Paige was positively livid. She was not used to being treated in such a manner, and she found it intolerable. She was sitting in a holding cell at Azkaban Prison with August, who was still clutching his camera. While he seemed relatively calm about the situation, Paige couldn't stop pacing.
"Just who does she think she is, anyway?" she was ranting. "I mean, really, we have rights. If there's some psycho out there mutilating women, the public ought to know about it, right? That's all we were trying to do, why can't she understand that? If she would have just let us stand back and keep quiet, I could have talked to Sean, and left her out of it entirely. But no, she waltzes over from the States and automatically starts acting like she owns the place...."
She turned to August. "I don't understand how you can be so calm. Our rights are being trampled, and you're just sitting there."

August was leaning against the wall of the little holding cell they were in. His head was slightly tilted back, and he honestly thought the whole situation was kind of amusing. Getting angry about it wasn't going to do anything to help them.
When she turned her ire on him, he just shrugged, and even that movement was half hearted. "Because I'm tired," he told her in all honesty. "And this is hardly the first time I've landed myself in prison for the night. Just relax, Paige. We sent Noelle an owl... we'll be out of here in an hour."
Their rights were hardly being trampled, but he didn't bother to point this out to Paige. She was too angry with the whole thing, and arguing wasn't going to help, either.

Paige let out an exasperated huff, then sat down on the creaky mattress. She realized she should have been calmer about this... after all, this was just a holding cell. They were being guarded by people, and not dementors. But it was dirty, and it smelled funny, and she was pretty sure there were rats scurrying behind the walls. And even though the dementors weren't guarding them, they still created a feeling of hopeless desperation that hung over the island prison.
"This sucks," she said angrily.

"What sucks," Noelle interjected, coming around the corner with a guard trailing behind her, "Is being woken up by an annoying owl from Azkaban telling you that two of your employees are in jail. What did you two do?"
She had her hand on her hip, but she wasn't really angry. She leveled a particularly narrow-eyed look on August, whom she'd bailed from jail more than once before. Hey, at least he got the pictures for the story.
She lifted her hands, and two cups of coffee appeared, which she handed the both of them through the bars. "Let them out," she said, talking to the guard behind her. "You're lucky the charges against you didn't stick."

"The charges didn't stick because we didn't actually do anything wrong," Paige declared in a sour tone as she gratefully accepted the cup of coffee from Noelle. "Well, except for not handing over the camera, but she had no right to demand it. And I said we would stand back out of the way, and she was the one who was overly concerned with our actions. If she was distracted from the job, it was because she let herself get distracted."
While she was talking, the guard had opened the cell door, and Paige stepped out of the cell, dusting herself off. "Anyway, thanks for bailing us out, Noelle. Sorry we woke you up. Merlin, I can't get over that self-righteous auror... who does she think she is, anyway?"

"Keeping the camera was not doing something wrong," August defended, and he gave Noelle a look as he took his coffee from her. "Thanks," he added, stepping out of the cell behind Paige.
"She's right though. She was far too concerned with us than she was the body in front of her. The MLE took care of everything while she was having us arrested." He looked up and grinned, far too happy for having just spent a couple hours in Azkaban. "But I imagine all of that will end up in your story, right, Paige?"

Paige took a long drink from her coffee. It was really almost as good as having chocolate to counteract the effect of being close to dementors. Or maybe she just needed the caffeine.
Looking over her shoulder at August, she smirked. "Perhaps... I mean, I do have a duty to state the facts, don't I? It would have been much easier for everyone if she had just ignored us and went about her own business."
She glanced down at her watch. "This little trip to the penalty box has cost me some precious writing time, actually. I wonder if Sean's still up. I was really hoping to get some intel from him for the story."

"Ah yes, the one that was putting his hands all over the body. He'd be a great source of information," August said rather sarcastically, and even Noelle shot him a look. Sarcasm was a little out of character for the nonplussed August.
His eyes narrowed a second later and he turned to Paige. "Something going on between the two of you?" he asked, knowing that Paige had mentioned him before. He wouldn't put it past her to start a relationship with what amounted to a cop, just for the intel she could get on stories. Kind of smart, actually.

Paige shrugged carelessly. "We're just good friends," she said in an angelic tone.
Of course, it was true, and it had really just been a happy accident that she'd met up with him that day at the club. He was a good guy and hadn't made any indication of wanting to be anything other than friends. Besides, she had Austin. Of course, if Sean were to show interest besides friendship, she wouldn't have discouraged it. He was a useful source of information and she'd had relationships with guys for less than that.
"Anyway, so what if he touched the body? That just means he's got some inside knowledge that I couldn't get from anyone else. Except maybe for the coroner, and I draw the line at making friends with ghoulish guys like that...." She shuddered for effect.
"So, like, can we get out of here? This place gives me the creeps." She started for the door.

Noelle watched the two of them interact, soaking up what she could from their conversation. Like August, she wasn't surprised that Paige had gotten cozy with an MLE officer. In fact, she was pleased to know it.
"All I'm saying, for a very angry owl and Salazar-forsaken hours in the morning, you better give me a damn good story," she told Paige, and then turned her attention to August. "And you better have pictures of the officer touching the body. That's another story all on its own. Let's go. I have a naked man at home I'd like to get back to."
She was joking, actually, but standing around in Azkaban for the rest of the morning was not her proverbial cup of tea.

Now reunited with her bag, Paige dug around for a mirror to check her appearance. It was late, but as it was right now, she did not have enough material for a story. She was going to have to see if she could get in touch with Sean, and if not, she would have to head to Spellbound to see if she could get a few quotes. Tonight was sure to be a long night for Paige, and she was angry that she'd had to spend so much of it in jail.
"I'll do my best on the story," she assured Noelle. "I haven't let you down yet, have I?"
She frowned at the mirror once more. She was a wreck, and if she intended to go back out, she had some emergency repairs to make. But this was not the place.
"All right, I'm ready," she said. Looking at August, she added, "I was thinking of heading back over to Spellbound, now that the officials are gone. Are you game?"
