It actually helped a lot that he wasn't letting her go. In a way it was frustrating that he wasn't just letting her go but then again it was a good thing.
She felt goosebumps rise as Geoffrey tilted her chin up. Her arms fell to her side as she also felt her heart fall to her feet. Alison wasn't fully expecting him to stop her like that. She couldn't give up on him. He didn't give up on her at first, did he? Sure, the situation was different but he gave her a second chance after she was cold to him at first. Of course that wasn't really intentional seeing as that was a first time she had seen the same guy twice, but he forgave her and waited, didn't he? Couldn't she do the same?
Her eyes met his and she tried not to cry any more than what was evident. She loved him, it was that simple but yet it was complicated. Alison knew that she would wait if he asked, and there he was asking. She was quite for a moment. She wasn't really thinking, just sort of staring. "Yes," she said with a small squeak to her voice in a small whisper. Alison could give him another chance if things got better. Granted he did want he did but she did love him.

Just hearing her say that one word made a world of difference for Geoffrey. He felt like an enormous weight had been lifted from him, like the sun had just burst out from behind the clouds after a violent thunderstorm... pretty much every over-dramatic cliche he would think of. But it was the truth... just hearing her say yes and knowing that maybe there was still hope for them made Geoffrey feel better and more positive than he had felt since... well, since Roland's fake death.
He wanted to cry, he wanted to hug her, he wanted to shout with happiness. That was how good he felt. But in the end, what he did was pull her close to him and press his lips to hers in a passionate kiss. Maybe it was a goodbye (or goodbye for now) kiss, and maybe in the back of his mind, he wanted to leave her something to remember him by... something to hold onto while they were apart. But ultimately, he wasn't thinking of any of that. He was just so happy to have hope again and he wanted to share it with her.

Again, Geoffrey did something she didn't expect. Everything happened so quickly, Alison didn't know how to react. She was glad however that he was wanting to hold on. It would have hurt a lot more if he just let go completely.
Once his lips touched hers, Alison couldn't remember for a moment why she was really upset. Things felt okay for that moment. She leaned into him a little before pulling away to catch the breath that was caught in her throat. When she pulled away, everything came rushing back and she wished that she could just do that again and just sweep it under a rug but that wasn't going to happen. He had to get better first.
There was more hope now and she wasn't as angry as she had been before. Maybe things were going to be okay but there was healing that was needed before anything else.
"I'll see you," she said quietly breaking the slience.

I'll see you. Words that people said every day, not ever really contemplating the meaning behind them. It was just one of those things that people said, right? But suddenly, Geoffrey could see it for what it really was... a promise. This wasn't going to be a goodbye. Not a permanent one, anyway. It was more like a "see you later." Geoffrey could deal with that. As long as there was that hint, that vague but definite promise that they'd see each other again.
"I'll see you," he agreed, nodding slowly as he pulled away.
Maybe this was for the best. Maybe they really could get back together after he finished working on himself. He had a lot of work to do, to make himself good enough for her. It was comforting to know that, once he was done, she might still be waiting for him. Then he could make it up to her for cheating on her. And once he was better, he would be a stronger, happier person, ready to love her the way she deserved. Their relationship would be stronger.
"I'm going to do whatever I have to, so I can get better," he promised. "I still don't know how I'm going to do it yet, but I promise I will."

She would wait. That was the one of the things she was good at. Somewhere in the back of her mind it was questioning if this was going to be the right thing to do, but her intitution said it was a good thing. Hopefully her intitution was messed up because if it was that would surely tear her to bits.
Before she stepped away from him, she looked up at him again. "I know," Alison replied. In a way she had already forgiven him right then when she agreed to wait for him. She wanted to reach up and touch his face but she kept her hands by her side. Finally she stepped away and reached for the door knob before taking her exit.

He didn't stop her this time, even though he really wanted to. But he knew that, right now, they were better off apart. She needed time to fully forgive him, and he needed to work on the problems that were weighing on him that had led him to cheat in the first place. That was the only way they'd be able to have a healthy relationship.
Yet, he couldn't bring himself to say goodbye. That word just always seemed so... final.
So he simply smiled at her as she walked out that door. "I love you," he said.
