Sydney wasn’t feeling well at all after her dinner with Noelle. While it was good to see her friend after all this time, she had hoped for a better reaction to her news. OK, maybe she hadn’t expected Noelle to jump for joy and tell her everything was perfect. But Noelle, in her typical style, had held nothing back, and Sydney was left feeling like dragon dung.
The truth was, she knew she had handled things terribly with Cale. And there was a part of her that still loved him desperately, that still ached for him. But they had grown apart a long time ago, and she had just been too selfish to let him go, as she should have done. He had done it for her, letting her go off to Egypt, but with the expectation that she would come back to him one day. Sydney had never planned to fall in love with someone else… It had just happened. Now, how was she supposed to tell Cale about it? She had hoped he would move on …
Sighing quietly to herself, Sydney arrived at the hotel where she was staying with her fiancé, Adam. He always helped her to talk things out. And even though she doubted she was going to feel better about this, she hoped maybe he could ease her mind just a little.
She took the lift up to their room on the fifth floor, and walked slowly down the hall, still lost in thought. All of this, she knew, was her fault. And maybe she shouldn’t marry Adam, either. What if she one day broke his heart, just as she was about to do to Cale?
There were tears in her eyes as she unlocked the door and stepped into their room. “Adam? Honey, are you still up?”

Adam was willing to come back to England with Sydney. He knew that there were a few things that she needed to take care of and he was willing to stand by her side when she needed him.
Tonight, Adam stayed at the motel while Sydney went out to dinner with one of her friends. He understood that they needed to catch up and he could find something to entertain himself while she was gone.
Adam hadn't planned on falling in love either when he went off to do what he had always dreamed of. He thought that he would just be alone, and that was perfectly fine because he would be doing something that he loved. He was in love with finding historic objects and when he finally had the chance to go out and start that, he took that oppotunity. Never did he think that he was going to meet someone. At first, Sydney was just someone that he was working with. However, as time went on, he found himself falling in love with her. Adam didn't quite understand it, but who was he to question it? Sydney was quite the woman and he couldn't help that he did fall for her.
Sitting around the motel room, watching the muggle television that was in the room and looking through whatever little books the motel had in the room, Adam lost track of time. Before he knew it, Sydney was coming in. "I'm still here sweetheart," he called as he stood up to meet her.
When he caught sight of her, Adam took a few steps closer to her. "Is everything alright," he asked putting a hand on her cheek.

Sydney smiled softly at the sight of him. He was always good at calming her down when she was upset or frustrated about something. Once Cale had been the one to do that, and then, for a long time, she'd had to deal with it on her own. But that had been her own fault, and she knew it. What really mattered now was that Adam was here, and they fit together like two pieces of a puzzle.
She wrapped her arms around him and leaned her head against his chest, closing her eyes. "Let's just say that dinner didn't quite go as well as I hoped it would," she said with a tired sigh.

He put his arms around Sydney as she leaned her head against his chest. Adam tilted his head down so that his cheek could rest on the top of her head. He started to rub her back slowly.
"I'm sorry," he said softly. Adam wasn't going to push her to talk about it. He knew that she would end up doing so if she wanted to. He would listen to her and then comment wherever it was needed.
Adam planted a kiss on Sydney's head. "Come on and sit down with me for a little bit."

Sydney sighed softly and hugged him just a little more tightly. I really should have done this years ago,” she said. “Now it’s even worse, because not only do I want a divorce, but I have someone else in my life, so it makes me look selfish.”
She followed him over to the couch and sat down, leaning her head against his shoulder. “Do you think it’s selfish of me that I want to be with you? I never planned any of this, and I admit I handled things with Cale all wrong… How was I to know he was going to stay faithful all this time? Who does that?”

"We can't always plan what will happen so I don't think its selfish. It's not like you woke up one morning and decided something like that. It happened over time." He was trying to be encouraging, the kind of man she needed at the moment.
Adam knew the answer to her question. A man who was still in love with her was the type of man who would stay faithful for so long. He knew that if he phrased it that way it could make Sydney become a little defensive and then she could go on about how she loved Cale too. Adam didn't want to make Sydney go into any sort of defensive state with him.
For the best, Adam didn't answer the question. He only held onto her. "We'll get everything straightened out somehow or another."

There was a part of Sydney that still loved Cale, too. The very thought of him and how horribly she had treated him made her ache inside. She knew she hadn't been a good wife to him; that her love for him had not been enough to draw her away from the career that she loved so much. He loved her far more than she deserved, and she hated herself for ngelecting him and abandoning him. And the worst was yet to come. If she asked for a divorce, she knew Cale would give it to her... but she also knew how much it would hurt him.
She pressed closer to Adam, but couldn't look at him. She couldn't help but wonder if, sometime in the future, she would sabotage her relatioship with hm the same way she had done with Cale.
"I don't deserve you," she said softly, leaning up to kiss him.
