Work at the Ministry was keeping Xander busier than ever. It was even beginning to cut into his social life, and he wasn't happy about it. He'd had to cancel two dates this week (with two different girls) because of work emergencies. It was starting to get annoying.
But there were still two people he would always make time for--his sisters. Maura and Amber were his two most favorite people in the world, and he always did whatever he could to visit them at least every couple of weeks.
So on Saturday, he cleared his schedule and sent the girls an owl, inviting them to meet him at the new Chinese restaurant in Hogsmeade for lunch.

Maura was excited when the got the owl from Xander. Because of her school schedule and his work schedule, they didn't get to see each other as often as she would have liked. From what she heard, things at the ministry were getting rather hectic. She felt bad for him but she knew he was good at his job. She hurriedly got ready and was off to meet up with Xander.
She got to Hogsmeade and ended up searching for the new place for ten minutes. She hadn't been there before and didn't even know where it was. After finally coming across the building, she walked in and found her brother instantly. She smilded at him and practically ran over to give him a hug.
"Xander!" She exclaimed, a big happy smile on her face. "How are you?"

Xander hugged her back tightly. After some of the terrible things that he had been seeing lately in the Ministry, he was getting an even stronger sense of the importance of holding on to family. His sisters were the two most important people in the world to him, and he wanted to make sure they knew that.
"Maura, sweetie, you look beautiful," he greeted her. "I'm doing great... busy and overworked, but still good. Where's Amber? Did she get lost in a book again?"

Amber was running late, and she felt horrible for it. Her sister left without her, but Amber expected that; there was only a couple more pages left in the book she was reading, and she didn't want to leave off in the middle of the chapter, so she told Maura to go on ahead. What Amber wasn't anticipating was how hard it was going to be finding the place her brother told her about, and because she was so shy, it was hard for her to ask directions.
Finally, she saw a sign for the Chinese restaurant she was supposed to go to, and as she got inside she saw her sister was already there with Xander. They were both standing, so Amber didn't think she was too late. "Xander! Maura! Sorry I'm late..." she said, feeling horrible. Even when excited, Amber managed to keep her voice down so she wouldn't draw any attention to herself. She was happiest surrounded by books, not people.

Of his two sisters, Xander was closer to Maura. It wasn't that he didn't love Amber, but she was harder to get to know. She was quiet, and always had her nose buried in a book. He suspected that, even now, she had smuggled a book in with her.
Maura was more like him--open and friendly and liked to flirt with the opposite sex. He understood her better. He just wished he knew how to reach Amber as easily.
Still, he pulled her into a hug. "Hey, Am," he said. "I'm glad you could come. You look great."

Amber smiled at her brother's comment. She thought it was sad, but the only guy that ever complimented her was Xander. Amber wasn't exactly the type of girl that guys threw themselves at.
"Thanks, Xander. You look pretty good, too. I bet the girls can't stay away. I read a book a month ago about a man who had women lining up. He could have anyone. You remind me of him." Amber said, stopping herself to gather her thoughts. It made more sense in her head, and she hoped she hadn't hurt her brother's feelings.
"I'm not saying you're exactly like him, but...I'm sorry." She said, and sat down, her head down. She felt incredibly stupid at this moment.

Xander wished that he and Amber were able to communicate better. Was she this way with Maura? Or did they have that sort of twin telepathy thing going on? He wasn't even sure, but it was at times like this when he felt like he was shut out from his sisters.
He smiled his warmest smile, and reached across the table to put his hand on Amber's. "Well, I don't know what book that was, but I appreciate that you see me that way. I wouldn't say I can get any girl... But I do have pretty good luck with girls."
A waitress came up then to fill their water glasses, and he winked at her, causing her to giggle and nearly spill water on his lap. "Could we start off with an order of egg rolls?" he asked her.
The waitress nodded and hurried off to get their order, and Xander turned back to his sisters. "So come on, you two. What's going on at ol' Hoggy Warty Hogwarts? Any good gossip?"

Maura smiled encouragingly to her twin. She didn't know why but Amber and Xander didn't seem to get along as well as Maura and he did. She just clicked with him better. Although she clicked with Amber pretty well too because of the twin thing. She understood that Amber would rather read books while Maura would be out trying to find something new and exciting to do. They had their differences but they also had some pretty big similarities.
"Oh come on, Xander. I'm sure you do just fine with the ladies." Maura teased with a smirk. Just as she said this, the waitress came up and he winked at her. Maura had to resist the urge to roll her eyes. "See what I mean?" She added as the waitress left.
"No gossip so far. Nothing good anyways." She responded with a shrug. "How about you, Amber? Any boys chasing after your heart?" She grinned at her blonde twin, hoping to make her blush.

Xander grinned. Yes, he did all right with girls. But he didn't want his sisters to think that he was some kind of jerk who slept with every woman that came along, either. He didn't want them to think that sort of behavior was acceptable in a guy, and if they thought he was doing it, they might get the wrong idea.
"I do OK," he said again, "But I promise, I treat all girls with respect. You should never be with anyone who doesn't."
Inexplicably, his thoughts went to Nell. She was probably the biggest exception of all the other women in his life. He respected her more than all of the others... and yet he had treated her with the least amount of respect. He'd made a mistake with her, and had regretted it ever since. But he couldn't look back. She probably wouldn't even speak to him, anyway. He just hoped that where ever she was, she was happy.
