Bella sat on the floor in a corner of the common room. The light barely reached her feet as she sat with her back against the wall, he knees bent, propping up a small novel that she was reading. It was an interesting book, fictional, about a wizard who's wife had just died, leaving him with seven young children, a mortgage, and barely any income. Bella had managed to get 2/3 of the way through the book in only a week, but now her eyes were feeling it. She lifted her head and brought her hands to her eyes, rubbing them.

Justine ran into the common room with tears in her eyes. She'd just had another fight with her boyfriend, Jason, and was in a really terrible mood. She wasn't watching where she was going as she ran past the fireplace and she nearly tripped over someone. She stopped so abruptly that she fell backward onto her rear end. "Um, sorry," she said, wiping her eyes.

Bella lowered her hands as a clumsy girl fell right in front of her. "You ought to be," Bella turned her nose up at the girl and returned to her book. But then she heard the sound of the girl crying. Sighing and rolling her eyes, she said in a harsh tone, "what's wrong with you?"

"Like you care," said Justine, sniffling. "I just had another fight with Jason, uh, my boyfriend, that's all. He really can be a jerk sometimes." She looked at the girl and narrowed her eyes. "It was all because that Lucius Malfoy is always telling Jason I'm not good enough to be in Slytherin. You're friends with him, aren't you? I suppose you think the same thing." She stood up and glared at the girl.

"You're right," Bella scowled. "I don't care. And I do agree with Lucius." She turned over the top corner of the page she was on, and shut the book.
"Look at you!" Bella set the book next to her, then stood so that she was on equal ground with Justine. She wouldn't let Justine be in a position to look down on her. Bella was taller than the fifth year by a few inches, which now put Bella at an advantage. Looking down at the girl, still scowling. "Sobbing over a boy! If you were truly meant to uphold the great Slytherin House pride you would do something more with yourself than look like..." the gestured to Justine's tear strewned face.

"What, are you saying I'm ugly, too?" Justine snapped. "Look, the hat put me in Slytherin, and I've heard it's never wrong. Just because I don't know who my family is, or because I cry once in a while doesn't mean I don't belong here!" She wiped at her eyes. "And anyway, I don't really care what you think of me! None of it matters, anyway in the end." She turned on her heels and started to walk away.

Bellatrix laughed at the girl's hysterics. She hadn't meant to call her ugly, she only meant that the girl looked pathetic with tears soaking into her face. But Bella didn't correct the girl's assumption, she was rather amused by it. "Oh, of course you care what I think," Bella cackled as the girl walked away.

"No, I don't," Justine said, wiping at her eyes. "This doesn't matter, none of it matters. Life sucks and then you die. And you're not immortal anymore than I am. Why should I care what people like you have to say, when we're all just dust in the wind?"

The girl's dramatics amused Bellatrix, and she watched with delight as the girl tried to wipe away her tears. She scoffed at Justine's 'immortal' comment. That was one thing Bella was working towards..."Someone's been listening to too much muggle rock music," Bella said, rolling her eyes.
