In light of the terrible news of the death of a student, Carlisle thought it best to teach the younger students a charm that would help elevate their mood. The Cheering Charm would do nicely. He wrote the name of the lesson on the blackboard behind his desk and then took a seat in his chair. The door was propped open and he glanced up from his attendance scroll as the students entered the classroom.

Lyla glanced inside the room but had no qualms about being the first to enter and did so quietly. She glanced at the board after nodding towards the professor and then chose a seat and opened her book to read up on the charm they were about to do.

Gage and Seth walked into class, covered in snow and shivering, but laughing all the same. The weather had just gotten cold enough that there was a thin layer of ice and snow on the grounds and the boys had had their fun of stuffing the frozen water in the other's hair and down their robes.
"He...Hey ther...there Pro...Professsss..r Mac...rae..." Gage chattered when he entered the room.

"Good afternoon gentlemen. Chilly out there?" Carlisle pointed his want at the fireplace on the far side of the classroom and instantly a blazing fire sprung to life. "I'm sure you'll warm up quick enough if you two sit over there." The boys had obviously had fun, doing whatever it was that had resulted in them both being soaking wet and shaking like they were in the middle of an earthquake. He remembered those carefree days of youth. If it weren't for the painstakingly heartwrenching days of youth that accompanied them, he might have longed for his childhood.

Lilac stared at her classmates for a bit tilting her head. She didn't really experience such carefree days. First of all her father would have frowned upon it, and secondly it was hard when she didn't really know who to befriend, not to mention that most slytherins whom she would've liked to befriend, weren't really the rolling around in the ice sort. Except for Seth apparently.

Freddie stumbled in and looked around. He found and empty seat and put his sack down beside the table. He pulled out his charms book and opened it up to the first page. He put his name in it and then started to wonder what he would be doing in that days lesson.

Student's filed into the classroom and one by one the empty seats began to disappear. Carlisle noted that a few of his students were looking a little down, and he assumed not all of them were so because of the traumatic death that had occurred. Teenage angst, and all of that. It was lucky then that he had decided today would be the day he taught them all Cheering Charms.
"Alright then class, settle down and we'll begin." It didn't take long for the noise in the room to die down. Carlisle took this as a good sign. "Today we'll be learning the Cheering Charm. It's a simple but effective charm to perk up the down and out. Before we begin, has anyone encountered this charm before?"

Peter was running a little bit late. He threw on his tie and started to run from the Gryffindor Tower. Since he started hanging around Adelaide, Professor Macrae seemed to be just a little more intimidating than he used to be.
Knowing that he was just a few seconds like, Peter didn't worry about what he looked like as he entered the room. Once he stepped in the class he heard the question asked as he quickly and shyly took his seat, choosing to take one in the front, only hoping that he made the right choice.

Adelaide's little friend, Peter Pettigrew entered the room just as Carlisle was starting the lesson. The boy wasn't technically late, but it wasn't proper to show up exactly at the time class started. Carlisle considered this rude in older wizards, but he gave the boy the benefit of the doubt as he was only twelve. But it didn't stop him from redirecting his question directly to the boy either. Mr Pettigrew, have you encountered the Cheering Charm? Or perhaps have heard stories from those who have?"

Once Professor Macrae directed a question to him, Peter's eyes widened slightly. He swallowed and clasped his hands together. "I-I've never encountered it," Peter said, almost with a squeak. He wasn't used to be called on directly in class.
Peter did read in his charms book last night, just to study a little bit in attempt to be prepared for at least something today. Plus, he didn't want to give any reason to Professor Macrae not to like him. "I haven't heard stories, but I-I did read about it."

Lyla turned her attention to Peter as he entered the room. She knew Professor Macrae's policies on tardiness and she did her best never to be tardy. She fiddled with her book waiting for Peter to give an answer. She herself hated being put in the spotlight like that and squirmed in her seat out of empathy for Peter.

"Ah, well then. Why don't you share what you read with the class." The boy's little squeak of an answer was barely audible and Carlisle almost felt bad for him.

Still not wanting to disappoint the professor, or give him any reason to dislike him, Peter cleared his throat.
"I read that a Cheering Charm will brighten the person who the charm is cast upon's mood and make them happy," Peter said attempting to sound a little more confident. He hoped that his answer would be sufficient. Talking in front of people was not Peter's strong point at all.

"Precisely," Carlisle said reassuringly. "So let's all open our books to Cheering Charms and we'll begin. Partner up and cast your spell. I'll be walking about in case you need me." He knew better than to sit behind a desk in most any of his lessons. And in particular when the students were to be practicing on their peers. There were many things that could go wrong. Fortunately he had yet to encounter any serious mishaps.
