Hayden was prepared to do whatever he had to do to protect Riley. He wasn't going to fail Roland by letting something happen to Riley. His mind was concentrated on the task at hand but when that jet of light came from another direction, Hayden immediately knew that it wasn't him nor Ted that fired that. He looked in the direction Riley did. The name she said didn't even register with him because he knew that voice too well himself.
His stoney, determined look faded quickly seeing his best friend and cousin standing there. Part of him wanted to be mad, part of him thinking that his mind was just playing tricks on him. Hayden wanted to go up to Roland and touch him, just to make sure his hand didn't go through him or he just disappeared.
"Roland," Hayden said loudly, partially to make sure he wasn't just dreaming.

Ted was ready to fire a curse at Blake. Watching this now, he didn't know how Riley was going to survive the night. Maybe she had known all along that she wouldn't make it out alive. Maybe that was the point. But he wasn't going to let her die.
When another curse was fired from off to the side, Ted spun immediately. Had Blake brought back-up? Were they hiding in the-
"Roland?" What the hell? His eyes flashed to Riley, and then to Hayden. They were seeing this too, right? "Where the hell have you been?" The question was angry, but he didn't dwell on it long enough. If Blake was smart, he would take their reactions as time to fire another curse, and he reached out and pulled Riley back. They had a fight to win here... he could punch Roland out later.

There weren't many things that could take Blake by surprise. But this was one thing that did it. He was rendered speechless for a moment, staring wide-eyed at Roland as if seeing a ghost. He wasn't even entirely sure that he wasn't.
Shaking his head, the familiar smirk reappeared on Blake's face. "Well, isn't this nauseating?" he said. "Don't tell me your angry spirit has come back from beyond to defend the woman you love. Because if that's the case, I think I'm going to throw up."

Roland shook his head and stepped further into the light, so that he was only a few feet away from everyone else. Not wanting to take his eyes off of Blake for very long, he cast a quick glance at Hayden, then Ted, and finally Riley. "Hey, guys. Miss me?"
He took a breath and focused his attention on Blake. "As amusing as it would be to defeat you just by making you violently ill, I assure you, that isn't the case. I'm not a ghost, and I'm not an avenging angel or anything like that. I'm alive, and we're going to finish this once and for all."

Blake's eyes flared dangerously as realization struck him. He'd been tricked. In that moment, he didn't care how or why or where Roland had been all this time. All he knew was that it had been a trick, and he was furious.
"I should have known that explosion was too convenient, especially when the only body they found was Alec's. I just never thought you'd do this to your poor family. It's just too bad they'll never know about it. Avada Kedavra!"
Aiming his wand at Roland, he fired the curse right at him.

Roland dodged the killing curse, ducking down while the curse struck the wall of one of the warehouses. Straightening up again, he dusted himself off and held out his wand. "Ted, Hayden, please take Riley and get back. I don't want any of you getting hurt. This is between me and my uncle."
He took a breath, giving Riley a quick glance. He'd never admit it, but he was scared. His uncle had nearly killed him the first time, and there was still the chance that he would succeed this time. Now that the surprise factor was past, he fully expected his uncle to fight just as dirty as ever. But he didn't intend to go down easily this time.

Ted hesitated. They couldn't let Roland fight Blake on his own. But he agreed that they needed to get Riley out of here. He knew from the start that Riley wasn't in a good place to fight right now.
He grabbed her arm. "Hayden, stay with Roland," he said, knowing that they shouldn't leave Roland alone. He would get Riley somewhere safe, no matter how hard she fought him, and then he would come back to help this fight. As predicted, Riley pulled against him. She was probably arguing, but he wasn't listening.
"Riley, stop!" He hissed.

Riley had met Roland's eyes, briefly. There was no way she was going to leave him. He almost died last time they were separated. "No," she told Ted. "I'm not leaving him!"
How could Roland have even thought she would leave? She would curse Ted if she had to. She couldn't leave him. "Please don't take me away," she begged, quietly because she couldn't distract Roland. Not again. But she couldn't leave him.

Hayden didn't know if he wanted to punch the mess out of Roland or hug him but at this moment it didn't matter. "Riley, please just go," he said. "We'll meet you in a few, promise." His surprise of Roland being there was wearing off for the moment. They had to make sure Riley was safe, and Hayden trusted Ted to do that.
"I'm not letting you fight alone this time, we're not losing you again," he said glancing to Roland then back to Blake. This fight had to be finished.

Roland sighed, seeing Hayden still standing there while Riley struggled against Ted. He'd expected this, of course, but it didn't change anything. He needed them to get back, in case Blake decided to use them to get to him. Blake knew his weakness, and Roland could not allow him to take advantage of it.
"Please, Riley. Let me handle this, OK? I'll feel better if I know you're safe. If I'm worried about you, I'll be distracted, and I can't be distracted."

Ted glanced at Hayden, but then quickly glanced at Roland again. He understood. If the roles were reversed, and it was Andromeda here, he would never be able to fight while he was worried about her. And if he didn't already know, it wouldn't take Blake long to figure out that all he had to do to unravel Roland's resolve would be to hurt Riley.
He wrapped his arms around her and nodded once to Roland. He was glad Hayden was staying to help, but he was getting Riley out of here. He apparated with her, a loud POP signaling their exit. He wouldn't go far. He just needed Blake to think they were gone. He was hiding with Riley, but staying close enough that he could hear what was going on. He cast a one way silencing barrier around them so that if Riley screamed, they wouldn't be heard. "I'm sorry," he told her.

"No!" Riley said. She wasn't leaving him. She felt Ted's arms around her then, and she nearly cried. She couldn't leave him and risk losing him.
Riley fought against Ted, but she wasn't strong enough to get away from him. Deep down, she knew she wasn't strong enough to fight Blake, either, even as back up for Roland. But she couldn't stay here and do nothing while he was fighting Blake... and Blake was a better fighter than either of them. She stopped fighting Ted, unable to get away from him, and just sank back against him.
And they were gone. Realizing she could still hear what was happening, she turned a glare on him.
"If he gets hurt, I'll never forgive you for this."
Ted didn't answer her.

Hayden wasn't leaving, but at least Riley was safe with Ted. Roland let out a sigh of relief and turned his attention to Blake. "OK," he said. "Now it's just us. Last time, I'll admit you got the best of me. It won't happen again."
As if to prove his point, Roland squared his shoulders and faced his uncle. His eyes locked onto the older man's, holding his gaze defiantly as he fired a trio of electric shocks at Blake.

Blake rolled his eyes as Ted left with Riley. Just for effect, he fired a spell at the spot where Riley had been standing only moments before. "That's the problem with all you Ferreras. You're all so damn noble. It's disgusting, really."
He, for one, didn't care if Hayden stayed or not. He had no problem with killing both of his nephews, and it would be easier now that Riley and the other one were gone. Of course, he'd have to seek them out later, but he wasn't worried.
Pointing his wand at Roland, he shouted, "Incendio!"

After having fought him the last time, Roland was getting rather used to Blake's methods. He would try to wear him down, to weaken him, then take advantage of that weakness. Roland's job here was not to let him do that. He was mildly uneasy about what was about to happen, but he wouldn't let it show. First, there was always the chance that Blake might get the upper hand again, and he wouldn't be able to get out of it this time. And although Roland was determined to survive without trickery this time, he knew that he was in the fight for his life. One person was not going to walk out of here this time. Roland had to make sure that person was Blake.
Pointing his wand at the flames that were racing toward him, he called out, "Aguamenti!"
A jet of water collided with the flames in midair, putting them out and leaving little more than a few puffs of smoke in the air. "You're going to have to do better than that," he said as he fired a few shocks at Blake.

"Oh, don't worry, I'm just getting warmed up," Blake replied, that obnoxious smirk ever present on his face. He easily dodged two of three of the shocks, the third one just barely striking him on the back of his hand.
Shaking it off, he aimed his wand at Roland and lazily fired off a trip jinx and a disarming charm. "I have to say," he said almost conversationally, "you really did have me fooled. I was sure you were dead. Where've you been hiding all this time? I assume your family didn't know you were alive, but I have to say, your little girlfriend didn't really look all that surprised to see you."

Roland dodged the disarming charm, but the trip jinx hit him, and he hit the ground. No matter... as long as he still held onto his wand, he was fine.
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the bad guy who's supposed to tell the hero all about his evil genius plan, not the other way around?" Roland replied. "I'm not about to sit here and tell you where I've been and who knew that I was alive. But I do want to thank you for playing into our little trick and taking care of Lyle Inophen for us."
He was standing up now, and he fired a blasting curse at Blake that would knock him backwards.

Blake put up a shield charm, blocking the blasting curse. "Inophen was not a team player. Neither was that idiot Alec, come to think of it. Jordan was the best follower... loyal to a fault. Too bad he was stupid enough to get himself killed in Hogsmeade. How is it you didn't get in trouble for that? I thought you Aurors were trained to capture, not kill."
Pointing his wand above Roland's shoulder, he said, "Diffindo!"

The spell had been aimed at the branch of the tree that had earlier been struck by the killing curse, and it severed the limb, bringing it crashing down at Roland. He was just barely able to put up a shield charm, and the branch bounced off the shield and hit the ground at Roland's feet.
"You know what?" Roland said. "I'm really not in the mood for chitchat. The more I talk to you, the less I like you. Expelliarmus!"

Blake gave a snort. "Like I care," he replied. "I'm perfectly happy to escalate things if you're in a hurry to die."
The disarming charm glanced off Blake's hand, and his wand flew from his grasp. He let out a curse and quickly began chasing after the wand, which had rolled under a stack of empty crates.
