Personality (At least 4 sentences, but longer is preferred): To those who don't know him or have just met him, Flynn can seem a little odd. But once people get to know him, he quickly becomes one of their favorite people. There's something disarming about his quirky charm that is hard to resist. And when the alcohol is flowing, he's everyone's best friend. He's personable and funny and the life of the party.
He takes great pride in his Irish heritage, and it's wrapped into his very identity. He has a thick Irish accent, and he seems to like all things Irish. On anyone else, it might almost seem pretentious, but he doesn't have a pretentious bone in his body. He's honest, sometimes brutally so, but he doesn't mean it to be hurtful. Rather, he believes that the truth will set you free. What good does it do to let a person think that she doesn't look fat in those jeans? Sure, her feelings aren't hurt, but now she has an unrealistic idea of her appearance, and that isn't fair to her, is it?
As a teacher, he knows that History of Magic isn't exactly the students' favorite class, and he does what he can to keep thing interesting. He's been known to drop weird, random facts into the middle of his lectures, or to break into a joke just to wake his students up. His tests usually include trick questions unrelated to the subject manner.
He can be a bit shy with girls (unless drunk), but he's deeply romantic. He's just looking for that right girl to sweep off her feet. He's extremely loyal and would never cheat or betray the one he loves.
History (At least 4 sentences): Born in Ireland to two pureblooded parents, Flynn has never known a life without magic. He was the middle son of three boys, and the family was poor but very close. He considered his brothers to be his best friends, but of the three of them, he always felt like he was forgotten (classic "middle child" syndrome). He always tried to find ways to stand out, so he became the "funny" one. But he also loved his alone time, and that was usually spent with his nose in a book. He liked reading about the muggle world, in particular,so he read a lot about their history, as well as magical history. By reading, he gathered a large amount of basically useless knowledge that he enjoyed dropping into casual conversation.
When he started Hogwarts, he was sorted into Ravenclaw. He was disappointed by this, because his older brother was in Slytherin. He didn't have a ton of friends, but the ones he had were very close.
When his younger brother started Hogwarts, he was also sorted into Slytherin, and Flynn started to realize that he was becoming the family oddball. The two Slytherin brothers spent a lot of time together, but they mostly ignored Flynn, just because he was in Ravenclaw. Flynn was puzzled and hurt by this, but he tried not to let it show.
By the time his older brother graduated, the separation between the brothers was all but complete. Flynn had somehow become the family pariah. Yet on the eve of his 17th birthday, his older brother showed up at the school to visit him with a bottle of firewhiskey. They both got very drunk, and they had their first open, honest talk in years. It seemed that the family thought that Flynn was becoming a blood traitor. He read muggle history, he wasn't in Slytherin, and one of his best friends was a muggleborn. The rest of the family believed in blood purity, and in fact, the older brother had heard about this guy called Lord Voldemort, and was planning to join up with him. Flynn was horrified. No one in the family had ever confronted him about his beliefs before, and it hurt him to realize that they saw things so differently from how he did. When the firewhiskey ran out, so did Flynn. It was the last time he'd ever see his brother.
His older brother joined up with Voldemort, and was told to kill his own brother as a show of loyalty. But he couldn't do it in the end, and Voldemort himself struck him down. Flynn doesn't know why his older brother died, only that he is dead.
After his older brother's death, Flynn felt like he had to be the "big brother" to his younger brother. But the youngest brother is fiercely independent and thinks he's tougher and stronger than he actually is. He doesn't need his blood traitor brother to protect him...
