Jessica went through the back door at Galligan's restaurant that led to the kitchen and grabbed her chef’s uniform off of the hook by the door. As she tied it up and behind her back, she looked over the menu Shelby had prepared, making sure there wasn’t anything new or unusual that Jess wasn’t familiar with. Satisfied that the menu hadn’t changed too drastically, she went to her area of the kitchen and made sure it was clean and everything was in order for the day.
As she prepared, her mind went longingly to the day she could open her own restaurant, where she could prepare her own menu, hire her own people, cook whatever she wanted…
Working as a sous chef was a great first job for Jessica, she really loved it. But she was always wanting more, always aiming for more.
As she finished up, she sat back a nd took a breath. She was always one of the first ones to get here, so she waited for others to show up before they opened for Lunch.

Since there had been the new addition to the staff, Leighanne didn't feel as stressed by the end of the day as she did before. She liked her job, that was certain but when it came to those extremely busy times it was good to have an extra hand.
As usual, Leighanne was there several hours before lunch started. Things had to be in order before opening. Tables had to be cleaned and set. That wasn't hard to do and it never took too terribly long to do it.
Appearing in the kitchen to see if her mother was around, Leighanne found Jessica first. Seeing the woman, Leighanne smiled. "Hey Jess," she said walking up to her. "Ready for today?"

(I'm throwing Isaac in here.... he has dimples and I don't use him enough!)
Isaac had been faithful to this job ever since he was hired. He didn't mind working as a waiter while he worked towards being a chef, knowing that he had to pay his dues at the bottom before he could climb up. Besides, he was pretty partial to everyone that worked at Galligan's, especially the owner's daughter.
He had about twenty minutes to open, and came in knowing that Leighanne would be there early to set up, and he, of course, was ever helpful. Smiling when he walked in, he caught side of Jessica and Leighanne. "Hey, how are my girls?" he asked, his naturally flirty nature shining through as he came up to them.

"Hey Leighanne," Jess said, smiling at her friend. "Ready as ever," She liked the lunch rush. People comming in wanting their food good and quick, so that they could get baqck to their lives on time. Jessica worked well under that pressure.
She was about to speak up again when Isaac entered. "Hey Isaac," Jessica smiled. She liked the people she worked with. Isaac and Leighanne were good friends to have around. "What have you been up to?"

The more she was around Issac the more she was used to his compliments and his flirty nature, and the less she blushed. However, when he came up like that to greet them, there was still going to be a light tinge of pink to her cheeks.
"Hey Issac," she said turning to him, giving him a smile as well. "Everything is good so far. I'm hoping that this lunch rush is not going to be too crazy today." Jessica was a part of the family almost. Everyone that worked in Galligan's was like a family. If one of them ever needed anything, someone would end up helping them without question.

"Well, there's already a line half way down the block," Isaac said, his face serious as she gestured out the door and looked at Leighanne. It didn't last for long though, as the boy was rarely ever seen without a smile on his face. "No, I'm just kidding. It's a bit chilly today... I think we'll have an average lunch rush."
He looked back to Jessica. "I haven't been up to too much," he replied, answering her question a little belatedly. "Slept in way too late after working that shift last night. Was that insanely busy or what?"
He moved past both of them and grabbed the tub that held the napkins and silverware and started setting tables while he talked to the two girls.
"Where's your mother, Leighanne?"

At first, Leighanne tensed at the news that there was already a line around the block but then she saw Issac's smile. That smile could get her into trouble if she didn't keep herself going. She only shook her head in response.
Once he walked away, Leighanne's gaze went with him without her thinking about it. His next question brought her back to reality and she gave a shrug before moving over to help him set the tables. "I think she is somewhere in the back. I haven't seen her yet this morning."

"Ladies and gents, never fear."
Eddie came in, a boyish smile on his lips. On slower days, it was usually just one of them, him or Jessica, but lunch rushes meant it was a smart idea to have two cooks on staff, if not more.
He came up to the small group, nudging Jessica as a way of greeting, and crossing his muscular arms over his chest. "I think I woke up maybe... an hour ago. Remind me that late nights are not a good idea."

"Last night was nuts!" Jessica said. "Was it a party or something? All I know is that I had to recook one guys order maybe three times before I asked for Eddie's help," just then Eddie walked in the door and she smiled at him. "If I hadn't I probably would have just gone out there and sucker punched the guy myself," she laughed it off.
"How come you guys get to sleep in?" Jess grumbled and leaned against the counter. She hardly slept a wink, her mother kept her up all night, wanting to talk and have "girl-time." She always did whenever Jess wanted sleep most.

"We get to sleep in because obviously, Shelbs likes us better."
Out of everyone here, Leighanne excluded, Eddie had known Shelby the longest and he felt like she and Leighanne were family. It just felt like home coming in here.
"Besides, I closed last night. You left early." This would have been an opportune time to stick his tongue out at the girl, but he decided to be a little classier than that. Just barely. It was all meant in good fun, anyway, and she knew it.

Leighanne looked over her shoulder from setting a table to Jessica and Eddie. "Jess, the only reason why you don't get any sleep is because you like to find all the men in town," she teased. Of course Leighanne knew that wasn't the reason.
"I'm hoping that tonight will not be like it was last night. It was far too crazy." Of course, there were nights like that ever so often, especially if there was a play of some sort going on in London. "Besides, I think the next time we'll have a crazy night like last night would be next week. There's a play coming to town and several people made reservations a few weeks ago for next week."

Isaac groaned playfully. "I think I'm going to be sick that evening, Leighanne. You should schedule a temporary waiter." He winked at her, his smile growing and his dimples showing plainly. It was a smile that could get him in a world of trouble if he ever let it.
"And you know," he threw out casually, helping Leighanne set the tables. "If you ever need an extra cook on hand, I'd be happy to help out." He dropped the hint, maybe for the first time since he'd met the Galligan's, though Eddie and Jess both knew it was his ultimate goal, one day.

"Oh, I can make sure you're not sick that evening," Leighanne said with a teasing tone of her own. Seeing his wink, she only rolled her eyes and just for a second longer her eyes looked at him before looking away back to the tables she was starting to set.
Only once had Leighanne had a taste of his cooking. They hadn't slowed down that night so they didn't have a chance to eat anything until later. She agreed that he could make something for dinner since they hadn't had anything and even then it was really good. Issac never shared with her that he really wanted to be a chef but if they really needed an extra hand in the kitchen, Leighanne could talk to her mother.
"You might be taken up on that offer one night," she said looking back to him then glancing to Jessica and Eddie. Leighanne did know how crazy the kitchen became on extremely busy nights.

Isaac laughed lightly. "Oh, can you?" he asked, raising an eyebrow in Leighanne's direction. "I don't know, I can already feel the cough building up."
Her next words were encouraging to him, and his smile slipped as he regarded her, just to see if she was kidding. "Yeah? Okay." He tried not to sound too eager about the idea, but he really did want to move up.
He glanced back at Eddie and Jessica. They had senority, and if they said no, the idea would be put down immediately.

Eddie caught the glances from both of them and shrugged without even looking towards Jessica. "Sure, why not? There's only so many times I can re-make someone's pasta to their exact specifications before I poison it, so..." he grinned.
And that was it. What else needed to be said on the subject?
"Come on, Jess. Let's go make sure we're all set before people get here."

Jess smiled. Yea right, like she had time to find men in town. If she wasn't here at work, or looking to find a place to start making her own resturant, she was babysitting her mother. Idley, Jess wondered if her mother and her dog had trashed her apartment yet in the hour and a half she'd been gone.
Jess knew how passionate Issac was about one day getting to actually cook, instead of just waiting tables. It was the same passion she had for opening her own place one day. "Sure, we could always use the help. Like Eddie said, there's only so many times I can keep him from poisioning guests." she laughed and winked at Eddie. All in good fun.

Isaac laughed and nodded. "Awesome. Just let me know."
He knew better than to get too excited. And he already told himself that he would be happy as a waiter for a while. Even still, if he could already convince them to try his hand in the kitchen once or twice, he could prove himself and work his way up. And maybe the timing would work out if Jessica ever did open her own place. He'd be a shoe in to replace her... so he hoped. He was pretty sure he and Eddie could make a good team.
"I'm just gonna do a second glance at the dining room, make sure sure we're ready."

Jess followed Eddie toward the back of the kitchen where their massive amounts of supplies were. “What’s the special tonight?” she hoped it wasn’t anything too difficult. The fact that she had to go home to her whining and complaining mother really just made her want to scream. She couldn’t imagine how she was going to feel at the end of the day.
Just the thought of it made Jessica let out a low groan of annoyance.

"Tonight's seafood," Eddie replied easily, rolling his shoulders for a moment before the two of them really set to work. "So I'm going to say.... lobster fettuccini. Executive decision making at it's finest," he added, winking at Jess.
"So... what do you think, should we try the new kid out during one of our slower times, see what he can handle? I mean, if he's good, I have no problem suggesting a more regular appearance to Shelbs. But I trust your judgement too, so... it's your call."
