Luke felt guilty that he always stayed home while his wife worked, so he decided to get out of the house for some fresh air any maybe, if he was lucky, get a job so Lindsay wouldn't have to work so much. He stopped at St. Mungo's first to visit her.
He was unsure of where to go, and everyone he asked had told him to go to the next floor up, that Lindsay might be there. Luke knew about the fighting that was happening--it bothered Lindsay so much to see so many people hurt from it--but he wasn't expecting the hospital to be so filled. Of course, he didn't really know what to expect since he was never at the hospital that much any way.
As he turned out of a filled hallway, he saw the familiar figure of his wife walking the opposite way. He quickened his pace and tried to figure out the best way to get her attention, either walk up beside her without saying something, or let her know he was there. He decided on the second option, seeing as he didn't want to startle her. He wasn't sure the type of day she was having. "Hey beautiful, wait up!" He called when he got close enough to her.

Lindsay was about due for a break. She was unusually busy today, because Kieran had owled in sick today, and she had to cover all of his patients, along with her own duties. It was frustrating, but she couldn’t exactly blame the guy. He had been looking very ill lately, and she was honestly worried about him.
She had just finished dealing with a particularly difficult patient, and she desperately needed a cup of coffee and something to eat. Then, like a miracle, she heard her husband’s voice behind her.
Breaking into a tired smile, she stopped and turned around. “Luke!” she greeted him. “How did you know I needed you?”

Luke shrugged and kissed his wife gently, hoping no one saw. He had this weird fear that his wife would get in trouble for any public display of affection, even though she had such a high standing. He never held a job long enough to figure out if you could do that or not.
"I guess it's lucky that I showed up now, then. You look more tired than you did yesterday. They still making you work so hard? Take the day off, come with me to get something to eat," he offered, even know he knew she couldn't leave her job. He knew from what he saw it was too busy for her to leave today.

Because she was in charge, Lindsay didn't really care who saw her kissing her husband. Yes, it was true that she preferred to keep her work life and home life separate, but an occasional visit from her husband was always appreciated. She was usually very understanding to the rest of the staff in similar situations as well. Maia frequently came by to visit Chase, and, before her untimely death, Ivy had often come to visit Kieran. In a place that was often so filled with stress and fear and pain, a little bit of love and happiness could do a lot of good.
She held him just a little bit longer, taking in the scent of him, and the feel of him close to her. Merlin, she missed him terribly during the day. Although he seemed unable to hold down a job or do much of anything, Lindsay had the ability to only see the good in him.
"Mmm, I wish I could, honey. But I'm down a healer today. Kieran owled in sick, so I have to cover his shift in addition to my own, at least for another hour. Lydia agreed to come in a couple of hours early, but she's working the night shift tonight."

Luke's face dropped as he sighed. He should have realized how busy Lindsay would be; his hopes shouldn't have been so high. He put on a smile for her and tried not to seem disappointed. "Ah, okay. Some other time, then?" He asked, and looking around him at everyone who needed help, and realized today was a really bad day to come. "Just don't overwork yourself, okay? I'd hate to see you here as a patient-nothing would get done. You hold everything together," He said, trying his best to brighten his wife's day.

Lindsay reached out and took her husband's hand. "No, don't go yet," she said, smiling softly. "I can't take the day off, but I don't see any harm in taking off for an hour or so, just to get something to eat. I'm honestly about ready to drop right now, and I don't think I've had anything except for a donut all day. Come on, come with me. We could just go to the cafeteria, if you want... I hear it's their famous Meatloaf Monday..."
She arched her eyebrow suspiciously at that. In truth, the cafeteria was not known for its fine cuisine, but for the healers who spent all day on their feet, it was a lifeline.

Luke made a face at the "meatloaf Monday" since he heard Lindsay talk about the meatloaf before. It was too bad she couldn't leave for an hour, or Luke would have taken her to a better place to eat.
"Alright, I guess I can put up with the meatloaf since you'll be there with me." Luke said with a smile. He was in a pretty good mood now that he was with his wife. Whenever he was around her, it seemed like any problems he was having vanished.

Lindsay smiled and wrapped one arm around Luke as they began to walk to the cafeteria. "They have sandwiches, too," she assured him. "I would stay away from the tuna salad, but the ham and cheese isn't bad. But don't, under any circumstances, drink the coffee. It tastes worse than polyjuice potion."
She hated that she didn't have much time for him, but she was still glad that he was here. On a day like today, she needed a friendly face. And he gave her an excuse to take a much-needed break.
"Is everything OK at home? Or were just just bored?"

Luke made a mental note of the coffee, even though it was what he was in the mood for drinking. He decided he'd get some after he left the hospital. He didn't want to leave any time soon, and if he had his way he'd be taking Lindsay home now and letting her relax while he ordered from their favorite place, and he'd finally be spending time with his wife, which he hasn't had time for in a long while.
"Well, I was going to look for a job today to help you out so you won't have to work so much, but I wanted to stop by and see you first. The job hunt was going to be a surprise, but it's not certain that I'll even find one I like." He said, knowing that adding the last couple of words were bad. He was reminded often that it didn't matter if he liked the job or not, he needed to get one rather than letting his wife do all of the work.

What Luke didn't entirely understand was that Lindsay didn't just work for the money. Yes, they needed money, and her job paid well, but even if he was working, it probably wouldn't have an effect on how much she worked. Her job was important, and she felt fulfilled by being able to help people. Paperwork, files, and red tape didn't mean anything to her.... what was important was the patients and making sure that they all got the very best possible treatment. She ran St. Mungo's because she knew in her heart that no one could do it better.
But that didn't mean that she didn't want Luke to get a job. The extra money would be helpful, of course, but it was more than that. Lindsay believed the best about her husband and believed that he could do great things, if only he would set his mind to it. He was stagnating, just sitting around and not doing anything of worth.... so he was bored. He needed to find that one thing that could make him feel as fulfilled as her job did for her.
"Did you do what I suggested, honey?" she asked. "Remember, I said to make a list of the things you like to do, and we could see if there were any jobs that would use them."
