"You have a very nice laugh," June said, tilting her head when he laughed at her comment. "It's kind of soothing, actually."
Unlike Brady, June was the kind of girl who'd be at a club on a Saturday night.... if only Talon liked to go. She wasn't the best dancer in the world, but she liked to dance, and she loved being around people. It didn't really matter what she did or where she was, she just liked to do things. That was why she had to convince herself most days that she was happy in her job and, if she were honest, with Talon.
"Me too. I get really hard to deal with when I haven't had coffee... like, a right arse, you know? I'm too grumpy for my own good, and I'm certainly not a morning person."

A nice laugh? Brady smiled as a response to the compliment. "Never heard that before, but thank you. You have a nice laugh too." He let the compliment run off like it was just a statement.
"I know exactly what you mean." Brady smiled and then took a drink of his coffee. "I'm pretty grumpy too, but Tom keeps me going every morning. It never fails that I have at least one cup of coffee in mornings."

"You're lying. I have a loud, obnoxious laugh." June shrugged, still smiling. "But I've embraced it, and everyone else can just deal with it."
Her coffee was already half gone, and she knew she'd get a refill before they left. "I usually just have the Ministry's coffee. I really should get a coffee maker at home, but..." She trailed off and shrugged again. Talon didn't like the smell of coffee so early in the morning. It was just easier to keep him happy and get the horrible coffee at the Ministry. "I guess I've never had the time to go out and buy one," she lied.

"I wouldn't lie to you," Brady said with a smile. "You're laugh is not obnoxious, maybe it is a little loud, but that's okay."
"The Ministry's coffee?" A look a disgust crossed his face. "I don't see how you can stand to drink that stuff." He shook his head. "That's why I come here every morning before work." Brady looked down to his coffee cup then took a sip from it. At the mention of not really ever having the time to go get one, Brady have a 'hmm' type of look but nodded. "I can understand that."
Brady pushed his napkin around on the table before looking back at June. "Maybe you should stop by here on your way to work in the morning and grab a cup. It will save you from having to drink all the so called coffee at the Ministry."

June laughed. "You can make any coffee better by putting enough sugar in it," she told him.
When he suggested that she stop by here in the mornings to get her cup, she gave him a contemplative look and a little smile. Was he suggesting that she come so she could see him in the mornings, or was it more innocent?
Either way, she shrugged. "Yeah, maybe. I think the old lady with the hairnet would miss me, though." She smiled wider to show that she was only kidding, and took another sip of her coffee. "Maybe I'll just have someone get me a coffee maker for my birthday."

"I guess," Brady said with a laugh. His suggestion was both. It was an innocent suggestion, but wherever he really wanted to admit it or not, seeing June in the mornings would have been great. Brady wouldn't have complained about that, but he knew that June's boyfriend probably wouldn't have liked the idea that she was out early in the morning. He only thought about that since he saw the way Talon acted.
"Maybe you will get a coffee maker for your birthday," he said with a smile. "When is your birthday?"

(I cant remember when I said her birthday was...)
At his question, June actually blushed a little, and she smiled. "Today, actually, is my birthday," she told him, and she knew fully well that she wasn't getting a coffee maker. She almost wondered if Talon even remembered that today was her birthday, but then she felt bad for thinking that way and decided that surely, he had something planned for her.
"And what am I doing to celebrate but working?" She added with a laugh. "Working and having coffee with you."

"Today hm," he repeated with a smile on his face. Brady knew that he would have enough time to go out and get her something before either one of them left today to go home after work. That something would be a coffee maker. Brady thought that Talon might have a problem with June getting a present from him, but Brady found himself not caring.
"Well, happy birthday June." His smile grew wider. "And I do have to say, having coffee with me is a good way to spend your birthday, mainly because you're not working." Brady laughed. That was the first time he had ever made a comment like that about himself. Of course, he was only joking. "Once we finish here, we can go get real food, not the stuff that they try to pass off as food at the Ministry."

"Thank you, Brady," June replied, taking another sip of her coffee. She certainly had not told him that it was her birthday so that he would get her anything; if he hadn't asked when her birthday was, she wouldn't have even told him. She would be surprised if he got her anything, anyway. They were still practically strangers. Right?
"No, it's good because it means I'm spending time with someone who can make me laugh. That's important, you know," she said seriously, and then she was smiling again. "You mean, no birthday mystery meat?" She playfully asked, laughing as she thought about it. The Ministry's cafeteria was notoriously bad among all of its employees. "Does that mean you're taking me out for lunch?" she teased.

"Can't say that I would want to eat the birthday mystery meat, as delicious as that sounds," he joked. "And that does mean I'm taking you out for lunch. After all, we have to have something good on your birthday. I'll just have to think of a place between now and the time I finish my coffee, unless of course you have a good place in mind."
Brady smiled. Wherever they went, he would make sure that he would tell them that it was her birthday. He had always wanted to do that, but he was always by himself and it would have been dumb had he done it for himself.

"Hey, put a candle in it, and it automatically tastes better," June replied, jokingly. "And I'm actually curious why you'll think of to take me, so it's up to you."
She realized that they hadn't known each other for very long, but she felt drawn to Brady and she thought he was a sweet guy. He seemed like they could make a pretty close friend, regardless of whether or not Talon approved.
"Can you tell them it's my birthday? I've always wanted to do that, but I've always been with Talon and he never cared much for the attention."

"So that means I have to think really hard between now and then," he said trying to get his mind turning with ideas of places to go. There were all sorts of places to chose from, but one place was popping up in his mind. It wasn't extremely fancy, nor was it really plain. It was one of those decent sit down restaurants that you could order almost anything.
Brady gave her a look, saying that she read his mind. "I don't like that much attention, but since it is your birthday, I don't mind it. I'm willing to bend for such occasions." He smiled. Attention wasn't something he craved, but what was life without stepping outside your comfort zone every once in awhile? Brady found that he was didn't mind stepping out of his comfort zone, unlike he had been before.

"I'm sure you'll come up with a perfectly suitable place," June assured him with a bright nod. Really, she barely knew Brady and shouldn't let him feel obligated to take her out for her birthday, but she adored him. He offered, anyway, and June really needed something to keep her mind off of her arguement with Talon from the day before.
"Well... we don't have to tell them if you don't want to," she said quickly. "It's embarassing, anyway. They'll just sing at us and get the whole place involved. My cousin- his name's Al- he got a restaurant to do it for me when I was little. There was a lot of free ice cream involved, too." She was smiling as she said this, shrugging. "Maybe we'll do it for your birthday instead."

Brady shook his head. “It’s your birthday and I’ve always wanted to tell them that it was someone’s birthday. I can handle the slightly embarrassment by the singing.” He gave her a boyish grin. “Besides, if there is free ice cream, I can take it.”
He had a feeling that Talon didn’t really bend out of his comfort zone to make June happy or make her laugh, especially for her birthday. Even though Brady hadn’t known June that long and he didn’t know her that well, he did want her to at least have a decent birthday and he wanted her to laugh and smile.

June smiled. Though she didn't know it, he guessed correctly that Talon would never really go out of his comfort zone for her. She was used to it and she didn't really even think about it, but June had very few boundaries to her own comfort zone, and often held back for her boyfriend.
The idea of getting to do this with Brady, now, was enough to make her smile a little.
"Thank you, Brady," she told him, her voice softer and more serious. "Really... I know I don't know you that well, and this is... this is very sweet of you."

"It's what friends do," he said smiling. They were more or less friends now because as June said they weren't strangers anymore. "And you don't have to thank me. It's your birthday so it should be a special day." Never had Brady done anything for anyone other than his parents for their birthday. He remembered as a child making birthday cards for his parents. They always cherished whatever he did.
Brady's face showed no emotion when his brain started thinking about his parents. After his father's death his mother had tried real hard to make Brady's birthday a happy day. He went along with it just to make her happy and see her smile. However, a few years after his father's death, there was no more making his mother smile because she joined his father, wherever he was.
Since then, Brady hadn't done a thing for his birthday, nor anyone else's. Now, he actually wanted to do something for June since it was her birthday. He wanted to see her smile, laugh, and just be happy. Brady put another smile back on his face. "And since it is your birthday, as soon as you're finished with your coffee, we should probably head over to the restaurant before it gets too full. Then after that, we have one more stop to make."

June, unaware of the thoughts going through his head, smiled, her hands wrapped around her coffee mug. She hadn't seen anyone get this into her birthday in a long time. Al used to get excited about it when she was little, and her parents used to hate how worked up he got her. She adored him for a reason, after all.
And it somehow made her fight with Talon the day before sort of disappear. She wasn't even thinking about him anymore, or how angry she was about things. Brady wouldn't know it, but she felt like she owed him for this.
"Oh, okay okay. Are you rushing me? Sheesh." She smiled and took another sip from her coffee. "I'm almost done anyway. Where's the other stop we have to make?"
Her natural curiosity took over, and she peered at him over her cup, fully expecting that he would (at least eventually) tell her.

That was Brady's goal, to make June not think about Talon. He wanted her just to have fun without having to worry about him.
"I'm not rushing you, take your time. We don't have to run there or anything. I'm not going to tell you where we're going other than the resturant. It's a surprise and we're going to keep it that way until after we eat." Brady gave her a smile. "And just to let you know, you can't get it out of me. I'm extremely good at keeping secrets."

"No, you can't do that. You have to tell me where we're going. I'll die of curiosity. And you can't let me die on my birthday, can you?" June laughed lightly and leaned her arms on the table. "You can always share secrets with me, anyway." June, of course, was terrible at keeping secrets, and her natural curiosity made it so that she couldn't stand when secrets were kept from her.
She sat up straighter, shrugging. "Anyway, I'm done with my coffee. The rest is all up to you, now."

"You won't die from boredom, I promise." Brady smiled. "Besides it would become boring if you knew where else we were going." He leaned forward a little resting on his elbows. "I know that you can share secrets but this one has to be a surprise. Besides I already let you know that we were going for lunch since it is your birthday."
He gave her a mysterious look then he gave a small laugh. "Someone is impatient," teased Brady. "We can make our way to the restaurant now if you're starving." He stood up and pushed his chair back under, waiting for June to stand up.
