Jason had come to the Black Lake planning on swimming, so he brought his navy blue swimsuit with two thick black stripes and four white stripes. He was wearing a plain orange tee shirt that he threw off once he actually got to the lake. He also took off his vans and socks after his shirt. Jason walked over to the very edge of the water and began to stretch his muscles before taking a swim. It took him awhile to stretch all of his muscles, and then he prepared to go in. He looked around to see who else was there. As he slowly scanned everyone, he didn't recognize anyone as one of his very close friends. He recognized a few people as kids in his year, but he didn't know them very well.

It was unseasonably warm for March, and many of the other kids were out enjoying the weather. But Robin had massive amounts of homework to do. James had distracted her from her work by taking her out exploring the castle, and now she had a lot of catching up to do.
But the idea of being cooped up inside studying while everyone else was outside having fun was more than Robin could bear. So after about ten minutes of staring out the window instead of at her Herbology book, Robin gathered up her books and went outside to get a little fresh air. Maybe it was naive to think that she could accomplish anything while she was out there with everyone else, but she just couldn't keep away.
She was humming softly as she walked out to the lake and found an empty spot near the big tree. She had barely cracked open her book when she looked up and spotted a boy nearby in swimming trunks. Recognizing him as a fellow Hufflepuff, she called out to him. "Don't tell me you're going swimming?" she said.

Jason's eyes continued searching until he saw the third year Hufflepuff, Robin Slater. "Oh, hey." He greeted her, and then went on to answer her question. "Well, it's not cold or anything like it should be, so it's definitely possible to swim. It's very hot for March, you know." That was his argument. He had to agree, it was a little uncomfortable to swim at this time, even in this weather, it was slightly too cold for swimming. But he decided he needed to work out a bit to keep himself looking good, and he was tired of indoor workouts. He could have chosen to work out by running and whatnot, but he had decided that swimming was more fun. "Do you want to join me? The water isn't as cold as you think. I'm not crazy."

Robin giggled and shook her head. "No, thanks," she said. "I'm a girl... I'm always cold. I think it's chilly out right now." She gave a shiver for dramatic effect.
It was probably close to 75 degrees out, which was highly unusual for this time of year. But there was a slight breeze blowing, and it was fairly cool in the shade, where she was sitting.
"Besides, I have a lot of studying to do. I really should be doing it inside, but I couldn't stand to be cooped up in that musty old tower any longer."

"Okay, whatever." He replied, not expecting her to go on, but she did. He walked over as she spoke, getting into the conversation and ignoring his original reason why he was down here. Swimming could wait for later, but Robin might be too busy to chat later. He listened as she spoke. "Yeah, I think I might be somewhat claustrophobic. I don't enjoy being crammed into tight spaces, but I do like to be around people. But it is a nice day, and that's rare for this time of the year. We shouldn't take it for granted, but use it while we have it, don't ya think?"

Robin nodded. "I agree. I wish I didn't have to work at all today. But I'm kind of behind in my work, because my boyfriend distracted me. I mean... well, I think he's my boyfriend. We haven't actually said the word yet or anything, but we've gone out a few times, and we spend a lot of time together...."
She stopped talking and let out a little laugh. "I'm sorry, you didn't really need to hear any of that. Sometimes I just kind of tend to run off at the mouth."

Jason shrugged, not really caring about what she had revealed to him. "Whatever, it doesn't really matter." He knew that plenty of girls were going out with other guys, and he knew that he could do nothing about it, although he would rather be the complete center of attention. He knew that you can't always get what you want. "So..." He tried to continue the conversation. Where Robin had stopped talking seemed like a good place to end at, but Jason definitely needed his social time, so he didn't want this conversation to end. If he didn't go on, she might just walk away and he'd have to find someone else to talk to. "What do you like to do in your spare time during winter?"

Robin shrugged. Jason seemed like a nice enough guy, and she wondered why she had never really bothered to talk to him before. "Oh, mostly I like to read," she replied. "It's sort of a boring answer, I guess, but I like to read. It's sort of a way to experience things you never would get to do otherwise. Do you do much reading?"
Almost without thinking, she closed her Herbology book and looked at him a little more carefully. Maybe they would have nothing in common, or maybe they would find they had a lot in common and they'd be good friends. Robin was always open to new experiences and talking to new people.
