Teagan walked into the Owlery warily. She didn't want anyone to be around when she wrote her letters. Especially not when she had a letter to her father that needed to be written. She frowned as another First Year scurried out of the room and glanced around, double-checking that she was now alone.
Pulling out her quill, she began to write on a spare piece of parchment. Dear Father,
I hope this letter finds you well. I did recieve your letter the last time and I'm really deeply sorry that I didn't get to write back right away. Things are chaotic at this time of the year. The teachers have insisted that we must learn everything at once and there seems to be so much to do.
As to your question, I am not conversing with Mudbloods. Why would I do such a thing as that? It would be going against your express wishes, besides. I'm not without company and I've made many friends. How is Shannon? Is he well? I wish you might reconsider and let him write me... I think about him all the time, you know. And Bryna... She is not causing you trouble, is she? You musn't let her get you upset. You know how she can be. With Love, Teagan
Teagan almost sighed out loud when she examined what she had written. She couldn't really understand her father's need to be superior to everyone and everything. He almost seemed to fear Muggleborns and creatures that he felt were "abnormal". It irritated her that she had to conform to his idea of a perfect society.
What plagued her most is that she had lied to him: about everything. She hadn't made a lot of friends. Not really that many at all. And then there was the little part about Shannon.... Teagan hated to say it but sometimes she hadn't him. He was the favored, he was the one their father loved. It was Bryna she was worried for.
She attached the letter to the owl and watched as it flew off.

Dalton was in the habit of writing his parents every chance he got. He thought that he was close to them both even if they were divorced. He knew that Casey didn't care to much for their parents being apart but Dalton did what he could to keep them all together.
With two letters in hand Dalton made his way up to the Owlery. He wasn't expecting anyone to be there so he was slightly startled when he noticed another body in there. Luckily her back was to him and she didn't see him be startled. He would have automatically lost any 'cool' points if she would have seen it.
Remembering the nicer owls, Dalton made his way over to the right side of the girl and tied one letter around the barn owl's leg and sent it off before being hit in the the hand by one of the meaner owls. Muttering under his breath, he tied the letter to that owl's leg so he wouldn't have to worry about the owl trying to hit him again. Sometimes Dalton could have sworen those owls had something against him.
Once he second letter was tied around the owl's leg, he watched that owl fly away as well. Hopefully he would hear something soon from his parents. Looking to the girl, Dalton figured that he could speak to her. After all they were both in the owlery and it would be mean if he just left without saying a word while he was standing beside her.
"Hi," he said looking to the girl.

Teagan wasn't in anyway aware of the fact that the previously empty classroom had just become a lot less empty. Her thoughts were away with the owl and she just kept thinking how nice it would be to be able to fly away with it. Such thoughts would get her nowhere, however pretty they seemed.
Sighing, she blinked her suddenly heavy eyes before comprehending that she had indeed seen another owl fly off not long after the one that had departed with her letter. It confused her until she heard a voice speak not that far from her. Startling in a rather embarassing way, she put her hand to her chest and attempted to keep her heart from leaping away. Maybe she really did need to start paying more attention to the events around her...
"Oh, hi. Sorry, I didn't see you there," she said eventually.

At first, he wasn't sure if she heard him. If she didn't hear him, Dalton would have tried again. It was just his nature to be known that he was there.
When she turned to him, Dalton recognized her as a girl that was in his house but she was younger. She had to be around Casey's age. What was her name? He was trying to rack his brain to find her name.
He put on a smile. "It's okay," he said with a shrug. "It's Teagan, right?" Okay, maybe that was a lame start and if Dalton wouldn't have looked ridiculous he would have kicked himself. He wasn't exactly a people person, that was more Casey's thing but Dalton did try.

Teagan looked at the boy, not really being able to guess who he was. He was definitely in her house, she could see that plainly, but he was a bit older than her. It came to her suddenly that he was Casey Morgan's older brother. They resembled each other a bit. So, this was Dalton Morgan, a third year if she was correct.
"Yeah, Teagan Kelly. You're Dalton," she didn't ask so much as state.

"Yes," he said with a crooked like smile. He was glad that she knew who he was. If he was going to get somewhere, people were going to have to learn who he was. Of course, there was the part of him that wanted to be not extremely well known, just by the right amount of people.
"Sending off letters?"

She blinked and nodded slowly. It went through her mind to ignore him and tell him that she had things to do but that just wasn't her and she dismissed the thoughts. Lately, she had had trouble sleeping and it was getting to her.
"Yes, I just sent off a letter to my father. I don't have anyone else to write to but him and Grandmum and she's a bit ill right now," she answered honestly.

Why couldn't Dalton have better people skills? He gave a nod. "I hope she gets better," Dalton said. That was a good thing to say, wasn't it? He knew if Casey was here, he would be having a good laugh.
He put one hand in his pocket. "Do you know what's wrong with her? Does she have a cold or something else?"

She smiled at him. He didn't seem like he was the type to be able to offer comfort, even though she found she didn't mind. It wasn't comfort she needed but company and she was certain that Dalton wouldn't be that bad of a companion.
"Oh, nothing serious or anything. She is... rather old and she tends to catch minor colds that develop into full blown pneumonia. But I'm sure she'll be fine... Anyways, how are you? I see you sent off a letter as well," she lead gently, willing to help him along in the conversation.

It was a relief that Teagan was willing to keep the conversation going. If he had been with someone else, the conversation would have probably already ended awkwardly and he would have already walked away.
"I'm, I'm good," he replied. Dalton could have the conversation he just had to try a little harder than other people. "I sent letters off to my mum and dad." It was rare that Casey would send off too many letters. Being the kind of brother he was, Dalton would include in his letters that both he and Casey were asking about each of their parents and then he would give both parents an update on both of them.
"They like to hear from us every once in awhile." Dalton gave a shrug.

She smiled a little hesitantly and then nodded in understanding. Her father liked to hear from her too. It's just that it was probably for different reasons. Rye Kelly really only wanted his daughter to keep in touch with him so he can decide if she is acting proper or shaming the family or something of the sort. That made her flinch so she took in the matter at hand.
Teagan was a bit too shy for normal people but at the moment, she wanted someone to talk to. Dalton was still looking a bit awkward so she decided it was up to her to keep the conversation going.
"That's good. Casey is a really nice boy. I've talked to him a few times. You and him are rather different, though, although not in any bad way. Actually, you both remind me of me and my siblings. Casey reminds me a lot of my little brother Shannon and your relationship seems rather like mine and my sister Bryna's," she said with a smile.

Casey was something that Dalton could talk about. He took pride in his little brother. Dalton started to smile. "Yeah, Casey is a really nice boy." He had no idea what he would do if he didn't have Casey. Even though Dalton was only 13, he felt that he had to protect his brother, always. That protectiveness started when they were really little.
"Casey and I get along pretty well. I have to watch out for him though. Sometimes people like to tease him." Dalton didn't care how old the person was that teased Casey, he would find some way to deal with it. "He's the one that really keeps me out of too much trouble." There was a slow grin on Dalton's face.
"What is your brother and sister like?"

She grinned back at him, glad she had hit on a subject that he could talk about. Teagan liked talking about her siblings, too. Bryna was her best friend and she felt pretty strongly for her little brother, too.
"Well, Bryna and I are very close. I love her so much and we tell each other everything when I'm at home and go everywhere together. She's sweet, kind, and a touch too romantic about things but nevertheless adorable. Shannon is pretty much the opposite. He's my father's favorite and tends to be a bit full of himself as a result. But underneath it all, he's just as adorable as Bryna. I'd protect them both with my whole life," she said fervently.
