Penelope dropped her bookbag at the top of a hill and slide down to the edge of the lake. It was a remote area of the lake, she was almost certain no one else even knew about it; at least she had never seen anyone else there. It was surrounded by small shrubs and bushes and required a small hike to get to but it had the perfect seat right next to the water where she could dangle her feet into the water and still hold a book in her lap. She slipped of her shoes and put her feet into the chilly water. She missed the water. Growing up she would often go swimming with her sisters in a pond near there home and though she was too self conscious go swimming at Hogwarts and so she would settle for sticking her feet in the water. Today she had only brought her homework as a show. She leaned back on her arms and lost herself in thought. She never thought that she would be missing her sisters but she found herself wishing more and more that they were closer in age. It wasn't that she had not made friends at school, just that she hadn't found anyone to be very close with. She sighed and kicked her feet around in the water...

It wasn't often that Sirius Black was seen without at least one of his friends. But today, it happened that James was in detention, while Remus and Peter were studying. So Sirius was alone and very bored. Since he loved to explore and find new and different places to hang out, Sirius decided to take a walk to amuse himself.
He had actually been walking along the edge of the Forbidden Forest for a while, toying with the idea of going in. It wasn't that he was afraid, or that he didn't want to break the rules, he was just wandering and found that he preferred the sunlight over the darkness of the forest. At one point, he came to a sort of fork in the road, where one path led toward the far side of the lake, and the other continued along the edge of the forest. He decided to take the path near the lake instead, and came to a slight hill that sloped down toward the water. Down at the edge of the water, he could see a girl sitting there with her feet in the water.
Smiling to himself, he slid down the hill and walked over to the girl. "You know, you shouldn't be this far away from the school. You never know what kind of shady people you might run into."

"You know, you shouldn't be this far away from the school. You never know what kind of shady people you might run into."
Penelope jumped and quickly spun around as she heard the voice. She had been too absorbed in her own thoughts to notice the sound of his footsteps. As soon as she saw him she knew him. Of course she knew him, was there anyone in Hogwarts who did not know him? Though she was a year older than him and tended to not notice younger students, she could not deny that she had noticed Sirius Black. He was definitely attractive and there was something about the way he smiled that made you think he had something mischievous on her mind. She would have to admit that she admired some of the pranks he and his friends played, but if she was being honest what she liked most about him was that his antics made Gryffindor lose so many house points that Ravenclaw would often come out on top of them. 'But what is he doing here, without James?' She thought, 'I'm not sure I've ever seen them apart.'
She cocked an eyebrow as she looked up into his smirking face. Attractive as he was, she certainly wasn't going to turn into one of those giggling girls who would fall over themselves for his. She could hold her own, she could be just as witty. "The black lake is a pretty shady place but as it happens you happen to be the very first shady person I've run into here. After all, you could be anyone, how do I know your even a student?"

Sirius just laughed as he sat down next to her. He knew perfectly well that everyone knew who he was. Even seventh years who were far above him knew who Sirius Black was. Member of the illustrious Black family, rebelling against his family's traditions as well as the school rules, flirting with girls, and sometimes breaking their hearts... In just a year and a half, Sirius had managed to attain quite a good amount of notoriety.
So when she teased him that he might not even be a student, he just laughed knowingly. Of course she knew he was a student. She knew exactly who he was.
"I never said I wasn't shady," he replied. "But I think you know I'm a student. I'm pretty sure I've seen you in a few of my classes."
