(Note: Alison, we were talking about us being friends, so I've decided to just already say we are. And I figure this thread can take place on the same night as the Ministry attack with Geoffrey--you don't know what happened, only that he was acting weird and ignoring you.)
It had been a long, hard week, and Maia was so ready to kick back and have a little fun with her friends. Chase was having poker night with his friends, so it was the perfect opportunity.
She had arranged to meet her friend Alison, along with Chase's sisters Adrienne and McKenna, for dinner and drinks at the Hot Panini. When she got there, she was suprised to see that she wasn't late, despite having been distracted by a nice dress in a store window along the way.
She chose a table near the window and ordered a butterbeer while she waited for the others to arrive.

Alison left the Ministry tired and confused. Geoffrey was acting awfully funny. He just ignored her like she was just some stranger. She could have understood if she was standing there and he just didn't see her but she even spoke to him and he just brushed her off. Her head started to hurt while she tried to figure out if she had done anything wrong. She couldn't come up with anything and she couldn't think of any other reason as to why he was acting that way.
She thought about just going back to her apartment and just taking a nice long hot shower then going to bed but there was the dinner with the girls and she wasn't going to miss it. Maybe being around them would help relieve the confusion for awhile and get her mind off of it, even if it would be for a short time.
Walking into the Hot Panini, her eyes for Maia. She put on a smile and walked toward her. "Maia!"

Maia broke into a smile at the sight of her friend. Despite the differences in their ages, Maia and Alison got along perfectly. In a way, she thought of Alison as another sister, just like Adrienne and McKenna. It had been a while since the two girls had seen each other, and Maia didn't even know anything about what was going on in Alison's life. It was about time to catch up.
"Alison!" she said happily, standing up so that she could throw her arms around her friend. "It's so good to see you! I haven't seen you in ages... you look fantastic. What's been going on in your life?"

Just being hugged by Maia seemed to make her feel a lot better. "It's good to see you too! We can't go so long without seeing each other!" Alison's smile grew. "Oh, a lot has happened." A look of excitement crossed her face. "I um, I'm dating someone now." What happened in the Ministry left her mind for the moment while she caught Maia up. "I met him in the club one night because his friends dared him to ask me to dance. Although that night didn't turn out that well because of some jerk came up and then I left. Geoffrey came to look for me at the Ministry since we both work there. At first, I didn't know how to react and it just went badly. Then after milling around for a couple days, I went to find him and apologized. After that, everything started to go pretty good. But then after that, his best friend's partner died."
Alison paused for a moment. "He asked me out whenever he came over after they got the news of his cousin's death. Things have just been kind of sad though. He's trying to be there for her. I even met her. I like her. She's just in a mess. Then today was just strange. There was something wrong with him. He just ignored me." She frowned. "I haven't figured out why."
She sighed. "Sorry, I didn't mean for all to just spill out at once." She let a smile appear on her face. Alison decided to change the topic. "Well, enough about me. Look at you! You look beautiful! How have things been with you and Chase?"

Maia suppressed a giggle at Alison's torrent of words. What she was saying wasn't really funny, but the way Alison seemed to spit it all out at once was cute. Alison didn't usually say that much at once, unless she had a lot on her mind. And she certainly did now.
"Wow, Ally... you've been busy!" Maia replied, shaking her head. "Chase and I are fine, same as always. Not nearly as interesting as things have been for you. You must tell me more about this guy. What's his name? Is he cute? What does he do? Tell me everything!"

Alison let out a laugh. Part of it was because she just spilled everything at once which she usually didn't have anything to report that had been going on, and the other part was Maia's reaction.
"That's good. I've always loved to see and hear about you two together." She smiled widely.
Now she took the time to blush and a small giggle at her questions. "His name is Geoffrey Montgomery and he works in the Floo Department. He is very cute and funny. Um, he likes to play quidditch with his friends and he is a pretty good cook. He's very sweet and right now he's trying to be there for his best friend who just lost her partner. His best friend's partner was Geoffrey's cousin, and it's just a sad story really."

Maia smiled. "Al, he sounds wonderful. I'm so happy for you, really. Whatever happened today, it probably just had to do with his friend. I wouldn't worry too much, you know? Grief can do terrible things to a person... maybe she had a breakdown. Or maybe he's grieving, too, you know? I mean, if it was his cousin, that's bound to really bring him down. You probably just caught him at a bad time. You should try and see him tomorrow, maybe he'll tell you what happened."

"Yeah. She probably did. I saw her when the three of us went to lunch several days ago. She was trying her best to keep everything together. And I know he's doing the same. He came by my house not to long after it happened. I admire them both really." Alison sighed softly then met Maia's eyes. "I was planning on doing just that."
She gave a smile. "So, tell me Maia, how has work been treating you?"

The door flew open, aided by a chilly gust of wind as Adrienne made her way inside the Hot Panini. She spotted the girls immidiately, but noticed that her sister wasn't there yet. She probably got caught up in a painting somewhere.
"I'm sorry I'm late," she said, sliding into a seat next to Alison. "I was talking with one of the doctors and time sort of escaped me. How are you both?" She'd been talking to Tim, but she didn't see how that was relevant at the moment. Besides, she came in in the middle of a conversation and figured that there was a story she was missing anyway.
She had also just left after the fiasco with the guy under the Imperius. As far as she knew, nothing had been resolved yet.
While she waited to be filled in, she took off her cloak and her scarf, laying them across the back of the seat.

Her sister was correct, McKenna did get caught up in painting. It was one of the few times she was actually painting on the spot rather than drawing the scene and taking it back to her apartment and painting it. The scene was just too perfect for her not to just paint it on the spot.
An older lady walked by and McKenna asked for the time. When the lady responded, McKenna sighed. Being late seemed to be something she was good at. She packed up her things but carried her painting so that it could dry.
Leaving as quick as she could, she rushed toward the Hot Panini. Out of breath she opened the door and it only took a moment to notice Maia. McKenna walked over to the table and took a seat. Letting out a big breath, she smiled at the girls, only to wipe at her face which had paint still on it.
"Hello ladies," she greeted trying to get the paint off her face, "What have I missed?"

Alison let out a small laugh as both girls entered right after each other. Leave it to them to arrive around the same time.
"Hey Adrienne, McKenna." Out of the group, she was the youngest but she never really felt that way. To be honest, she didn't think she could ask for a better group of close friends. After she befriended Maia, becoming friends with Adrienne and McKenna just seemed to fall into place.
"Things are pretty good," she answered. "And you haven't missed too much. How are you two?"

Maia had been about to assure Alison that she really had no interesting work tales to tell, but she was spared the trouble when Adrienne, then McKenna arrived. Although she and Chase were not married, Maia still thought of both girls as her own sisters already. She stood up to hug each of them, then slipped back into her seat.
"Alison was just telling me all about her new boyfriend," she said. "He really sounds like quite a catch. What did you say his name was again? Jeremy?"

Blush rose to Alison's cheeks as Maia brought up the subject. It still felt odd to hear the word boyfriend. She let out another small laugh. She wasn't used to the sudden attention. Usually Alison just listened to the other news between the other three girls.
"Geoffrey," she said shyly.

Adrienne frowned. "Geoffrey?" she asked. It was a common name, right? Still, it just struck her as odd and too highly coincidental.
"Geoffrey Montgomery?" she asked. She could say no, and they would laugh and move on. But on the outside chance that it was the same Geoffrey, she wondered if Allison knew what was going on.
(ridiculously short. Sorry)

At Adrienne's look, Alison's face went from beet red and shy to a little worrisome in a matter of a second. That frown couldn't be good, right? Did she know something about him or didn't really like him?
"Yes. His name is Geoffrey Montgomery." She tried to read her friend's face but to no avail. "Why? What's wrong?"

Adrienne sighed. "Oh, no, nothing's wrong, persay. I mean, he's fine and not hurt."
She rolled her eyes at herself. She wasn't doing a good job of making everything sound okay. "It's just that he was admitted to St Mungo's before I got off work. He was apparently under the Imperius Curse." She wasn't supposed to give out information like that, but this was her friend, and the guy's girlfriend, afterall. "He's fine now, but they're keeping him overnight just for observation."

Maia let out a soft gasp. "The Imperius Curse?" she repeated, reaching across the table to squeeze Alison's hand. "That's terrible... Is everyone OK?"
She knew Adrienne couldn't give out much information, so she didn't ask for details. The unspoken question, of course, was if Chase was OK. Of course, if something had happened to Chase, it surely would have been the first words out of Adrienne's mouth, but she still needed to hear it.

"No, everyone's fine. I didn't mean to scare anyone, I'm sorry. There were a couple of people involved, I guess, Geoffrey, and Auror, and another Ministry employee, and they were all admitted today. They seem pretty shaken up, but otherwise, everyone's okay."
Her eyes flicked to Maia when she said 'everyone,' so that her friend would know she was including Chase in this. Maia should know that Adirenne wouldn't be nearly this calm if something happened to her brother, and that Maia and her sister would be the first two to hear anything.
