When Ted finally left St Mungos to go home, it was pretty late, and he knew that Andromeda would be worried. He'd have to explain everything, and he'd find a way to make it up to her for making her worry.
That, or he'd just quietly face her yelling at him for going with Riley to take down Blake Malfoy, since he assumed there might be quite a bit of yelling.
It was for that reason that he bought a small boquet of flowers at the hospital gift shop, and had them in front of him when he entered their- her- apartment.
"Andi, love?"
He was cleaned up, since he knew seeing him covered in blood would really panic her, especially with the pregnancy and everything. Really, all he wanted to do right now was make love to her and hold her and promise her that he would never leave her.

Andi was getting worried. She had fixed dinner for them hours ago, and still Ted was not home. And she hadn't heard a word from him. With Riley already missing, Andi was practically frantic with worry. She was in the kitchen, cleaning up the uneaten meal, but she was talking to herself, or more specifically, to Agamemnon.
"I don't understand it," she told the cat, who was boredly bathing himself in the middle of the kitchen floor. "Surely he would have send a Patronus or an owl if he was going to be late, right? Maybe I should go over to the Ministry and see if he's still there. Or maybe Veronica or Arthur knows where he is. Oh, what should I doo? It's not like him to be late like this and what if something happened and no one bothered to tell me..."
She was so busy with her monologue that she didn't hear right away why Ted callled out her name.

Ted found her in the kitchen, and he stopped in his tracks, just watching her for a moment, his arms folding across his chest.
"Oh, God," he said, it briefly coming to mind that his mum would say something about using the Lord's name. Catholics... what could you do?
"I waited too long to marry you," he said, speaking a little louder than normal to catch her attention. "You've already become a crazy cat lady."
He was trying to joke with her for a couple of reasons. The first was so that she wouldn't be angry when she finally saw him there, and the second was because he knew she was worried. He wanted to put her fears to rest right away.

At the sound of his voice, Andi turned and saw him standing there. Ignoring the fact that her hands were covered in soapy water, she ran over to him and threw her arms around him.
"Ted!" she gasped. "Where have you been? I was so worried! You should have sent me an owl if you were going to be late. I had dinner ready.... I wrapped it up for you, but still... What happened?"
He had a small cut on his cheek and she touched her fingers to it, frowning.

Ted surpressed a little groan when she threw her arms around him. Must have been an ache that he didn't know he had. Admittedly, the whole night had been focused on other people. First Riley, then Hayden, then Roland.
"I know I should have," he said gently, putting his own arms around her. "And I'm really sorry that I didn't. Something came up a little unexpectedly. I'm sorry I missed dinner with you, though."
He pulled back and touched her cheek, sighing. His usual smile was gone, replaced by a nearly unreadable frown, though he had no doubt Andi would know what it meant. It meant that he was sorry, and worried about something. "I love you."

Well, if he meant to make her feel better, that sudden frown didn't really help. She knew that frown, and it made the bottom drop out of her stomach. He was home, and he was safe, but she couldn't help it... She was worried, and she clung to him a little more tightly. "I love you, too," she said softly as she searched his eyes for some sort of clue to what was going on.
"Please tell me... what happened? What's wrong? You're worrying me."

As usual, Ted could think of several ways of handling this. Humor was the first to come to mind, always, but he didn't think she would appreciate the humor right at this instant. The best course of action was to give her the good news first, and then let her berate him for putting himself in danger.
"Nothing's wrong, Andromeda, and everyone's fine. Roland's alive."
Okay, so maybe dropping it on her like that wasn't the best course of action, but he was tired still. "Roland came back tonight, and I was there."

Andi blinked at him for a moment, certain she hadn't heard him right. Roland was dead; they had gone to his funeral. "Wh-what?" she said. Then she burst out laughing.
"I must really be losing it... talking to the cat too long or something. I could have sworn I just heard you say that Roland was alive. That.... that's not possible, right?"

"Well, I do think you shouldn't be having conversations with the cat, but... no, you heard me correctly. Roland's alive. His killers are dead. And you and Riley have something pretty big in common. Come on, I'll tell you the whole story."
He lead her to the couch and made her sit down beside him before he began to explain the entire night. Andi knew that he felt protective of and responsible for Riley ever since that attack in the Ministry, and so when she asked for help, he'd said yes right away. He went through the attack, Roland's return, the hour or two he spent at the hospital with them, and Riley's pregnancy.
He gauged her reactions as he told the story, and he so badly wanted to kiss her. Was it an inappropriate reaction?
"Are you okay?"

It was an awful lot to take in all at once. Roland was alive, he and Riley were somehow a couple, Riley was pregnant... and on top of all that, there had been a battle, and Ted had been in danger...
So naturally, her first response was to throw her arms around him and pull him close to her. "You're not hurt, right?" she said. "This was dangerous... anything could have happened. And I was so worried...."

"I know you were," Ted said softly, not discounting her worries at all. He put his arms around her gently, just holding her, and for the first time realizing that he could have torn away from her tonight. He knew he wasn't always the most careful with things, but he had a wife and an unborn child now... he needed to be careful and be around to protect them. He needed to grow up, a little, in his eyes.
"I'm okay, I promise," he told her. As it was, Roland and Riley had gotten the worst of it. He and Hayden just had minor battle scars. "Everything's okay. I'm not leaving you on your own so you can go find some slightly less handsome man to marry instead."
He pulled away and grinned at her, brushing his hands over her hair. "I'm sorry I missed dinner."

Dinner was the last thing on her mind. The important thing was that he was here and he was safe and unharmed. "Oh, don't even worry about that," she said, waving her hand dismissively. "I can warm it up for you, if you're hungry. I saved leftovers."
But she made no move to do so. Instead, she pressed closer to him, leaning up on her toes to press her lips against his in a deep, desperate kiss. "Or we could move straight to dessert...."

Ted wasn't exactly hungry, to be honest. The battle and everything that had happened had all but destroyed his appetite. He just didn't have the heart to tell her no if she really wanted him to eat.
But it seemed Andromeda had other ideas, and Ted smiled into her kiss. "You're reading my mind," he teased her, easing his arms around her to hold her close to his own body. Merlin, there was nothing like a little bit of danger to heat things up.
Ignoring the ache in his ribs, he lifted her off her feet, pressing his lips to hers again. "You forgive me, right?"

She wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing herself tightly against him while they kissed. Of course she forgave him. How could she not, when he kissed her like that?
"There's nothing to forgive," she assured him. "I'm just glad you're home and you're safe. I don't know what I'd do if I lost you. Please promise me you'll be more careful. Our baby needs two parents, you know."
She didn't need to go on about how terrified she had been when he hadn't come home, or how she had come close to owling Angelique to ask what was going on. Now, as it turned out, it was a lucky thing that she hadn't.

Ted took a breath when she mentioned the baby, and it struck him, perhaps a little more solidly, what was happening to them. It was a miracle, and just the thought of a child growing inside his extraordinary wife was enough to bring him to his knees. He couldn't help that his hand moved to her stomach, even if there was no evidence yet, and that his eyes followed.
He knew he needed to be more careful, that he had two more people depending on him now, and he couldn't leave them.
His eyes made their way back to hers, and he sighed again before following his urge to kiss her soundly. "Andromeda, I swear, whatever happens, I will always come home to you. Always."

"I intend to hold you to that promise," Andi said, clinging to him for an extra moment. Believing that Roland was dead had been very hard for her, because it made her think again about the dangerous state of the world around them. If someone like Roland could be killed in battle and leave behind a romance unfulfilled, it could happen to anyone. She didn't know what she'd do if she lost Ted now, after fighting so hard to be with him.
So now that she knew Roland was alive, it filled her with hope again. Somehow, it was all going to be OK now. She felt sure of it.
"It's odd, though..." Andi mused, looking up at Ted suddenly. As she thought about Roland and Riley and the whole situation, a strange thought occurred to her. "You know, if Riley's pregnant, it probably happened right around the same time I got pregnant. I didn't realize they were already at that point before New Year's, but I guess they were, huh?"

Ted shrugged, looking at Andi. "I don't know. I hadn't really paid much attention to them at that point." Ted wasn't much for office gossip, and he'd been a little wrapped up in Andi around that time, anyway. "But I know that Roland was head over heels for her since the very beginning... I told you about the time we all went out for drinks. And Riley was torn up when we thought he died... it makes sense that they were a couple by then."
Did it matter, anyway? Andi wasn't the first to raise this suspiscion, but Ted didn't see why anyone should care. They were obviously happy and in love, and anything past that, anything about what really went down, was between the two of them, Angelique, and Vincent.
"Maybe you and Riley should spend some time together, though. You know, she might understand what you're going through a little easier than I do."

Andi shrugged. There still seemed to be something off with the timing, in her mind, because the time Ted had mentioned going out for drinks with Roland had been only a few days before New Year's. But she supposed such things could happen rather quickly, and ultimately, it really wasn't her business, anyway. All that really mattered was that everyone was OK and happy and that Ted was here with her.
"That sounds like a good idea," she replied, smiling. "I'll have to ask her when I see her next."
Kissing him again, she gave him a teasing smile. "I'm suddenly feeling really tired... maybe we should go lie down..."
