Marcello was looking over papers at his desk when his watch started making noise. He had set it so he wouldn't work through lunch, knowing that it made Clarice angry, especially since he was having Ryder come over to discuss work, and Clarice insisted that the boy come early and join them for lunch.
So at one o'clock sharp, he piled his papers up, locked them in a drawer, and left his study, locking the door behind him. He had a feeling the Rossi's were up to something, and Marcello didn't know what, he hoped that Ryder could get some information for him, and thats what they'd be discussing this afternoon.
"Is the boy here yet?" Marcello asked as he entered the kitchen.

Ryder was leaning against a wall, the only one in the kitchen. He had gotten himself a small glass of liquor, and poured an extra for Marcello, just in case. Ryder had brought the wine from his own house, never wanting to disturb Marcello's home life. If he had been in his boss's house at all, Ryder was sure to make it look like he had never been there. There wouldn't be a pillow indentation the shape of any of his features.
He didn't say anything, but instead motioned to the glass to Marcello's right, filled with the Zinfandel.

"Oh, I guess that answers my question," Marcello said. He had assumed it was Clarise who was in the kitchen. "Thank you," he said, taking the drink Ryder had poured him. Usually, Marcello had a thing about pouring his own drinks. He was a mobster after all, he was paranoid at sometimes. But there was something about the boy that Marcello simply knew he could trust.
"Please sit," he gestured to the kitchen chair. "how've you been?"

Ryder was completely loyal to Marcello. He acted completely professional to his boss, knowing that the type of business they were in was sensitive. Ryder had seen a lot of people get taken care of for mere suspicions, and he was certainly proud of his status. There was a reason he kept Tyler away from Mr. Santino. Tyler was trouble.
"Content," was Ryder's answer. "Yourself?"

"I'm well," Marcello said. He sat down across from Ryder and pulled out his wand, summoning the coffee Clarice had made earlier. "And your siblings, they're fine too." Marcello knew everything about everyone he worked with, and he liked to keep up to date. Ryder Lyons was one of the few he kept close when it came to the business, and his loyalty was key.

"Thank you," Ryder nodded, glad that Marcello had checked for him. Ryder wasn't attentive toward his siblings, and usually would only write if Marcello had mentioned something wasn't right for them at Hogwarts. He wouldn't be surprised if Marcello hadn't figured it out, it wasn't hard to see for someone so close to him. But Ryder had never said it outright.
"Anything you need, Mr. Santino?" Ryder asked right off the bat, touching the end of his wand lightly. If so, he would disapparate immediately to get it done. They could talk logisitics late into the night, if Marcello wanted.

"I went recruiting the other day," Marcello said. He saw Ryder lightly touch the end of his wand. "You won't need a wand boy, we're just talking tonight." He folded his hands on the table.
"Anyway, this new kid, Damon. Not a bad kid, he's green. I think a couple days out with you and Declin showing him the ropes, he could be useful." he waited quietly for Ryder's opinion.

Ryder placed his hand back in his cloak pockets gingerly. Recruiting was always tricky business, and Ryder was used to dealing with any outcomes that might not have been pleasant for Marcello. "Damon? I've never heard of him. Anything I should know before I have to do anything with him?"
Ryder hated new recruits. He was suspicious of everyone who hadn't proved themselves loyal. The accidents of new recruits could cost Ryder his life if they weren't prepared. Not one of the recruits had really done anything wrong yet, Marcello was good at making desicions. Ryder just couldn't help but feel that something would go wrong and displease Mr. Santino.
"A mission. Sounds-" Ryder hesitated, trying to find the right word. "interesting."

"He's a rather charming kid, i met him at Stu's," Marcello said. He summoned a couple glasses and a bottle of whisky over to them from the counter.
"He was, rather interesting. Says he's good with numbers and stuff, but i think he'd be useful in getting information. Especially now. I have a feeling Rossi is planning something..." He poured himself a drink and offered the bottle toward Ryder.

"Charming," Ryder sniffed lightly, crossing his arms over his chest. "That's great, I'm sure we'll get along perfectly." He was trying to hide his sarcasm, but it didn't work as well as he had hoped. Even with Marcello's constant reassurances, Ryder would always be the wary right hand. It was part of his job description.
"Well, as a new recruit, he would definately be capable of getting information in the open," Ryder mumbled, before straightening up at the mention of Rossi. "Planning something? What do you believe he has in mind?" Ryder asked before taking the bottle and pouring himself a half glass.

Marcello never drank a drink before he watch someone drink the same drink. So, even though he poured his own, he would wait for Ryder to sip before sipping. It's not that he wanted the boy dead, just the opposite, he liked the kid. But Marcello grew up in the muggle mob, and though wizards could be more creative in killing one another, Marcello never underestimated poisoning.
He chuckled at Ryder's statement. Marcello knew he wasn't too keen on new people. But that was part of Marcello's job. The more people in their family, the more confused law enforcement tend to get.
"I'm not sure, that's why I'm trying to get some information," Marcello said, refering to Rossi. "Maybe I could send you out eventually, see if you can get information out of one of them."

Ryder took a large gulp of his drink, not wincing as the burning after taste hit his throat. He never really knew for certain that Marcello had counted on him for poison tasting, but Ryder felt like it was his duty anyway.
"Eventually?" Ryder pretended to pout slightly before breaking out into a small grin. "How soon can I expect to go out and conquer? Less than a week? It's been a while since I've done anything sneaky, I'm so used to being upfront."
Ryder silently hoped that Marcello didn't want this new kid tagging along.

"That eagerness is going to get you in trouble Boy" Marcello said as he finally took a sip from his drink. That was the thing about Ryder. He could get restless if there wasn't much going on. The Rossi family had been quiet for a while now, and at first it was a blessing. Marcello had more time to spend with the family. But after a while, things just didn't feel right.
"Yea Ryder, sometime this week," Marcello chuckled. "Let me guess, you want to go alone?" He'd never let it happen. Maybe he wouldn't send Damon in with him. But surely Declin would be of some use. He knew Ryder would try and make an interresting case. Marcello wouldn't budge, but he'd let Ryder try.

"I like to think of it as my best trait," Ryder replied. Alertness was a blessing in his eyes, Ryder was not one to sit and wait for something to fall into his lap when it came to his job. "And yes, I would prefer to make this a one- man project."
"I honestly don't think that having someone whose back I'd need to watch and doesn't quite know what they're doing is in your best interest. Especially when you suspect it's something somewhat big," Ryder tried to reason. The mission was in a little less than a week, and Mr. Santino had mentioned sending the new 'charming' guy in a few days. Ryder had a feeling that this would end catastrophically, although most of Ryder's outlooks on strangers were negative. Trust wasn't earned easily.
