[Remus Lupin]

Remus walked with the others back to the common room. He hadn't said anything since he'd found out about Sabrina. He felt like the others were watching him and wondering what he was going to do. But he was stunned beyond the ability to even think. He didn't know how he felt or what he was supposed to do. He was lost, confused, and hurt. Once they were back in the common room, Remus walked over and sank down into a chair by the fireplace. Unable to say anything, he just stared into the dancing flames, allowing the light to mesmorize him.

Kris had been laying on the couch reading on wolves when she saw Remus sit in a chair. She sat up looking at him worried, she slid down the couch closer to his chair. He looked how she felt when she woke up after her attack. She kept her voice low when she said, "Remus? Are you ok?"

[Remus Lupin]

Remus looked at her, too tired and sad to fight. Instead, he burst into tears and buried his face in his hands. "No, I'm not OK," he choked out.

[Kris Lupin]

"What's wrong?" Kris asked placing a kind hand on his knee. She wanted to be the big sister she never got to be. He was her brother and she wanted to be there for him.

[Remus Lupin]

"She's.... she's dead...." Remus gasped through his tears. "S... Sabrina's d...dead..."

[Kris Lupin]

"Oh, Remus, I'm so sorry." Kris said quietly. She had met the girl only once and she seemed sweet.

[Remus Lupin]

Remus still couldn't believe it was true. But he'd seen her himself with his own eyes. The only thing he couldn't understand was how the man carrying her could be her father. She had told him that her father was dead. But it didn't really matter anymore. She was gone, he knew that for sure. He just let himself keep crying.

[Kris Lupin]

Kris wanted to hug him but she wasn't sure if he would let her. She felt bad for Remus, and said the only thing she could think of that might help, "I've always heard that when you lose someone you love to forget the bad and remember the good." She hoped it would help him a little.

[Remus Lupin]

Remus tried to calm down a little and stop crying, but he couldn't. Everything hurt, the good memories and the bad ones. Even knowing about Natalie's vision, he still hadn't really believed it. Nothing could have prepared him for this. "I... I can't..." he sobbed. "I can't... remember..."

[Kris Lupin]

"Try to remember the sound of her voice, her laughter, her smile. That's what I did when I...that doesn't matter right now." She didn't matter right now, nothing about what happened to her mattered right now. All that mattered was Remus, she just wanted Remus to come to terms with this.

[Remus Lupin]

Remus just kept crying. "I just... I was just getting to know her... and I miss her already..." he cried. "It's not fair, you know? Stupid Death Eaters..."

[Kris Lupin]

Kris couldn't stand it any longer, she stood up then sat on the chair arm. She put her arms around him holding him. "I know, it's never fair...wait..did you say Death Eaters?"

[Remus Lupin]

Remus didn't even fight her when she put her arms around him. "Yeah..." he said. "I... I don't know what happened, but I think it had to do with Death Eaters... I... I saw her, Kris... I saw her body... she was so still..."

[Kris Lupin]

Kris held him close to her. "I'm so sorry, Remus. I really am." She said trying to sound strong, she had to be strong, for him.

[Remus Lupin]

Remus cried a little longer, until he had no tears left. Then he just stayed there in her arms for a long time, too tired, to miserable to move. After a while, he finally pulled away and looked at her, his face pale and blotchy. "Um... thanks," he said quietly, rubbing at his face.

[Kris Lupin]

"It's what sisters are for." Kris said letting go of him and rubbing where she was bit. "I'll always be here for you, weather you want me as a sister or a friend." She smiled slightly.

[Remus Lupin]

Remus frowned. "Maybe... maybe we can start out as friends? I'm still not sure I believe you about being my sister... I wrote my dad to ask about it and he hasn't answered me yet. But... friends might be OK." He looked at her and saw that she was rubbing her arm. "Um... are you OK? Did you get hurt or something?"

Kris nodded. "Friends will be a good start" She bit her lower lip, "Well, I..I guess since I know your secret you..you should have the right to know mine."

[Remus Lupin]

"Your... secret?" Remus said, his eyes widening. "What secret? What happened?"

[Kris Lupin]

"I was out late on a full moon and...and Greyback came up behind me and was telling me lies...then the moon s-showed all I remember after that is the pain." Kris said very quietly. She had tears falling down her face.
