Meghan had a day off from working in the Quidditch shop with her boyfriend, Jasper. And though she usually spent that day off at the shop, bugging Jasper when he wasn't too busy, she knew that she had some things to do today. So after groceries and a quick trip to the apothecary, Maghan found herself in Hogsmeade at the Public Library.
She much perfered books over Television, convinced that it stimulated the brain better. She was usually at the pace of a book a week, but working at the shop and dating Jasper had taken up a lot of her time lately. But now she had a day off, and she was determined to read novels from Jane austen, who was her favorite novelist.
She found the book, it was on the top shelf and she couldn't reach. Of course, she could have summoned it down, but the magical option hardly ever occured to Meghan right away. She stretched up, trying to get the book, but she was short, and therefore, not close.
"Excuse me," she said to another person walking by. "Could you help me?"

Maggie was in the library, preparing for her next story hour. True, story hour wasn't until tomorrow, but she liked to pick out a good book and read it ahead of time so that she was less likely to stumble over her words. She already had three possible choices picked out, and was about to go over to one of the cushy chairs in the back to look them over when she heard a voice addressing her.
She turned to see a young girl, probably not much younger than herself, but very short, reaching for a book on one of the higher shelves.
Maggie, of course, was rather tall for a girl, and she usually wore heels that boosted her up an extra two inches. "Sure, I think I can reach it," she replied. She walked over to the shelf. "Which book did you need?"

Meghan smiled at the girl and lowered down off her heels. "Sence and Sensibility," Meghan said. "By Jane Austen, It's just up so high..." She pointed up. Silently, Meghan cursed her shortness. She was 5 foot 4, a little below a girl's average height. At Hogwarts, it had been to her advantage, she was a quick little chaser, no bludger or opposing teammates could get her. Now that she wasn't playing though, Meghan often got lost in a crowd.

Maggie was 5'10" in heels, with long legs and arms, so reaching up to get a book was easy enough for her. She stretched her arm up and grabbed the edge of the book with the tips of her fingers. She slid it forward, pulling it close to her, where she was able to get a grip on the book and pull it down.
"Here you go," she said. "Are you a big Jane Austen fan, then?"

"Thank you so much!" Meghan said. "And yeah, I am." She was often found reading Jane Austen's novels at school instead of studying or practicing. "I swore I fell in love with Henry Tilney when I was 16." Course, Jasper, who at that time was her boyfriend, proceeded to be very jealous and searched the school for the Tilny kid. That only lasted a day though, before he came back saying that he'd just wait to run into him.
"Do you read her novels?" Meghan asked.

Maggie shrugged. "I've read her books. I like her tone and style, but it gets sort of silly after a while, all these women spending all their time searching for a husband. I suppose it's just because there wasn't much else for women to do back then, but still, it bothers me, you know? I mean, women don't need to get married to be happy."
Realizing that she had gone off on a bit of a rant, Maggie smiled sheepishly. "Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the books really. Although, didn't you think Edward Ferrars was kind of a jerk? He made a promise to Lucy, then led Elinor on. And I never did understand how Lucy came to marry the brother instead... that just seemed a little convenient."

"I know right?" Meghan agreed. "I realy didn't like in Northanger Abbey, when Thrope told Catherine that the Tilney's ditched her, just so she would go with him. And then catherine sees then and Thrope doesn't stop for her." Meghan shook her head. "Men can be such jerks like that sometimes," she said with a sigh. Jane Austeen kinew whats up.
"I'm Meghan," she said, offering her free hand.

"I agree," she said. "And in Emma, I always thought Mr. Knightly was kind of a pompous jerk. Of course, Emma was an idiot, so I guess they were made for each other."
She shook her head and let out a laugh. She could honestly go on like this forever, but she held back. It was always a little too easy for her to criticize men, even fictional ones.
"Nice to meet you, Meghan," she said. "My name's Meagan, too, actually... but I go by Maggie."

"Good name!" Meghan laughed. She never really met people with the same name as her.
"No, I never liked Emma either, her personality bugged me a little," She smiled. She loved the Jane Austen novels. Actually, she loved reading in general. She could talk about books for hours if need be.
"So what are you doing here? Looking for something in particular?" Meghan asked.

"I'm glad you agree about Emma," Maggie said with a grin. "My favorite was always Pride and Prejudice. I loved when Elizabeth told off Mr. Darcy... and even though no real guy would totally change just because a girl told him off... I love the idea that she kind of tamed him, you know? Real guys... just aren't like that."
She gave a slight sigh as she looked at Meghan. After the disaster of her night at the Three Broomsticks, it really was nice to see a friendly face.
"No, actually, I help out around here. Just on a volunteer basis. I help run a little program for the kids."

Sometimes, Maghan felt like she did just that with Jasper. She told him off for not letting her get close, for pushing her away, and then all of the sudden, he wan't to try their relationship agian.
"that's really cool," Meghan said honestly. She volunteered one summer durning school at the library, and she had really enjoyed it. She never got an oppertunity because she had suddenly gotten really bus with life, but she was glad that there was a program for kids now.

"I had to figure out something to do with myself," Maggie said. "I used to teach a Dark Arts Defense class at Beauxbatons, but I got fired for arguing with a member of the board of directors and the headmistress. I still think I was right... you can just go cutting important programs for the kids. They come to rely on things, and you can't just take them away, you know?"
She sighed, shaking her head. She could honestly talk about the injustices in the world for days. If she had lived in America and hadn't been a witch, she surely would have been one of those hippies, staging protests and burning her bras. But she was starting to learn that not everyone was as passionate about things as she was, and that sometimes she scared people away.
"Anyway, I had hoped to find a teaching job here, but there aren't any openings at Hogwarts... so for now, this is what I'm doing. It doesn't pay much, but it keeps me out of trouble."
