Brook raised a brow at the changing staircase. How on earth was that thing supposed to make sense?
Now that she was safely ensconced in the Gryffindor Common room, she was bored beyond belief, but class didn't start until tomorrow for her, and she didn't know her way around nearly well enough to venture out on her own.
Grayson said that he'd be sure to have someone help show her around, and would talk to Dumbledore personally about that.
She had rebuffed the assitance insisting that she could find her way around and would simply do it herself. His reply had been that he was well aware she could go off exploring and getting into all sorts of mischeif while he wasn't there to keep an eye on her, and he preferred instead to have someone take her around instead. Her response was to glare and hit him good naturedly.
Still it was true, she wouldn't have minded the opportunity to explore such a huge place on her own, but now she was waiting for her "tourguide" to show her around, and it would have been rude to leave without whoever the poor unsuspecting victim was to be.
Drumming her fingers on a nearby table as she sat on the couch she waited for anyone to even come into the common room.

Connor had just come from Dumbledore's office, and he was not pleased about the prospect of having to play tourguide to some soppy new kid. The only thing that remotely brightened the job was that it was a girl, apparently close to his age.
Still, why wouldn't he pick another girl to show her around? Or if he wanted a boy, he was sure there were more respectable boys to show her around. Whatever. He'd give her a tour of the place, hit the major classrooms, and unless she made an impression, she could figure the rest out on her own.
He walked into the near empty common room and searched out the face he didn't recognize. A redhead... nice...
Confidently, and perhaps cockily, he walked up to her. "You must be Brooklyn."

"Connor?" she asked not letting his pretty boy looks sway her too much. Although truth be told she was rather happy she waited for his "guiding".
"Yes I'm Brooklyn." Uncrossing her legs she stood and faced him waiting for him to reach her. For all her appearances she seemed like a very well and composed young lady...not like a redhead at all. "It's lovely to meet you." she said extending her hand for a greeting.

"Yeah, I'm Connor," the boy said, his confident smirk in place. He had a thing for redheads.
He continued towards her, and by the time he stood in front of her, she was sitting up straighter and extending her hand. He took it in a firm handshake, but he didn't crush her fingers. And he wasn't going to kiss her hand or anything like that. It was too cliche and girls only rolled their eyes at that anymore.
"And it's my pleasure to meet you," he returned, and stepped back, holding his arms out to his side. "Welcome to Hogwarts. What do you think so far?"

"The words oppressive splendor come to mind." she said hiding the smirk that itched to match his. She glanced around the massive room, had already seen the large hallways and ancient history seemed to breathe within the walls, still she almost always had the feeling that somebody was watching her. Then again she had always felt choked by rules and regulations, which made her and Grayson an ironic pair.
"But all in all, it's not a total loss." she teased.

"Excessive is the word that comes to my mind, and I've been here a while," Connor said with a little smile. The castle never really seemed to get old. There was enough that changed... teachers, staircases, art work. Really, it kept things interesting.
He gave her a solid once over and finally met her eyes again. "It manages to keep surprising me," he said, and it was more a compliment to her than a comment about the castle.
He scratched the back of his neck. "So, ready for that tour?"

His once over was apparent, and bold kinda like he was she imagined. Hers was sutble and hidden beneath her russet lashes. "Yes thank you." she said with a self contained smile.
Although inwardly she was wondering why Dumbledore sent this particular Gryffindor to show her around. He was obviously good looking, and most girls would probably be twittering and struck dumb, it was a sincere effort she was making not to be one of those girls. Finally she asked, "Do you do this sort of thing often?"

Connor actually laughed at that question. "Merlin, no, I don't. Not to try to scare you off or anything, but I have no idea why Dumbledore chose me to show you around."
He'd thought it before, but there were a thousand other people that Dumbledore could have chosen. "Anyway, I'm not too worried about it. He always has his reasons when it comes down to it. You learn to trust him." Actually, even given his propensity to get into trouble and blatantly ignore any rule placed before him, even he rather liked the Headmaster.

Trust an authority figure? What a unique concept, except she did trust Grayson that much was true, but almost anyone else...
Still she smiled, " So I've a novice tour guide on my hands." she teased, " I'll keep that in mind." she said about trusting the headmaster. This tour would definitely be an indication of the man's insight. She wondered briefly why Dumbledore chose Connor in the first place.
"You know one thing I would love to see are the kitchens...I haven't eaten since last night...moving you know."

"Yeah, so go easy on me," Connor said, winking at her. "Though, truthfully, you're likely to get a better tour out of me than anyone else. I'll show you all the fun places and the secret passageways. You could have gotten a Prefect who wouldn't have shown you how to have any fun at all." His grin was charming and boyish, but there was a wolfish glint in his eyes, too.
"We'll go ahead and stop by the kitchens first then. They're on the ground floor anyway, so we may as well start there." He held his hand out to the side, gesturing to the exit to the common room. "After you."

"Oh well then I'm a lucky girl indeed." she said sincerely, since she would be very happy to learn of all the hidden passage ways within the old tomb. In that respect she was very much like her parents, curious, and despite curiosity killing the cat, she couldn't stop what was in her blood.
"Thank you." she replied when he gestured for her to go first as a gentleman. She was still feeling the new place out, Connor himself wasn't too much of an enigma, he could be she imagined if she were sincerely interested, but she knew boys like Connor were dangerous indeed, and it was always better to play the game with someone you could control.

"You're very fortunate, yes," Connor told her, laughing slightly. At least she wasn't prissy and she was easy to get along with. Maybe she'd be easy in other ways, too. He could wait to find out.
He walked with her out in the hall, and then put a hand on her back to guide her towards a different staircase. "This is actually the quickest way to get down. It moves... our staircases move, you get used to them. Anyway, this one will drop you off right at the staircase on the fourth floor, and it's smooth sailing from there. We'll take each floor on the way back up, though," he promised her.

Brooklyn liked to tease as much as the next girl did, she liked flirting, really enjoyed it even but she knew her game very well. Someone as handsome as Connor in all likelihood had girls falling out of trees to be with him, and she wasn't the kind to fawn. There were plenty of good looking guys out there, and perhaps one of them was for her, someday she'd find out, for the time being she was content without taking romance so seriously.
However despite all these resolutions and beliefs, when he placed his hand on the small of her back, something electrifying happened. The hairs on her neck and arms rose, giving her slight goosebumps. Rationally she attributed this phenomenon to some sort of draft, although perhaps something irrational was telling her that the boy guiding her was beyond a common heart throb.
Because of that spark of irrationality her lowered eyes glanced casually back acknowledging his touch and hesitating only a moment before she nodded accepting his touch and his guidance without remark, then commented on his words as if nothing altering had happened at all, "That could be very confusing."
Then it happened just as he said it would, the staircase shifted and she lost her balance quickly grabbing at air to prevent falling and inadvertantly reaching out holding on to him. He couldn't have planned it better to get her to fall into his arms.

"Oi! Doyle! Where have you been?" she called out to her friend who was currently mid embrace with an unknown redhead. That was strange, Rose knew everyone at the school. She took it upon herself to learn the names and faces of all her fellow classmates, so this must have been on eof the new transfers, they were getting a lot of those these days.
She had made plans with Connor and Gwen earlier and then Connor had been called away and didn't return. Rose took it upon herself to find him, but didn't expect to find him in the arms of another girl...well actually that wouldn't be far off the mark, but he wouldn't willy nilly blow off plans with her and Gwen so what was he doing? Hands on her hips she waited less than patiently for an answer.

Connor smirked when she fell into him, having known the staircase well enough to be able to keep his balance. He held her up like any gentleman would do, and was just ready to make a rather suggestive and flirtatious comment when a voice broke the moment.
Rose. Damn her, Connor thought, and he made sure that Brooklyn was steady on her feet before he let go of her.
"Special assignment from Dumbldore," he replied, giving her a barely amused look, but it was soon replaced my a smile and a wink. "You could always join us."

She was just about to accuse him of planning that, or at least she was thinking as much when another voice interupted their "moment". Startled she turned to face the girl.
"Oh..." she flushed but that was the only sign of embarassment or was it embarassment? She wasn't really sure. He straightened her out then let go of her and she shook her head a little.
When he explained their situation Brook smiled, " Hi, I'm Brook...Mr. Doyle's my tourguide." she had an infectious grin as she announced that the stairs were a bit tricky.

Raising a brow knowingly at her friend she refrained from clucking her tongue. Then proceeded to expertly maneuver the staircases to get to where she presumed their destination to be. "Oh I see." she said to Connor before the girl introduced herself.
"It's a pleasure to meet you. My name's Liliana but most people call me by my middle name, Rose." she informed her. She wondered why Dumbledore didn't assign her to this project seeing as how she was responsible for this sort of thing. Still she shrugged then nodded toward Connor responding to his earlier suggestion "Certainly" she smiled almost evily toward her friend, "I'd love to help show our new schoolmate around."
She was teasing Connor and getting him back for forgetting to tell her and Gwen that he'd be busy that night.

(... Whoa. How you doin'?)
Connor rolled his eyes at Rose. He knew she wasn't angry with him, but Merlin knew she'd make him pay anyway. "Rose is a friend of mine from pretty much day one. She's Head Girl, too, so it might help to have her on your side," Connor said with a wink at Brooke.
Glancing at Rose for a second, he asked, "Where's Gwen?" Usually those two (well, all three of them, really) were inseperable, but lately, Gwen had been rather withdrawn. It wasn't like her, and though the bad boy exterior that Connor prided himself on would never admit it, he was worried about her.

Brooklyn watched the interaction between the two to gather more information about their relationship. She wouldn't lie to herself, Connor was adorable, and it would be a shame if he was taken. Still she had no designs on him or anyone else for that matter. Romance would only complicate things in school and she didn't plan on staying long...so perhaps a quick romance wouldn't be remiss. All the same the boy in front of her was still likely taken.
She smiled and then lost her smile when she found out Rose was head girl.
"Wow...congrats." she nodded. Figures of authority automatically didn't click with Brooke, which was too bad she didn't really have anything against the pretty blonde...well other than the fact that she was pretty and blonde... and an authority figure.

Rose shrugged. She too was worried about Gwen, but she knew that Gwen would hate to be worried over, as would Rose. Rose knew little about the details behind Gwen's sudden engagement but what she did know made her beyond furious. She could kill that no good pureblood prick, aka Gwen's father. How archaic, how barbaric!
It was one of those things Rose just simply didn't understand about purebloods, her parents were accountants after all, and her mother was very pro women's rights which her father supported.
Shaking out of her reverie she gave Brook a large smile and graciously said thank you.
"You're in luck that I happened by..." she told Brook giving her a sly smile, "This castle's old as can be but extremely magical throughout, there's almost an infinate ammount of hidden passage ways and secret rooms, but Connor only knows about half of them." she teased then puffed herself up, "As head girl of course I know a lot more."
The entire statement crushing any preconcieved notions Brook might have had about her as head girl.
