Michelle hadn't seen her daughter in a while, and she was worried about her. Ariel was still having trouble finding a job, and Michelle wished that Ariel would put more effort into finding something. She was entirely too picky. Michelle's dream job had hardly been as a secretary in the Ministry of Magic, but it would do. Ariel just needed to find something.
Eager to check up on Ariel, she sent an owl to her daughter, inviting her for lunch at Galligan's Italiano, Michelle's favorite restaurant.

When Ariel got the Owl from her mother, she became a wreck. She was always worried when it came to seeing her mother, even though she loved her. She immeditely worried about what to wear. She decided on a simple solid blue button-up shirt and a black knee-length skirt.
When Ariel arrived at Galligan's Italiano and glanced around the restaurant. It didn't take long to find her mother in the crowd. Ariel was good at picking out people she knew. "Mom!" Ariel said as she walked closer to her. She was happy to see her again. It seemed like it had been a while since she last spent time with her.

Michelle knew the minute her daughter walked into the restaurant, before she even saw or heard her. She felt a connection to Ariel that was stronger than the average mother-daughter bond, and she always knew when her daughter was sick or depressed or in need of a little TLC... sometimes without ever even seeing or hearing from her first.
She looked up and her eyes found Ariel immediately. She broke into a smile and got up from her seat, pulling her into a hug.
"Oh, baby, it's good to see you," she said. "I've missed you so much. Sit down and tell me how everything is going with you."

Ariel sat down across from her mother, smiling. It had been so long since Ariel had gotten a hug from her mother, and she hadn't realised how much she missed it until her mother parted from her so they could sit down. Ariel wouldn't admit it to her friends, but she was still a mama's girl, having only had her mother while she was growing up.
"I've been great! There honestly hasn't been much going on in my life, just met a couple of new people. I'm getting really close at finding a job, mum, I know I am, I can feel it." Ariel said, knowing one of her mother's first questions would be about Ariel's unemployment. "But you! I want to hear what's been going on in your life. How's everything, mum?" She asked. She always worried about her mother only having her job since Ariel's father left their lives. The two of them would stay up and talk about what boys they liked when Ariel was seventeen; it was one of the best conversations she had with her mother. It made Ariel feel closer to her, and strengthened their bond even more.

Michelle smiled softly as she settled into her chair. Ariel had always been good at making friends; she was a regular social butterfly. Michelle could hardly find fault with that, because after all, friends were very important. She just wished that her daughter would put a little more effort into finding a job. She would feel more confident, more fulfilled, if she could find something to do that not only paid well, but would make her happy as well.
On the other hand, Michelle was the exact opposite of her daughter. It wasn't that she had trouble making friends, but when Ariel was growing up, after her father left, Michelle had spent most of her time either working or being a mother. There was little time for a social life. Sure, she had dated a couple of guys when Ariel was old enough, but it had never been anything serious. And having female friends had been even more difficult... the few that she had were all fellow mothers, and all they ever did was talk about their children.
Now that Ariel was on her own and out of the house, Michelle theoretically should have been able to do whatever she wanted. Only she was so used to living in such a guarded way, wrapped up in her daughter, that Michelle had pretty much forgotten how to have a social life. So she was pretty much just working and then going home alone.
"Oh, you know, I've been busy," Michelle replied. "Work's been crazy. I think Angelique is heading for a breakdown."
