Daniel had spent what felt like days correcting essays for class. He needed a break. So Friday night he changed into more comfortable clothes and made his way to the club in Hogsmeade. He'd been there a couple of times since starting work at Hogwarts, and he never really ran into students or other people he knew, and usually, that was fine with Daniel. Sometimes he just needed to get away from his office at Hogwarts and get out for a bit.
He walked to the bar and smiled at the bartender. "Butterbeer please," he said. He never really drank alchol, even in his traveling, he never had a need to. Daniel paid for his drink and leaned against the bar, nodding his head to the music that played.

Ariel walked into the Spellbound, tired of job hunting for the day. She had been looking for a while, but it seems that no one was hiring; or at least no one wanted to hire her.
She sat at the bar, feeling now was a good time for a firewhisky. She ordered it and looked over to a guy beside her. She smiled at him; she decided right away that he was cute, and it wouldn't hurt her any to try and flirt with him. She needed to talk to people that weren't looking over her resume with her.
"Hey," She said politely. She smacked herself in her mind; she usually started off stronger in conversations, but it seemed she forgot how to talk to people who weren't so official as the bosses she had been dealing with were.

Daniel sipped at his drink and couldn't help but notice the blonde that took a seat beside him. She smile at him and he smiled back. She ws pretty. So as to not look ike a creep, he turned his head back to the dance floor fo a moment until he heard her address him.
"Hey," Daniel replied, not knowing what else to say. He took a seat beide her and placed his butterbeer on the counter. "Come here ofen?" he asked. Daniel mentall kicked himself in the shins. Geez what a stupid question.

Ariel laughed a little, not because it was a stupid thing to say, but because she was thinking of saying the same thing to him. She took a sip of her drink before nodding at him, her smile never leaving her face.
"Yeah, once or twice a day," She said, "I'm unemployed right now, so I've got nothing better to do than sit around drinking firewhiskies all day." She said, laughing slightly at her own joke. She knew it was stupid, but it was partly the truth. Besides talking to her mother and job hunting, she didn't really have anything else to do.
"I haven't seen you around before. What is it that you do?" She asked. She was feeling very blunt tonight, which is why she had mentioned her unemployment and asking his profession right off the bat. She normally wasn't like this, but she was in a pretty good mood, considering the horrible day she had. 'Must be the drink,' she thought.

Daniel chuckled as she laughed and smiled at her. "I'm a teacher at the school. Well, a substitute, but no one really knows where the actual teacher is right now..." Daniel said, rambling. "I teach muggle studies." he said, stopping his ramble. Gee, muggle studies, what a boring subject to teach. Course, Daniel loved it, but it would have been more impressive to say he taught charms, or potions, or even defence against the dark arts.
"I'm Daniel," Daniel said, putting down his butterbeer and stretchign his hand toward her.

Ariel smiled as she took his hand. "I'm Ariel," she said, and took a sip of her firewhisky before continuing. "I've always been interested in muggles, really, just don't tell my mom. She's pureblood, as was my father, and they don't really like muggles all that much." She said with a laugh. She thought it was stupid that wizards and muggles couldn't get along, but she wasn't ready to change the world yet. She had a life to live, and she wasn't going to get killed for protesting something that will probably never change.
"I don't know if I could do it, being around kids all day. I couldn't handle it. Although, it does sound like an adventure." she said with a smile.

"Ariel," Daniel said, putting the name to memory.
"The kids aren't that bad honestly," Daniel said. "Most of them are actually pretty decent kids." he supposed that was because his class was an elective class, so most of the kids that took his class obviously elected[/] to take it.
"You're right though, it is an adventure, teaching." He nodded. Much different than his time after graduation when he traveled the world.

Ariel smiled and took a sip of her drink before talking again. "I don't really like kids. I didn't grow up around many, I guess that's why. Maybe if I had my own, it'd be different..." She looked away from Daniel, deciding he was too cute to talk to about things like this now. She was open to talk about anything, really, with people she just met, but family was one thing she rarely mentioned. She blamed her father for that.
"So, other than teaching, what is it you like to do?" Ariel asked, pushing her firewhisky towards the bartender; she blamed the lameness of her questions on the drink, and decided not to take anymore of it.

"Um..." Daniel thought. "Well lets see, I like to travel," Daniel said. "After graduationg, i spent a few years traveling around the world, everywhere from the Americas to Asia to Africa and Europe..." He smiled.
"What about you?" Daniel asked, done with being in the spotlight for the moment. "What do you like to do Ariel?"

Ariel thought for a moment, unsure what to say. She didn't get out much, and nothing she said would have sounded as exciting as seeing other places; she figured he had good stories to tell, whereas Ariel could only tell of London.
"Aside from job hunting," she paused to add a chuckle in, "I talk to my mom a lot. My dad left when I was younger, so I'm all she has. I read a lot. If there's a book in front of me and I like it, I'll read it." She replied. "I read a lot of muggle books, though. They interest me a lot."

"Yea, to be honest, I don't get out very much since I started teaching," Daniel admitted, a slight blush creeping on his face.
"That's good you talk to your mum," Daniel said. He didn't really talk to his parents much, just around holidays and birthdays and things like that. With Daniel being a wizard and his parents being muggle, they seemed to have grown apart from each other.
"I like to read too," Daniel said, almost laughing at how strange that sounded. Oh, you like to read, me too! You like magic, me too! It just sounded a little off. "What are you reading now?"

Ariel thought, trying to decide what book to tell him she was reading now. She usually read two or three at a time, being able to keep up with the different plots, as surprizing as that sounded. She decided to go with the more impressive of the two.
"I'm almost done Les Miserables, by Victor Hugo. It's amazing, so powerful, and I won't lie, I've cried a couple of times," she said, adding in a nervous laugh, not knowing why she said that. A lot of people thought she was weird crying over books, over characters that never exsisted, but she thought nothing of it. She had been doing it since she was a kid. "Have you ever read it?" She added.

Daniel shook his head. "I haven't," Daniel admitted. "What's it about?" He asked curiously. Books facinated him, all books. They were his mostly companions while he traveled, and Daniel had learned several languages jsut so he could buy new books in foreign countries. He smiled at Ariel when she admitted to crying over Les Miserables. He dodn't think it was wierd, books were meant to pull out strong emotions.
While they were talking, Daniel had gotten another butterbeer and was sipping casually and smileing genuinely.

Ariel was taken back when he said he never read it, since it had become her favorite book by page two-hundred. "Well, it's a long story, but it's pretty much about this man, Jean, who stole bread to feed his sister and her children, and he got nineteen years for it. He gets released and tried to make his life better, raising the daughter of a woman he knew that died. She grows up, and falls in love with a man who is fighting in the revolution. It takes place in 1800s France. Eventually, it moves to the peasant revolt in the 1830s, and that's where I am now. It's going to get really emotional, though, I've read enough books to be able to tell it will." She said, trying to find out a way to summarize the plot without ranting about it for hours.
"I'll just stop there, I could go on for hours about that book! Have you read anything good recently?" She asked, happy she found someone that liked books. A lot of her friends didn't read much, and if they did, they more than likely weren't muggle books.

The way Ariel described the book she was reading was enticing, and Daniel found himself leaning in to hear more over the music from the club. He smiled quietly. What kind of person gets out of his office for just enough time to go to a club, meet a girl, and then talk about books.
Dodn't really stop him, he just thought it was funny. "Well, I haven't had a lot of leasure reading time," Daniel admitted. "But I'm having my class read the Wizard of Oz, so I'm re-reading it for fun, its one of my favorites." Daniel smiled.

Ariel smiled when he mentioned he was re-reading a book when he didn't need to. She thought she was the only one who did that, which is why more than half of her book collection needed to be replaced.
"I've never read the book, but I've seen the movie. It was...interesting. I saw it when I was a kid, and I was in love with it then. Is the book good?" She asked, and caught what she had said. "Well, no, I guess it would be good if you're reading it again!" She laughed.

"I'm using it to teach the kids how muggles have this stereotypical view of magic like most of us have this steroetypical view of muggles," he shrugged. "Or something like that, I truely do love the book, though. I highly recommend it." Daniel smiled. "Especially since you've seen the movie; the book is always better," he chuckled.
(sorry that was short)

Ariel couldn't help but smile when he mentioned what he was using it for. She know knew the reason she was never a teacher-she didn't think of things like that. "I'll have to find a copy of it once I'm done my book, then, even though I can handle more that one book at a time," She said. She ordered a butterbeer and turned back to Daniel while she waited.
"And I agree with you; I've seen some movies after reading the books, and I hated the movie! I guess they can't fit everything in, but if the thing you leave out alters the plot even a little...it makes me so mad!" She said, and laughed, stopping herself before she went into a long rant of all the things she hated, beacause with Ariel, she would go into that.
(It's alright! Don't worry about it!)

"I hate it when they remake books into movies too. It can just be so agrivating," Daniel agreed. Sometimes, it would make the books really popular, but that bugged Daniel too, who thought that they could be popular on their own, without Hollywood's help.
They had both ordered another round of drinks, talking about books at the bar of a night club. What a strange pair of people. "So when you came here, I bet you didn't expect to be talking about books at the bar did you?" he asked, drinking his butterbeer and smiling at Ariel.

Ariel smiled back at Daniel and took a sip of her butterbeer before replying. "No, I was expecting to come here, down a firewhisky or two, then go back to my apartment and have my mother tell me how much of a failure I am because I don't have a job," She said, and quickly thought the bad thoughts of her mother out of her head. Ariel and her mom got along pretty well, it was just when Ariel brought up her jobless state, as well as her single-ness, her mother got on her back for it.
"Honestly, it's been a while since I've talked about books with anyone. None of my friends are really the reading type--at least not muggle books." She said. "I normally don't talk to people at bars either, but you're fun to talk to. I'm glad I did!"
