Melanie was relaxing in the common room after a long day of school work and obnoxious people. She sat in her favorite spot on the couch as lounged out across the seats. She was tired and just wanted to fall asleep. Just as she was about to, a group of first year girls came in laughing and talking. And of course, they couldn't just go upstairs. They had to sit nearby and keep talking. She sighed and decided to just read her potions book.
She was in the middle of a sentence when she heard the door open again. She glanced up to see Rebecca, her best friend walking into the common room. She smiled at her.
She was two years younger than Melanie but the day they met, they hit it off instantly. She was like a mini Melanie and they liked all the same things. She wasn't much of a people person so when she met Rebecca, it didn't matter to her that she was with out friends. "Hey girl." She said with a grin.

Rebecca was so tired of dealing with immature people, and rather than go to the library and have to deal with them there, she returned to the common room. She was crushed to see first year girls sitting near Melanie, but the lure of her friend was more than enough to help her ignore the others.
Melanie was the older sister that Rebecca didn't get. She had taught her so much about how to act around others that Rebecca was actually starting to turn into Melanie. At least, that is what her friend always said to her.
"Hey you!" Rebecca said, and walked over to Melanie, sitting next to her. "Today was terrible. I hope yours was better." She said.
