Cindy sat curled up in a chair in the Common Room, her potions book open in her lap. She wanted to get better at that subject since she liked it, but she wasn't all that great at it. She studied enough, but she just couldn't get better at it.
She was about to go to sleep when she saw one of her closest friends from the corner of her eye. Even though her friend was only a second year, Cindy got along with her easily.
"Psst! Hey, Vanessa! Over here!" She whispered. It wasn't too late, but Cindy didn't want to wake anyone up.

Vanessa walked into the common room rather late that night after spending a while in one of the towers and ran her hand through her hair. She was about to go upstairs when she heard someone whispering her name. She turned back around to see Cindy Ford lounging on one of the sofas. She raised an eyebrow at her and chuckled before walking over.
"Hey Cindy. Whats up?" She said, curling herself up in the armchair. She loved sitting next to the fire and feeling its warmth.

Cindy smiled as Vanessa walked over to her and sat down. She put her book on the floor next to her chair and sighed, staring into the fire.
"I hope you're not tired. I wouldn't want to keep you awake, but it's early and I can't sleep." Cindy replied. "I still can't get potions. I mean, I like it, but I can't make sense of this new stuff I'm learning. How have things been with you?" Cindy asked, relaxing into the armchair, anticipating a long conversation, or at least what she hoped would be a long conversation. She hadn't had time to talk to Vanessa lately because Cindy was always in the library, and Vanessa went with the friends she had that were around her age.

Vanessa chuckled and nodded. "I understand. I suck when it comes to potions. So, even if I were older I'd be no help to you." She said and ran her hand through her long blonde hair. She smiled at her seventeen year old friend, happy that they were talking again. She hadn't seen her around much and that was upsetting. Vanessa didn't exactly have a whole lot of friends so she treasured the time spent with them.
"Things have been ok.. Pretty boring for the most part. But ok. How about you? How the exciting life of Cindy Ford?" She teased with a grin, loving these talks with her older friend.

Cindy's eyes rolled to the upper left side, showing she was thinking. She loved to talk about herself and what was going on in her own life. What could she tell her friend about her life now?
"Nothing too exciting's been going on. Got an owl from my aunt telling me her husband died, leaving her a large sum of money, so I guess that's good. I never liked the man, so I don't really care. Hmm, what else...oh! I think I'm failing potions--I've managed to blow everything up so far this year, and I know there's tons of boys, but...I haven't talked to them much yet." Cindy said, a blush creeping across her face. "Any guys in your life?" She asked.

"Oh.. well that's uhhm...good?" Vanessa said, uncomfortable with the obvious nonchalant attitude Cindy showed towards her uncle. She found it odd that her friend could find dying a good thing, no matter how much money came from it. She wasn't able to understand because her family was pretty happy with each other as of late. But she shrugged it off because of her next comment. She couldn't help but laugh as she brought up potions. "Yeah, potions is an up and down topic for me. Some days it clicks more than anything, other days I feel like I could be reading french." A blush spread across her face as she mentioned boys. "Well, I do like a couple...." She admitted, a little embaressed to mention names.

Cindy leaned towards Vanessa with a smile on her face. Flipping her hair out of her eyes, she looked directly into her friend's eyes to show that she was serious about this topic. Cindy found it funny that she shrugged something like her uncle's death off, while she was going to be oh-so-serious about boys.
"Names, Nessa, I want names." She said, mentally preparing herself to remember them to ask around, to see if anyone knows them, and to see if they were going to be good enough for Vanessa, according to Cindy's standards, any way. Even though they were friends and Cindy didn't count the age difference, she couldn't help but feel like an over-protective sister at times. This was one of them.
