting out of it. You have 10 minutes and then we are going on a date." He grinned.

Ariel smiled as she gladly accepted the flowers, putting them up to her nose to smell them briefly. She loved flowers. "Thank you, Daniel. They smell wonderful!" She quickly put them in a vase she had lying empty on the coffee table, a random thing for Ariel, which she filled with water using magic before turning back to Daniel.
"We... a date?" Ariel asked, surprised. It was good surprise, though, and she quickly thought of the nicest outfit she could throw together in ten minutes that would suit the early spring weather. She had most of her spring and summer clothes still put away. Ariel smiled widely back at him and hugged him suddenly. "I'll be ready in five, promise!" She said, and ran back to her room.

Daniel grinned and hugged her back before she ran off to her room and he chuckled softly. He stood by the door, his hands in his pockets and looking around Ariel's apartment. "It might get cold," he called out to her.

It had taken Ariel a bit longer than five minutes to get ready. In fact, it had taken her close to fifteen. Every shirt she put on with her skirt didn't seem to look right, and when she settled on the only dress she had unpacked for the season her makeup didn't look right. Too much eye shadow, and then not enough... She finally felt satisfied, grabbed her purse, and went back out to where Daniel had been waiting.
"I'm sorry it took so long!" She said as she jogged out of her room. Of course, trying to run even a bit in her heels wasn't a good idea. She tripped, trying to cover it up by bending down quickly and messing with her shoe. She hoped Daniel hadn't noticed, but she was sure she had. After putting on her jacket, she grabbed her keys off of the table near the door and smiled.
"I guess you're ready, so I won't bother asking." She said with a laugh.

Daniel smiled at her as she came from her room. "You look great Ariel," he smiled. He had stepped forward as she tripped, just in case. "Shall we?" he asked, gesturing to her front door. "I was thinking we'd start off with dinner," he added as he led the way out of her apartment.
