Vixie was indulging in one of her guilty pleasures again. Hidden in quite a dark corner of the library, her nose was planted firmly in a book about Greek Mythology. She simply found the fact that at one point Muggles would worship such crazy gods, and they had one for everything!
This had been going on for years, but the current session had only been going on for about an hour. The footsteps approaching did not throw her off at all. In fact, she never even heard them. She knew that most Slytherin's would disapprove of her interest in such a thing but she didn't care. She just hoped they wouldn't give her too much grief over it.
A particulary entry caught her attention and without realizing it, Vixie leaned in closer to the book to really study the paragraph she was on. . .

Xavier was no ordinary Slytherin. Despite the influence of the Scotts name, his quiet nature--and the fact that he had one sibling in each house--made him a bit of an oddball. There was also the fact that he usually had his nose buried in a book. He also read strange books for a wizard--mostly muggle books, on all kinds of topics. He had finished reading about psychology and was now reading a book by a man called Charles Darwin. It was all about the origin of life and evolution, and he frankly found it fascinating. It made him wonder if some of the same principles could apply to the evolution of magical abilities through the years. It could probably also help explain how muggleborns could get their abilities.
It was controversial, to say the least, and that was why it fascinated Xavier. He never wanted to settle for the easy, convenient answers to anything... he wanted to explore all options and possibilities and make up his own mind.
He wandered to the back of the library, still reading his book. He also didn't like to be caught with his "odd" reading material, and often went to great pains to hide what he was reading. Right now, he just wanted to sit in the back of the library and read in private. It wasn't until he slipped into a chair that he realized someone was already sitting at the table.

Vixie had been steadily scratching notes onto her parchment without looking up when she heard a chair pull out from the very table she was sitting at and immediately attempted to hide her Mythology book. It was Slytherin. When she looked closely she realized that this was one of the Slytherin's that didn't have much to do with the rest of the house it seemed like. An oddity among oddities really.
"Uh, hello," she said, her tone giving off her awkward emotional state clearly. She looked closely at the book he had in his hands and smiled. The Darwin Theory. That was one she had read a couple of times. Not really enough to make her keep studying it, but she put her amount of time in on it sure enough.
"That's a good one there," she said, pointing and smiling at his book. She for some reason felt safe offering up the cover of hers for him to see.

Too late, Xavier tried to hide his book. At first he expected the girl to make some kind of snide comment, but she surprised him by telling him that it was good. His eyes widenened and he looked at her, silently taking note of the book she was reading. Greek mythology... Interesting...
"You've... you've read it?" he said. "It's pretty interesting. Not many wizards read stuff like this, though... I'm surprised you've read it."

Vixie laughed at his surprised look and shook her head. "You're right, it should be surprising, but it's pretty surprising to see someone else in my house reading material that has anything to do with muggles unless it would be killing or torturing them to death," she said with a shrug of her shoulders.
"I guess we're the misfits of the misfits. Kind of proper for me though, considering my family. They are all nut cases," she offered, trying to make the awkward silence pass.
"So, I'm Vixie," she said, extending her hand to him, hoping he would take it.

Xavier laughed. "Yeah, tell me about it. My family's utterly mad. I have four older siblings, one in each house. The oldest one graduated, but he was a Slytherin like me."
He readily accepted her hand, giving a quick but firm handshake. His father had always taught him that a firm handshake was a mark of a strong personality. You could never make a good impression with a weak handshake.
"Nice to meet you, Vixie. I'm Xavier Scotts. I think I've heard of your family."
