Character Name: Etienne
Year: Sixth Year
Preferred House: Completely up to you. I want to see where you'll put me!
Strengths: Ettie's pretty fair at academics and sports, if you're talking about school. Personally, though, Etienne has a big heart and is loyal to his friends. He's a naturally curious and clever boy, and he tends to strive for perfection.
Weaknesses: Ettie can be really judgemental sometimes, but he makes sure to keep his coments to himself. Academically, however, Etienne is dreadful at Herbology and History of Magic... he's no good at remembering specifics if there's little point behind it. Give him an interesting speel, though, and he'll get it in a moment.
Personality: Ettie is pretty sharp, keeping his eyes and ears open for gossip. He loves to follow whatever interesting stories are floating around the castle. He's not too talkitive, though. He's open and inviting... if not easily ticked off and able to hold a grudge. Etienne's just the average teenager.
Brief History: Etienne comes from a "new" wizarding family. Both of his parents are muggle-born but went to Hogwarts, and still cling a bit to their old ways. There is little magic at the Hartwell house, his parents preferring to use their wands liberally, and solve problems the old fashioned way. Radically different from his parents, Ettie uses magic whenever he gets the chance.
Coming to Diagon Alley for the first time, Etienne was shocked to see how much magic he had been missing out on. He could never really forgive his parents for keeping all this from him, but it was idle threat at best, as the force of the magic took hold on him. Rushing around from shop to shop, he had been disappointed to hear time and again that he had to have his cousin's old robes and spell books. Having little money obviously sis not allow Ettie much to "play" with. The Hartwells weren't poor, just cautious, but they managed. Etienne rather resented it.
Description:
Etienne is rather unspectacular looking. Not to say he's ugly, that is, just plain. His deep red hair is stlyed to the side, swept into his eyes. A long, slender nose is plain, as are most of the rest of his facial features, including his brown eyes. Rather unremarkable, excepting that fact that his lashes are long, dark, and somewhat girly. He's of shortish height and normal build, he doesn't work out (at all... really) but he's not a couch-potato. He's normal, if maybe on the thinnish side.
RP Sample:
Liam had arrived before everyone else did, and was busy making room in the cluttered classroom when Hailey walked in. He was about to say hello when he noticed her somewhat depressed manner. He frowned and walked over to her.
He was about to scan her mind, so eager was he to know what had her so glum. But, he scolded himself, he and Hailey had agreed to not use their gifts on one another, so he contented himself with sitting next to her. He reached out and gently shook her shoulder, getting her attention. "Hailey, what's wrong...?" He wanted to help; he wasn't sure how. How did normal people ever get along without Seeing? He couldn't stand not knowing, but he had promised Hailey, and he wasn't about to go back on his word.
"You can talk to me," he assured her, thinking briefly of their in depth talks in the common room, about being gifted, about changing the world, about trivial things. Liam looked at her throught his navy eyes and smiled sadly. "This must not be a fun time for you," he said softly, looking at the hem of his robes. He pulled a loose thread and smirked. "Believe me, I'm getting the same thing. But then, you know..." He paused, and covered his mouth with his fingertips, thinking. "We don't have to be here. It's not our fight. Professor Firenze said specifically that we should be impartial, and here we are. We're right in the middle of a fight that isn't ours. Do you remember what he said? 'Old enemies have found new life in their children.'" He paused again, not really knowing how to say what he was thinking. "...It's... it's not us. We're not... It's not our fight," he ended up saying again, maybe a little exasperated at his sudden lack communication.
Liam looked up when he heard voices outside the door. He became quiet, not saying another word. But he noticed that this whole time, he had had a nagging feeling about Hailey, like he was losing her. It was like... she had somehow betrayed their friendship... but he wasn't sure how. All he knew was that the entire time she was here, he hadn't been able to look her in the eye.
