Sheena carried a handful of books with her as she walked through the courtyard between classes. But, unlike the text books that were expected to be carried by the average third year Ravenclaw, she had a bunch of different novels to read that she had actully been reading over doing her school work, and now she was paying the price, trying to catch up in her grades.
Of course, her lack of studying could also have something to do with the on-and-off death of her eldest cousin Roland, who just recently came back to life.
With her thoughts all over the place, Sheena wasn't watching where she was going. One minute, she was walking and reminicing about the day they learned that Roland was alive, the next, Sheen was on the ground, her books and things sprawled everywhere, and she looked up to see that she had run into someone. "I'm sorry," she said as she tried to pick up her things.

Xavier had his nose buried in a book so often that some people truly thought he should have been a Ravenclaw. But Xavier read for a reason. He didn't read fiction books, and he didn't actually read magic books, either. What he liked to read were non-fiction books about the muggle world--medicine, psychology, and history. It all fascinated him. He did not generally admit this fondness to his family, of course. Gwen knew about it, and possibly Justin. But since he refused to talk to Thane or Timmy, he had never told them of his interest in these things.
What he was doing, without realizing it, was gathering knowledge of different worlds and cultures. This would benefit him later, when it came time to decide what he wanted to do in life. It would also help him to make his decision about which side he wanted to choose--light or dark. Would he side with the death eaters, or with the "good" side? As of now, Xavier didn't know. But the more he learned, the closer he would come to making a decision.
Unfortunately, with his nose so often buried in books, he had an unfortunate tendency toward clumsiness. He just didn't watch where he was going. So when he came across a girl who was similarly lost behind a book and not watching where she was going, it was inevitable that they would collide.
Xavier hit the ground, and his book on the theories of Sigmund Freud went skidding across the courtyard. "Ooof!" he gasped.
He looked at her, her book having gone flying with the impact. She looked as stunned as he felt, and he couldn't help it. He burst out laughing.

The other boy's laughter was contagious and as Sheena picked up her books, she began to giggle. The giggling grew until she too was laughing as hard as he was. She had to admit, it was a little funny.
"Sheena," she introduced herself. "Sheena Ferrera," She smiled, still giggling a little. "I'd ask if you were okay, but I'm sure the laughter answers that for me." she smiled.

Xavier wiped tears of laughter from his eyes and studied the girl in front of him. She was cute, and he'd probably seen her around a few times before. When he wasn't reading, he was observing; just taking in the sights of people and things going on around him.
"Xavier Scotts," he replied. "Nice to... er... meet you, Sheena."
Ferrera. That name rang a bell. He felt like he'd been hearing it quite a bit lately. It took him a second, but his memory came back in a flash, as he remembered a series of headlines. "Are you related to that Auror who died and came back?"

"You too Xavier," She hadn't really heard of him much. She knew of his siblings, Gwen, Tim, Thane, and then Xavier, the 4 siblings in 4 houses.
"Yup, that's my cousin Roland," Shenna said. "Ill have to remember to thank him for giving us that reputation." She laughed.

Xavier grinned. "Well, we've all got to have some kind of reputation, don't we?" he said. "At least yours is cool. I mean, a guy who came back from the dead... that's pretty cool. My only reputation is of being the youngest Scotts... the so-called golden child."
He rolled his eyes to show his disdain for the nickname. "My parents make kind of a big deal over me... It's just because I'm in Slytherin, when my sister's in Gryffindor, and one brother is in Ravenclaw and the other is in Hufflepuff. But we try to pretend Timmy doesn't exist."

"Well, except for Roland, we're all in Ravenclaw," Sheena said. "And then when we graduate Hogwarts, we'll become aurors..." Sheena rolled her eyes. "Funny how life is accidentally mapped out for us, huh?" she chuckled.
"You shouldn't hate your brother just because he's in Hufflepuff," Sheena said. "If I learned anything from my cousin's...um...death-thingy...that family is irreplaceable." She looked around and noticed they were still on the ground from thier collision. "Why are we still sitting on the soaking ground?" She laughed.

Xavier frowned slightly. She had a point, one which he had also learned recently with the death of his aunt Tanya. Still, Xavier had never been able to get along with Timmy, and he really didn't care to.
"I don't hate Timmy because he's a Hufflepuff, I hate him because he's Timmy. Come to think of it, I'm not all that fond of Thane, either. Maybe I'll try a little harder to get along with them, though... I know how it feels to lose someone. My aunt Tanya died in the Hogsmeade attack. And... she wasn't really all that nice most of the time, but she was nice to me."
He smiled slightly, then extended a hand to her. "Yeah, we should probably get up. Did you see where your book went?"

"I'm sorry about your Aunt," Sheena said. It was probably a different pain for him, knowing it wasn't as likely that she would come back from the dead. "That truely was an aweful day."
"I couldn't imagine hating Hayden or Liam," Sheena said. "My brother's." She added for clarification. "My family is too close knit for that."
Sheena looked around and spotted her book under a bench. "There it is," Sheena said. She stood up and walked over to her book, Northanger Abby, and dried it off with a spell and using the same spell on her robes. She tucked her book with the others in her bag before walking back to Xavier and offering her hand to help him up.

Xavier shrugged. No one had specifically told him, but he had a feeling that Tanya had probably not been an innocent victim in the Hogsmeade attack. She had been one of the attackers, and had been killed by an Auror. No one would say this to Xavier, of course. It was just something he suspected from the furtive glances between his parents and Justin, and the accusing look he sometimes saw in Gwen's eyes when she looked at Justin. The story Justin had given about the attack didn't entirely add up, and Xavier, being a silent studier of people, had drawn his own conclusions. What he hadn't decided yet was how he felt about it, if it turned out to be true.
"Yeah, it was an awful day," he agreed simply. "I may not like Timmy or Thane, but I get along pretty well with my sister, Gwen, and my oldest brother, Justin. But it's cool that you're close to your family, and even your cousins like that."
He took her hand and let her help him to his feet, then walked around the courtyard to look for his book. He found it by a small statue that was set in the center of the courtyard, and paused to dust it off before turning back to her.
"Maybe we should go inside where it's safe," he said with a grin.

"Good idea," Sheena said. She quickly checked her robes, making sure she didnt miss any mud on her clothes befor walking with Xavier toward the school. She put her hands in her pockets, realizing for the first time that it was sstill really cold outside.
She didn't want to talk about dead or undead relatives anymore, so Sheena looked around for a new topic before laying eyes on the bookk Xavier picked up. "What'cha reading?" she asked curiously.

Xavier also dusted himself off, and, upon finding a spot of mud on his robes, attempted to charm it off with a cleaning spell. He wasn't especially good at them, but at least it was passable.
He held out his arm for her, attempting to be polite. When she mentioned the book in his hands, he glanced down at it and grinned sheepishly. "Actually, it's a book on psychology. The theories of Sigmund Freud... He was a muggle doctor of psychology. I don't know that I believe all of his theories, but they're interesting to read about, anyway."

"I've never heard of him," Sheena admitted. She hardly read non-fiction books, she much perfered fantacy and fiction. But occasionally, if a topic interested her, she'd read about it. This Freud guy that Xavier was talking about actually sparked her interest a little. "Theories like what?" Sheena asked.

Xavier actually blushed. It was only at that very moment that he realized much of Dr. Freud's theories were not exactly the most appropriate topics of conversation, especially with a member of the opposite sex.
"Er... well, he has this 'iceberg' theory, that says that each person has only a small portion of their personality that shows above the surface, and that most of what makes up a person is hidden below the surface where no one can see it."
That was the only theory of Freud's that he could really discuss with her, and admittedly, it was the most interesting.

Sheena liked that theory. It somewhat reminded her of herself. On the surface, she was different than the Shenna that was inside who wanted more than to follow the legacy of Auror Ferreras. That person was reckless sometimes and disorganized and in Sheena's opinion, a lot more interresting than the surface she showed, who studdied often and was pretty quiet (though not in comparrason to her brothers.)
"Sounds like most of the teenagers here," Sheena said with a smile.

Xavier smiled, glad she actually seemed interested in the theory. It made a lot of sense to him, and he knew it to be true in his case, at least. But he didn't dare think himself so unique that such a concept could only apply to him. He suspected it was true of most people, if not all of them. There were certainly some people that he found it hard to believe could have a deeper side to them; people like Brenda Blair, who was as shallow, cold, and empty-headed as they came. But such people were the exception, not the rule.
"I agree," he replied. "That's why it's so interesting. It makes you look at people in a different way and wonder what's beneath the surface.

They continued walking until they reached the entrance hall. She smiled as the warmth of the hall surrounded her. She turned toward Xavier and smiled, glad that she had "run into" him today outside. she always liked meeting new people.
"Well I'll have to borrow that from you sometime," Sheena said sincerly. It didn't sound like a book she would have seen in the school library.

Xavier fought back a smirk. There were some other theories in the book that were not really the kind of thing you could discuss in polite society. And although he was a Slytherin, he was also a Scotts, and he was always polite at the very least. Timmy might not have had a problem blurting out whatever he was thinking, but Xavier never did. There were just some things that weren’t polite to discuss.
“There are some more controversial theories in here, too,” he replied. “I don’t really agree with most of those. They’re interesting to read about, but I think most of them are off-base. They’re not really… Well, let’s just say that I think Mr. Freud might be more guilty of the theories he describes than the average person really is.”

Sheena nodded in understanding. They continued walking into the castle, Sheena was unusually quiet, but it wasn't uncomfortable. She and Xavier were getting along just fine.
"So what else do you read?" Sheena asked curiously.
(soo sorry its short)

Xavier shrugged. "I like to read all kinds of things," he said. "Mostly non-fiction, though. I'm not really into fiction. I like facts and theories... things that get my mind working. I guess that sounds weird. But I like to learn. And not just what Hogwarts teaches us. Muggle books are very interesting. I think they have a different insight into the world, because they don't have magic to make everything easy for them. Of course, a lot of their theories are proven totally wrong by the very existence of magic. Muggles have a science called physics... and according to that, magic shouldn't be possible, but it is."
He usually didn't care what people thought of him, but for some reason, he was curious about her. Did she think he was weird? A lot of members of his own house thought he was... but he didn't care about them. He liked Sheena, and he hoped that she wasn't put off by his odd taste in reading materials.
