Kate should have been more nervous about showing up on the Rossi doorstep and yet all she really felt was a serene acceptance. Or perhaps after the day she had, and the horrors she had witnessed she simply needed family, whatever family she could find. The Rossi's were the closest she'd ever come to having some kind of normal happy relationship.
She closed her eyes and brought her hand up to the door knocking briskly then she turned around almost afraid of what she might face were someone to open the door.

Not that anyone would have turned Kate away. She was Sedona's friend, and that was enough for the males in the household, but she also had her ties with other members of the family.
Normally, Dona would have let someone else get the door, but she happened to be going right by it, anyway when the knock sounded.
Being from the family she was from, she stayed back from the door, using a spell to see who was there. You could never be too cautious. She knew this all too well.
But in the next moment, she threw open the door. "Kate! Where have you been?"

Kate turned at the sound of a very familiar voice and smiled immediately, something fond touched her heart, " Hey runt." she opened her arms for the assured hug that was to follow.
She held on tightly,"Oh a little bit of here and there." she answered belatedly. "How've you been? All grown up I see." she smiled with satisfaction, the last time she had seen Kate the girl had been quite young, now she realized the distance between their ages were quickly closing in on each other.
"Where's the family?"

"All grown up," Sedona replied, taking a look at Kate. "You too, I might add. Look at us... full blown adults now." She wasn't even sure when the last time she had seen Kate was, but it instantly felt like no time had passed at all.
"Well, Teo has his own place now, but I think Patri and Gio are around." She couldn't get used to calling her father by anything English, so he was still Patri to her. Her English wasn't as broken now as it had been when Kate last saw her, but the accent was still heavy.
She leaned forward and hugged her again. "It's good to see you. Come in."

"I should have called first. Sorry about that." she smiled tentatively. She nodded when Sedona mentioned Teo having his own place, for a moment she wondered if he had gotten married, if he had kids. It had indeed been a long time since Kate had seen the Rossi family, but she couldn't have stayed with them even though she wanted to. Even though they were like her own family, even though she loved them all, even though she had been in love with Teo, she simply couldn't stay.
Stepping inside she took her coat off with her gloves and the other things she wore to protect her from the elements"Everyone's doing well?"

Sedona waved off the apology. "You never have to to call to come here. You should know that. Even if it's been a long time."
She closed the door behind Kate, sending Aiden to find at least one of her brothers and her father. They would both be pleased to see Kate, and she smiled that her old friend was here. Time had treated her well, but she wondered if Kate had changed as much as she herself had in those years. She wasn't the timid, scared girl anymore. Or maybe she was and she was just better at faking it now.
"Everyone is doing very well," she replied. "Are you?"

Kate, had hardly changed, she still felt that the world was her responsibility. She was still hard edged, she still didn't trust anyone, and of course the answer to that question would still be, " Yeah, I'm doin okay." she'd never admit otherwise.
Her breathing deepened when she thought about running into the whole family again.

"Good," Sedona replied, leading her old friend into the living room. "Have a seat," she said, then fussed over Kate, asking if she wanted anything to drink or anything like that.
She wanted to ask where Kate had been, where she'd disappeared to for so long, and why she hadn't come to visit before now. Then, part of her didn't really want to know. Kate had been her protector for a period of time when she was kidnapped at a young age, and maybe she still represented the part of Sedona that needed to be protected. In her eyes, that part died a long time ago.
"Gio should be here soon. He's probably out back or something."

Kate's eyes brightened at the mention of a familiar and beloved name. She missed Gio, she missed the whole family and it was only coming back that she realized how much she missed them. She laughed softly, " I'm surprised they let you answer the door by yourself." she teased knowing how protective the family was, she herself was protective as well, in her eyes Sedona, at least a part of her, would always be that little girl Kate needed to protect.
With all the fussing Kate wanted to laugh again but curbed it and assured Sedona that she was fine.

"Yes, that's a new privilege that I had to fight awfully hard for," Sedona replied in a light tone. Her brothers and her father knew that she could take care of herself. She was tough as nails, pretty but venomous when she needed to be. That didn't stop them from being protective. She had just been so young when she was kidnapped. To this day, her father asked her what happened, where she'd gotten the scar... she never talked about it, claiming she couldn't remember. She told Kate she couldn't remember either, but she often suspected that Kate knew better.
"Are you sure? I can have some tea made up pretty quickly. And honestly, where is Gio?"

Gio had been out back messing around, not doing anything special. He was just trying to waste time. His father and Teo seemed to have been doing 'business' things. Gio had yet to really join the 'family business'. Sometimes there were a few things he was let in on, but for the most part, all the work went to Teo. Quite honestly, Gio liked that idea because that meant he could go out and look for some kind of fun.
Hearing his name, Gio almost popped out of nowhere. "Somebody call for me," he asked with a huge grin on his face as he appeared beside Sedona. Gio planted a kiss on his sister's check before grinning again.
He turned to look at the visitor, with his smile still on his face. "Is this who I think it is?"

"Oh my ..Merlin!" she burst slightly seeing Gio, when last she saw him he wasn't nearly so big at all. "What did you do eat a tree?" she asked in reference to how tall he had gotten as well. There was a sparkle in her eye that hadn't been there in a long time, she was relaxing a little being around the only family she had ever known.

"Kate! È buono da vederli!" Gio couldn't help the Italian words that slipped out. "It's good to see you," he translated to English. "I've eaten a couple of trees in fact." He smiled and held his arms out to her.
"And look at you all completely grown up. I almost didn't recognize you, except for the eyes. What brings you here? Are you going to stay for a little while?"

"Always were a charmer." she smiled lazily at his words. That was why she loved Gio so much, he wasn't like his father, or his brother, he was lighter, softer, and he could smile for no reason at all.
Not that she didn't love the head of the Rossi's or Mateo either...merlin at one time she thought she might have even married him... But their world had been too harsh for her, and Kate needed something more. That wasn't to say that they weren't still her family, all of the Rossi clan she was close to.
"For a while..." she replied, at least until she got things together at her new apartment and so forth.

"Some things never change," Gio replied with a laugh. "Although, I'd like to think I'm a better charmer now than I used to be." He gave her a wink.
Gio was glad to have Kate to stop by. He could be more himself and joke around while she was here. Of course he could do that around Sedona, but around his brother and father, he couldn't do it as much. After all, it seemed they were all about business and Gio wasn't ready to just settle down and be a 'business man' like his father and brother.
"Great," he said. "I'm going to look forward to having you around again. I bet Sedona is glad to have another girl around the house."

"Oh yes," she said shaking her head, " And I wonder how often that's got you into trouble." leaning her head back she nodded toward Sedona, " He's probably got all the girls fawning over him now doesn't he?"
It was good to be back, for the first time in a long time she was beginning to loosen up. She felt a little as if she were coming back home.

Sedona laughed and nodded. "Yes, a little girl time will be appreciated. I'm always surrounded by so many boys."
She was teasing her brother, but she had missed her friend greatly. They had both known that Kate wouldn't ever stay around for long, and that was the way of it. But they'd saved each other as little girls. You didn't forget a bond like that.
"Between him and Teo, there's not a girl left in all of England."

"Doesn't surprise me." she laughed then a slightly serious look came into her eye, "How's Teo...?" she asked it was hard not to sound anxious when mentioning him. He was her first love, really her only love. She had relationships over the years but nothing that even came close to what she had with Teo, had she stayed she probably would have married him. Ever since, no one has come close to her heart, perhaps she was still waiting, still she knew it would never work out.

"Teo's good," Sedona said, and looked between Kate and her brother. She shrugged. "There's not much to tell, really. He's still single."
"I'm dying for a cigarette. Would you two mind coming outside and continuing this chat?" She asked, standing up again and heading for her cloak in the hallway where she stashed her package of cigarettes. She would never smoke inside, not so long as she lived with her father. "Do you smoke, Kate? You can have one with me if you do."

"Teo is still single, I'm sure that he'd be happy to see you," Gio said with a smile. Gio wasn't clueless about how Kate had been in love with Teo. Of course he wasn't going to tease Kate about it either.
"I might have to take one of those from you," he said looking to Sedona. Gio didn't really smoke all the time, it was just something occasional. Usually a pack of cigarettes would last him close to three weeks if not four, but he was completely out for the time being.
