Maximillian sat by the fire every night to write a letter to his family. With his legs pulled up to his chest and back to the stone fire place, it was easily one of his favorite places to be. Fireplaces were common in all houses, so it was easy to pretend he was sitting in his own living room. Even the bedlam of his siblings was there, surprisingly rivaled by the noise of the area surrounding him.
Maximillian shrugged out of his robes and tugged on his sweater lightly. There was nothing new to report, but he didn't want his family to worry. Maximillian finished with a small report of his latest flying lesson before putting his quill in his bag and tucking the letter in between two pages of his transfiguration book.
Looking up, Maximillian saw one of his new friends walking across the room. With a quick flattening of his hair, he called out, "Danica!"

Dani was coming in from a class, her bag slung over her shoulder. It looked like she had papers in danger of escaping, but that was Dani. Class was over and she was on the move.
Max's voice caught her attention, and she turned around to face him. "Hey, Max!" She didn't even know if he liked his name being shortened, but she did it anyway. She got along with Max better than most kids her age. He had a kind look about him.
She turned her steps and walked towards him, throwing her bag on the floor, finally losing a few sheets from it as she plopped down in the chair near him. "Everything okay?"
