Character Name: Rita Skeeter
Year: 7th
Preferred House: Slytherin
Strengths: She is very ambitious and willing to ‘go the extra mile’ for a good bit of gossip or a story. She is an excellent writer and reporter even at this age and her passion for it only grows. She is naturally skilled in charms and potions, including some self learned hexes, jinxes and curses which were handy on occasion in her field of interest… investigative reporting. She does not like to let things get in her way, and if she wants something she’s not afraid to go after it. Being a pure-blood IS a strength. She’s not afraid to bend the truth or avoid getting mired in facts, which is a strength for a true reporter.
Weaknesses: She is not the brightest student of her age, but would rather apply her time in class watching other students and starting rumors than actually learning much from the lessons in which did not interest her. Subjects like Herbology or muggle studies have absolutely no interest for her. She doesn’t have any close friends but is acquaintances with many, though she does tend to align herself with what seems like the winning side of an issue and holds no strong allegiances to any one thing, ideal or person but herself and the power of words.
Personality: Rita is an unregistered Animagus who uses her form of a beetle to slip around unnoticed and spy on people to obtain fodder for her articles. She could be described as “enchantingly nasty” by some. Not that she cares, after all… the real truth is in the written words… it’s not her fault if she nudges them a little for a more dramatic effect. The world deserved to know the truth despite what may not be obvious to others and she would find those flaws. She wasn’t adverse being devious to get what she wants, and quite often uses her charm to get her way. But when that fails there are always other methods… she had her flaws though she loathed admitting any, and that meant others obviously did too. She considers herself a “neutral party” to the goings on of other wizards, someone out to watch others regardless of their good or bad intentions. The power to move minds and influence opinions with the written word is her most important draw to power and influence in the wizarding world in her mind.
Brief History: Her mother died durring her birth and her father, Viricus Skeeter, had raised her. He was a person who wrote propaganda for the ministry and had spent many hours ignoring her as a child while he was off writing ideas. He had always seemed powerful to her with a whisper in the ear of several influential wizarding families of the time. Though he was more likely to manipulate people directly rather than the more feminine charms that a subtle woman might use. Rita learned by watching her father at a young age but as she grew older she could see his folly of direct interfearance in other's lives.
She had received her letter to Hogwarts at the age of 11 and almost instantly took wing to the fact that she had her own independence now. She passed her classes well enough but was not outstanding in them other than charms and potions. Now at 17, she was ready to begin working at the Daily Prophet.

She is attractive with a heavy jaw and large, masculine hands with claw-like, painted fingernails whose color changes often though she does like when they are blood red best. She uses beauty charms regularly to fix up her hair and already wears quite a bit of wizard-charmed makeup including artificially darkened eyebrows. She also carries around her acid green quick-quotes quill she received a year ago after ordering it specially made in her favorite color.
