Vanessa walked outside and into the courtyard. It was the middle of January and it was cold, but she didn't mind. Snow covered mostly everything and she had to brush it off a bench to avoid getting her bottom wet. She listened to the birds chirp in the morning air and took a deep breath. Hogwarts was so beautiful even in the coldest time of the year. She held her hands tight together and closed her eyes, listening to the soft sounds of the early day.

Roxanna made her way from the Hufflepuff Common Room to enjoy the weather. She was always drawn to the colder weather, ever since she was little. She saw someone sitting, but didn't want to bother her; her eyes were closed, and Roxanna would probably scare her by saying something. She pulled her coat tighter against her as she sat down, and stared up at the sky.

Her eyes flicked open at the sound of footsteps on the snow. She saw a girl with long brunette hair standing in the courtyard. She didn't know her name, but she knew she was a hufflepuff and that she was just about as shy as herself. She got back on her feet and walked at a calm, easy pace to her. "Hello." She said quietly. "I'm Vanessa." She greeted with a smile. She didn't know many people and figured it wouldn't hurt to meet someone new.

Roxanna smiled at the girl. "Hi. I'm Roxanna. It's nice to meet you." Roxanna said, sweetly smiling. The only thing she knew about Vanessa was that she was a Gryffindor, and younger than Roxanna was. She shrugged to herself, thinking it was no big deal. She needed to make friends in other houses, as long as they weren't in Slytherin. "Cold, isn't it?" She asked, trying to make small talk.

Vanessa smiled. "Yeah, but it doesn't bother me so much. I love the cold weather." She said and her smiled widened as it started to snow lightly. "It's so beautiful here in the winter, isn't it?" She added and walked around the fountain structure. It was covered in ice and snow and looked absolutely astonishing.

Roxanna walked quickly to keep up with Vanessa. "I think I might like it better if it were raining," Roxanna said with a laugh, "but the snow does look beautiful." Roxanna looked up at the sky dreamily as a few snowflakes fell onto her cheeks. She brushed them off and looked back to Vanessa. "I also like how quiet it is out here; the best time of the day!" She said.

Vanessa grinned. "Yeah. I love when everyone's cooped up on a day like this. It makes it all the more enjoyable. Like I can actually take in the beauty of the scenery without noisy peers laughing and throwing snowballs." She said and chuckled. She sat on the edge of the stone fountain and stared at the crystalized water. It gleamed and sparkled in the brilliant sunlight and snowflakes danced on its surface, making its shine all the more vibrant.
