Would you believe it? (Axel)

Vanessa was feeling lousy. The cold air that had picked up was making everything hurt like it did every year. She wanted to go down to the lake to relax but she didn't see how that would only make it worse. She bundled up in comfortable muggle clothes and a big hoodie before wandering downstairs to the school grounds. As she neared the lake, she noticed the sun had come out of the clouds and smiled at the way the sunshine made her skin feel. She sat down on a boulder by the waters edge and stared out. She thought about Axel and only wondered about what would happen between them. She worried that nothing would happen between them and it would just remain a crush, just like it had been with Remus.

Axel was walking from the herbology greenhouses when he saw Vanessa walking toward the lake. "Where is she going?" Axel wondered curiously. He decided to follow her, and they ended up at the lake.

"Aren't you freezing?" Axel asked as he leant against the tree a couple feet behind where Vanessa sat.

Vanessa jumped at the sound of someone's voice and turned around to see Axel. She smiled up at him and said a quiet "Hey" embaressed from jumping. She chuckled and hugged her arms tighter around herself to emphasize.

"Yeah, kind of." She said and shrugged like it was no big deal.

Quickly, Axel shed his outer coat and handed it to Vanessa. "Just 'cause it's march, doesn't mean its warm outside." Axel chuckled, taking a seat beside her. Axel and Vanessa had become very good friends since they first met in the astromony tower one evening, and Axel very much enjoyed having a friend that wasn't Noah or any of his brother's pals.

"So what are you doing?" Axel asked, since classes were done for the day. "Besides turning into a human popsicle that is.

Vanessa smiled and blushed when he gave her his coat. She wrapped it around her arms and frowned. "What about you? You won't get cold?" She teased and watched as he sat. She hugged her legs to her chest and looked at him with a shrug. She chuckled at his popsicle comment.

"Nothin' really. I got bored and thought I'd take a walk. I didn't realize how cold it would be." She added with a frown.

"No, I don't get very cold." Axel said. "Any way I'm wearing a sweater anyway," he tugged at the deep green sweater he was wearing and smiled. Axel hugged his knees to his chest like Vanessa was, keeping him warmer.

"Yea, even if it's March, it's still freezing cold," Axel said. "So you just decided to take a walk?" he asked.

"Well so am I, and I'm still freezing." She said and nudged him with her shoulder. She smiled at him then layed her head on his shoulder. "Yes, I decided to take a walk. I'm blonde and I'm stupid." She said with a chuckle.

She tilted her head to look up at him. "But you put up with me anyways and I thank you for that." She grinned at him before looking back out at the water. "So, how have you been?"

"You're not stupid cause you're blonde," Axel said tugging his own blonde hair. "In fact, you're not stupid at all Vanessa," Axel perfered that people didn't down themselves. His dad used to do that all the time, put him and his bother and mother down. Axel still had a huge lack of confidence, even after his father's death.

He grinned at Vanessa. "I'm doing okay," he said. He didn't really go home on weekends anymore, and he and Noah weren't speaking, and his father had died a few months ago... "Yea, not bad." he said. "How about you?" he asked.
