Life hadn't always been so hectic, Chef D thought as he finished reviewing his kitchen for service. Heavy bowls and spatulas were magically kneading bread dough as he threw in splats of warm butter. It was still a relatively small operation, and he knew he could just simply magic the food to appear, but it wouldn't be the same as doing it as much by hand as possible. He had hired another waitress, she seemed serene but nervous. As if she hadn't much experience dealing with many people. He was second guessing his choice to hire her, but she did come on good word of Chloe. Chloe wouldn't spill a drop of soup if she could help it, but this new girl wasn't Chloe and she was new to the area around Hogsmead. He gazed around his kitchen and saw he still had things to do, Harcourt vert that needed trimming, beets and turnips to peel, cut and blanch, alas a seeming endless list of simple chores to do in the hour before opening. That was of course after this new girl showed up and was shown the dining room and a bit of service training that he needed to show her. He did trust Chloe to show her, but it was also his business to know what she was shown. He huffed in irritation, but stopped as he heard a knock on the back door of the kitchen.

Pearl was excited about her new role as a 'worker'. It was so much different that what she knew life to be with her pack, It was a human thing to do. It was a little bit of a impulsive thing to do, if she were honest with herself. She wouldn't stand to be 'supported' by a lower pack member, even if she didn't really know her way around the human world, she would do it just to say she was still forging ahead of her pack. She dressed as Chloe had told her, even with shoes that made her steps sound like heavy thuds on the pavement. She hated shoes of most sorts, but these were especially terrible, they covered her whole foot! She stopped at the back door of the restaurant and knocked. She smelled fresh smelling raw meat, vegetables and bread dough, clearly all wonderful smells of a happy kitchen. That was a pleasant thought that made her smile. The door flew open and the owner was standing in front of her looking at her blankly. He had a white coat with buttons down the front and a tall hat, but with no point at the top like a wizard hat. "Hello Sir, I'm Pearl." she stuck out her hand in greeting like Chloe had shown her and waited for him to return the gesture.

Chef D just blankly looked at his new hire. She was pretty, that much was obvious, but his reservations held as he looked at her offered hand. He shook it briefly and stepped aside and said "come in" He went to his office and grabbed the contract for the job and turned to reenter the kitchen. He caught her taking a small pot of boiling quail eggs off the stove and setting it on the waiting ice bath. He had forgotten them, that was a disturbing thought. She turned to face him in a graceful turn, as she might of picked up his footsteps in the noisy kitchen. A thought occurred to him then, while he hadn't had the intention of hiring a helper, he may of just gotten one. He might believe in a very hands on approach to cooking, he was still a wizard that could easily handle his usual rush of patrons, but he had more coming than was usual. He realized he was over worked. "I think you've worn your hair the wrong way." He said gesturing to the long red ponytail Pearl had. "you'll need to tie it further up."

Pearl was puzzled but she un-did her hair and did a braid as best she could. She felt that she was being tugged around the room already, she was used to leading and not being led. She looked around the kitchen in awe of the moving spoons and floured tables with sticky looking globs of dough. she turned back to look at the older man and decided it would be best to get a little bit of truth out of the way. "I should tell you that I'm a Squib. My family decided to keep me in the wizarding community despite that fact." It was more a lie than a truth, but she couldn't do magic and found that would be the best way of getting that out of the way without having to pretend to do magic.

Chef D nodded and waved a hand away flippantly. "You still have hands, You'll work just as well if not better in the kitchen." He waved his short but whippy wand and made a long apron appear, which he handed to her. "Now, since we have a bit of time before we open the doors, I'll show you the long simple complicated process of opening this restaurant for patrons." taking Pearl by the elbow he lead her around the kitchen, showing her where everything was kept cold, Ovens, a bay marie and a small myriad of other things that had to be done.
